Our take on the P.I.E Aux Input Adapter For Chrysler

by Zak Billmeier

Got a portable music player? Then you probably know that a direct connection to your vehicle's radio will give you the best possible sound quality. The Precision Interface Electronics CHRY02-AUX adapter lets you add an auxiliary input to select Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep factory stereos, suitable for connecting a Dock & Play satellite radio, portable music player, or other audio source.

The adapter includes a 13" harness that connects to the 10-pin mini-connector on the back of your factory radio. Warranty: 1 year.

Note: This adapter will not work with factory 6-disc in-dash radios or navigation radios. Any factory satellite radio or CD changer must be disconnected to use this adapter. Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

02 jeep liberty

Written By Alex, CT on Monday, July 09, 2012

i have an 02 jeep liberty and because it has a funny shaped head unit, an aftermarket one with the bracket would look dumb to me. so im glad that i found this adapter. its a bit pricey for what it is, but it works pretty well. i bought this to use with my 80 gig ipod and if you look on amazon you can find an ipod/iphone cable that connects to this, that also has power leads.( PIE RCA-iPD Newer iPod Dock to Audio RCA Adapter Cable). i have it, all you need to do is wire the cable to the power wires on the wire harness and you have power. i used ' Solderless Wire Quick Splice Connectors'. The adapter itself was effortless to install, just has to remove the ashtray, pull off the front bezel thing, and plug into the back of the radio. im a little bummed that it doesnt have ipod controls, but the cable i have is long enough to be ran under the middle console thing and into my cupholder where my ipod stays. easy to reach to change songs. the only bad thing is that there is faint static, but i think its the cable or the music on y ipod. some songs are clear but quiet, and the rest are normal volume but staticy.
Pros:
keep factory looks
Cons:
no ipod controls

Great alternative if you want to keep your factory radio look and cheaper than a new stereo. Streaming music and can hear calls through the speakers. The install took less than 25 minutes. Bought one for my daughters car. Should have done this years ago.

Pros:
Easy install and inexpensive
Cons:

Awesome Product - Easy to Install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to use, easy to install. Took me about 20 minutes during my lunch break. Recommend getting a good (Monster) RCA to 3.5mm cable and you're good to go.
Pros:
Works and is easy to install.
Cons:
Longer cable would make it easier to position.

Can you hear me now?

Installed in a 2004 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my 04 Wrangler. I was a bit skeptical at the beginning since I had already bought a similar device for a Pathfinder I owned and it turned out to be a flop. Installation took me about 15 min and that's because of that pesky 10mm nut at the back of the radio. The device has a rather short cable that connects to the OEM radio, so make sure to pick a solid fixed surface to attach it since it will be out of reach (unless you want to have a rattling sound coming from the dash). Once installed, the sound is great and CD quality. Great product if you want to keep your OEM radio to help deter theft and/or keep that original look to your vehicles.

A simple install and now the mp3 player is connected, CD quality. Who cares if the CD changer is gone? This is a great solution to keep that older radio working a little longer.

Nice Product- Works!

Written By PT, PA on Thursday, June 02, 2011
Installed in a 2003 Dodge Durango
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product is as advertised.

Installed in my 2003 Durango with no issues(took about 30-40 minutes- wanted to be careful and not break/scratch anything). Instructions that Crutchfield included for my car were great- definitely made the install even easier!

I will echo what others have said and the module is a little bigger than one would think, but, I had plenty of space in my dash for it to fit no problem.

I attached a 2 male RCA to 3.5mm jack to the module than ran a longer 3.5mm cable out under my dash. No more dealing with the FM transmitter (ie. STATIC STATIC STATIC) with my satellite radio and now I can easily hook up another portable music player when and if I want.

I wish I found this sooner!

good product

Written By BigWaveDave, CA on Sunday, March 27, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this product because I wanted to keep my stock stereo with the radio
preset buttons (most of the new radios don't have the preset buttons). I would
have preferred to install a double DIN DVD player but the radio bezel on my
2004 Ram quad cab is limited to the single DIN so I stuck with the stock stereo.

The product was easy to install but the cable length (that connects this device
with the stock radio) limits the locations where you can install it. Since the
product is fairly light weight I found a place to tuck it in and attached it with
velcro.

The product works great, a nice and straightforward upgrade for the stock
stereo. It's nice to be able to listed to my ipod or listed to a portable dvd player
over the stereo.

Great product

Fantastic product! Works exactly as advertised and sounds great! Who needs a cd
changer when you have an iPhone? Now I have all of my content wherever I go!
Music, SiriusXm, Pandora...everything! Super easy to install...

Only drawbacks are that the module is a little big and the connecting cable was
a little short. Regardless of these drawbacks I was able to make it work.
Additionally, I bought a rca male to flushmount mini headphone female jack that
I mounted in the dashboard which gives it a nice clean look.

Dr Wind

Written By Desler, Renton, Washington on Saturday, February 05, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this Ipod interface in my 2002 Sebring. The installation went very
smoothly as there is plenty of space for the interface box and a monstor rca to phono
cable in the case area. Just plug the adapter cable to the port on the stereo,
position the interface, set the radio back in the case, ensure you have enough phono
cable to position the Ipod where you want it, hook up the Ipod and go.

I couldn't be happier with the overall stereo sound. I 'm using the oem radio /CD
combo...now that I have a shuffle Ipod connected ....completes all I need in the car.

Many thanks the the Crutchfield staff for offering this solution and assistence !!

Works perfectly

Written By Aaron, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, January 29, 2011
Installed in a 2002 Dodge Intrepid
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with its factory AM-FM radio-CD player. The player
has its own single-CD front slot, and also the requisite connector in back for a remote
CD changer. That's where you connect this gizmo, instead of a changer. Just pulled off
the dash cover, pulled out the radio, connected this converter to the changer port, plugged
an RCA-to-3.5mm adapter cable to the (very short) RCA cable on this converter, and
snaked the extension cable out through the dash. Reattached the radio, replaced the dash
cover and plugged the 3.5mm into my Sirius satellite radio receiver-tuner. Voila! No more
hunting for an "empty" FM frequency, putting up with static & interference, and frequently
needing to change stations. Just the clean, clear sound of Howard Stern and his merry
band of whackos. Couldn't be happier. Fast delivery from Crutchfield, by the way, and as
good a price as I could find anywhere else. Bababooie!

Does exactly what it promises

Installed in a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter works well. The sound quality is very good and there is no
accessory noise in the line without any additional filters. It was very easy to
install in my 2002 Town and Country. I taped the box to the storage compartment
below the A/C control, and ran the input cord into the storage compartment, so i
can pull it out or roll it back in. If you need something more complex, upgrade
the stereo in your car. It is not much more expensive and is about the same
amount of work to install, unless you want the steering controls. In my case, I
love the stock stereo and just needed an auxiliary input. This device does
exactly that and does it well.

Can't be done for less than $399???

Written By jmulho, Little Rock, AR on Monday, January 18, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product (P.I.E. CHRY02-AUX) converts 10-pin jack (for optional trunk CD changer) on the
back of 2002-2004 era Chrysler stock car stereos into a pair of RCA auxiliary audio
inputs like on back of home stereo receivers. This allows you to connect ipod
headphone output to car stereo (cable sold separately).

Doesn't charge ipod, nor allow control via car stereo controls. P.I.E. makes other
versions that do, but none (as of Jan 2010) is perfect for latest ipod touch/iphone
(because USB2 instead of firewire). P.I.E. makes an adapter that solves this, but it is
clunky looking. I charge with cigarette lighter, so product is perfect for my needs.

I installed in 2003 Jeep Liberty in 25 minutes using just a Phillips screwdriver. I
removed screw next to the cigarette lighter, then carefully pried back console around
stereo and air conditioner (4 spring loaded clips) using just my fingers. Four screws
and a firm tug to slide out the stereo. Attached device to left with sheet rock screw so it
wouldn't rattle. Led headphone cable out near the cigarette lighter.

Sound quality is excellent - vastly superior to the terrible FM thingy I was using. My local
car stereo shop told me this couldn't be done for less than $399. I did it myself for this price!
