Preamplifier: The Onkyo P-3000R is a two-channel pre-amplifier which
handles both analog and digital sources. Add Onkyo's M-500R Stereo Amplifier (580M5000R,
sold separately) for an exceptional HiFi 2ch audio system.
Separate Panel Construction: The P-3000R features separate
aluminum panels for the top, sides, and front to reduce unwanted vibrations
caused by internal resonance. Compared to a one-piece chassis design, this
construction method offers greater rigidity and improved noise reduction.
Separate Digital/Analog Circuitry & Transformers: To prevent
unwanted interference, the P-3000R employs physically separate circuitry for
digital and analog processing. What's more, it also features separate
transformers for digital and analog circuitry. The P-3000R incorporates a
massive toroidal transformer for the analog circuitry that reduces magnetic flux
leakage, improves efficiency, and keeps the power supply stable. For the digital
circuitry, it employs a high-quality EI transformer.
New Circuit Board Construction w/ Internal Struts to Reduce
Vibration: Rather than being directly connected to the chassis base,
the circuit boards inside the P-3000R are cushioned by internal struts and
affixed to the front, side, and rear panels. This method of construction
prevents vibrations from the chassis from adversely affecting the circuit
boards.
Separate TI Burr-Brown DACs for L/R Channels: High-quality TI
Burr-Brown DACs work to optimize analog audio performance. The P-3000R pre-amp
employs dual 32-bit PCM1795 DACs, which support sampling rates of up to 192kHz,
display high resistance to clock jitter, and handle a 123 dB dynamic range.
Although these DACs can process two-channel audio on a single chip, Onkyo
employs separate chips for each stereo channel, to ensure the most accurate
digital-to-analog conversion
DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry):
Since the advent of digital audio, signal-to-noise ratios have improved
dramatically. However, the S/N ratio reflects static noise only, and takes no
account of another type of noise that occurs as the byproduct of sound
reproduction; dynamic noise. To reduce this type of noise, Onkyo has developed
DIDRC technology. Despite being beyond the normal range of human hearing,
frequencies above 100 kHz are susceptible to clock pulse and other forms of
distortion from digital devices. Such distortion in the super-high-frequency
range can generate "beat interference", which in turn affects the character of
the original sound. By improving linearity and reducing distortion in the
super-high frequency range, Onkyo's new DIDRC technology effectively reduces
perceptible noise and delivers clearer, truer audio.
PLL (Phase Locked Loop) Ultra-Low Jitter Technology:
Jitter is an unwanted side-effect of the digital-to-analog conversion process
caused by fluctuations in the time domain of a digital signal. PLL ultra-low
jitter technology reduces jitter by comparing the input and output phases of the
digital signal and creating an accurate clock waveform. This enhances the
precision of digital signal processing and noticeably improves perceived audio
quality.
Controls
Tone Control: The P-3000R pre-amplifier provides Bass
(50Hz), Treble (20kHz), and
Balance control.
Direct Mode: When the Direct mode is activated, the tone controls are
bypassed and the front-panel display is turned off, so you can enjoy a higher
fidelity sound.
Sampling Rate Conversion: You can convert the sampling rate of the
digital audio input signal.
- FS x2: Outputs the input sampling rate by converting it to x2.
- FS x4: Outputs the input sampling rate by converting it to x 4.
- Bypass (default): Outputs the input sampling rate at the original
sampling rate.
Note: If the sampling rate is greater than 192/176.4kHz, the
sampling rate conversion will not be applied.
Remote Control: In addition to its front-panel control, the P-3000R
comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the preamplifier. The
remote is also pre-programmed to operate an Onkyo compact disc player (such as
the
C-700R, sold separately).
LCD: The Onkyo preamplifier features a front-panel LCD which indicates
source and menu status. The LCD offers an adjustable dimmer (Normal, Dim or
Off).
Auto Standby: The preamplifier will automatically enter Standby mode
if there is not operation for 30 minutes with no audio signal input.
Connections
Left & Right Pre-Outs: The Onkyo P-3000R is equipped with two pair
of RCA preamp-outputs (labeled 1 & 2) to connect an external power amplifier.
Use Pre-Outs 1 for normal connection to a single external power amp, or both
Pre-Outs 1 & 2 for a bi-amp connection to two separate external amplifiers.
CD/Line1/Line2 Inputs: The Onkyo P-3000R offers three sets of stereo
RCA inputs labeled CD, Line 1, or Line 2.
Tape Input/Output: The Tape Input/Output consists of stereo RCA inputs
and stereo RCA outputs. These jacks allow you to connect a tape recorder,
CD-burner, or Equalizer.
Balanced XLR AES/EBU Input: This is a professional digital audio
interface. Balanced XLR AES/EBU cables are used for better noise immunity and longer
cable runs. The maximum sampling rate for a 2ch PCM input is 192kHz/24-bit.
Optical Inputs/Output: Optical digital connections allow you to enjoy
2ch PCM digital sound. The maximum sampling rate for 2ch PCM input is
96kHz/24-bit. Two inputs and one output jacks are provided.
Coaxial Inputs: The two coaxial digital inputs allow you to enjoy
2ch PCM digital sound. The maximum sampling rate for a 2ch PCM input is
192kHz/24-bit.
USB Port for PC Audio: Using the USB (type-B) port on the
rear-panel of the P-3000R, you can connect your Windows PC or Mac computer and
play back 192kHz/32-bit HD audio files. Playback of PC audio requires dedicated
software that can be downloaded from
Onkyo's website.
Phono Input: The Onkyo preamplifier is fitted with a Phono
input and ground terminal for connection of a turntable (MM).
Headphone Output: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4"
jack on the front panel, the left & right pre-outs are automatically muted.
Remote Inputs/Outputs: The P-3000R contains RI Control and
12V trigger remote connections.
- RI Remote Control Jack: The 1/8" RI remote control jack
allows you to connect this preamplifier to other compatible Onkyo
components.
- 12 Volt Trigger Output: The 12V trigger output
can be used to turn on a 12V trigger-capable component automatically when it
is selected as the input source.
