Features
Product Overview: The Panasonic
DMR-EH75V can record an A/V signal to DVD, VHS tape, or the built-in 80 GB hard
drive (HDD). Compatible blank DVDs include DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and
DVD+RW. Non-copyrighted material can be copied between any of these three
sources (DVD, VCR, or HDD), or from the built-in NTSC TV tuner, from a component
connected to any of the three A/V inputs (1 front/2 rear), or from a camcorder
connected to the front panel DV input.
Dual/Double Layer:
Dual layer DVD-Rs and double layer DVD+Rs are compatible with this unit, but
they can only record from the HDD. In order to record any other source, it must
first be recorded to the HDD, then copied to the DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL.
TV Guide On Screen:
TV Guide On Screen, a free interactive TV program guide, is
built into the DMR-EH75V, allowing you to easily select programs to record or
watch. The guide provides eight days of programming information, and
gives you handy search tools to easily find the program you're looking for. Once
you have entered your zip code and indicated whether and how you are connected
to cable TV, the program list is downloaded through your antenna/cable
connection. The initial download takes about a day to complete, and the unit
downloads further programming information while the unit is turned off.
Direct Navigator: A list of
programs is created as you record them on a DVD or the HDD. Using the Direct Navigator, you can
select programs from the list to watch. Direct Navigator provides information
about each program, including title, channel information, and time/date of
recording. The Direct Navigator can be displayed in Thumbnail of Table mode.
TV Tuner: The
recorder has a built-in NTSC TV tuner and can record TV shows to DVD, HDD, or
VHS. During the initial start-up, after the antenna has been connected,
the recorder will automatically tune in the available stations and set the
clock.
HDAVI Control: When connected to an HDAVI
compatible Panasonic TV or receiver via the HDMI cable, many functions of the
two components are linked together. This allows the DMR-EH75V to control the TV
or receiver's power on, input switching, power off, etc.
Chasing Play: While recording
on the HDD or a DVD-RAM disc, you can start watching the program currently recording from
the beginning, while the unit records a later part of the same program.
Simultaneous Record and Play:
While recording on the HDD or a DVD-RAM disc, you can watch a previously
recorded show while the
unit is recording another. Editing programs during Simultaneous Record and Play
is not possible.
Bass Management:
When using an HDMI connection to transfer audio to an amplifier with no speaker
management, the DMR-EH75V can
be used to adjust speaker size and delay time.
Auto Daylight Saving Time:
This feature automatically adjusts for daylight saving time. This feature can be
turned on or off.
Recording Features
Multiple Recording Modes: This
unit can record to HDD and DVD in four different speeds; SP is standard picture quality, LP is
long play with slightly lesser picture quality, EP is extra long play with the
lowest picture quality, and XP is the highest picture quality. In the Setup
Menu, you can choose to set the recorder to record either 6 or 8 hours of
programming in the EP mode (on a 4.7 GB disc). When the 8-hour recording option is chosen, the
sound quality is lowered compared to other recording modes. The flexible Recording mode
(FR) automatically selects a recording rate between XP and EP
(8H) that will enable the recordings to fit in the remaining disc space with the
best possible recording quality. You can set Flexible Recording mode when
transferring (dubbing) or programming scheduled recordings.

Recording Speed: The VCR can
record in SP, EP (3 times the length of SP), or VP (5 times the length of SP)
mode. Tapes recorded in the VP speed generally cannot be played back on other
VCRs.
Title
Capacity: You can record up to 500
titles on the HDD, up to 99
titles on a DVD-RAM, DVD-R, or DVD-RW disc, and up to 49 titles on a DVD+R or
DVD+RW disc. Each title can have approximately 1000 chapters, depending on the
state of the recording (250 for DVD+R or DVD+RW).
VCR Plus+: In addition to TV
Guide On Screen and manual programming, the DMR-EH75V also features VCR Plus+. Entering the VCR Plus+
code from your local newspaper or TV Guide can be used as an easy way to program
the unit to record.
Timer Recording: You can
manually program the timer to record a program; set the start time, stop time,
channel/input, record drive, record speed, and frequency (once,
daily, or weekly).
One-Touch Recording: You can
begin recording with a single press of the record button. Each subsequent press
of the button adds time to the recording in the following sequence: 30 minutes,
60 minutes, 90 minutes, 2 hours, 3 hours, and 4 hours.
Relief Recording:
When the recording drive is set to DVD for timer recording and the program
won't fit on the disc, a disc is not inserted, or the disc cannot be recorded
on, the recording drive is
automatically switched to HDD. If the time remaining on the HDD is insufficient,
as much of the recording as possible will be recorded onto the HDD. Any relief-recorded program will be
indicated in the Direct Navigator.
One Touch Copy (Dubbing): You can transfer
programs with one keystroke using the One Touch Copy buttons on the front of the
recorder. Transfer from VCR to DVD, VCR to HDD, HDD to DVD, HDD to VCR, DVD to
VCR and DVD to HDD.
Copy Protection: Some TV
programs have encoded copy protection, (using CPRM--Content Protection for
Recordable Media) allowing them to be recorded only once. It is not possible to
record digital broadcasts that allow One time only recording onto DVD-R,
DVD-RW, DVD+R, or DVD+RW. You must use CPRM-compatible DVD-RAM discs or record
to the HDD.
Note: Most pre-recorded
DVDs have copy protection that prevents them from being recorded at all.

recorded on this unit can be given names with the following maximum characters:

Editing: Once a program is
recorded on the HDD or DVD, it can be erased, or in the case of HDD and DVD-RAM recordings, parts of it can be erased. Operations that can be
performed with titles include erase, list properties, enter name, protect and
cancel protection from erasure, and the thumbnail image can be changed. HDD and
DVD-RAM recordings can be shortened by dividing or combining chapters, then
deleting the unwanted chapters.
Disc Settings: Once you have
recorded a disc, you can name the disc, protect the disc from erasure, and
choose whether or not to show the top menu after finalizing.
Finalizing Discs: Like a CD
recorder, this unit can finalize a DVD-R, DVD-RW, or DVD+R after recording so it
can be played on another DVD player (finalizing a disc effectively converts it
into a DVD Video). The process takes up to 15 minutes.
Playback Features
Disc Compatibility: In addition
to recording and playing back DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW discs, the
DMR-EH75V can play back DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-R recorded in DivX, Video CD, Audio CD, CD-R,
CD-RW and MP3, DivX, and JPEG/TIFF files (recorded on CD-R and CD-RW).
Stereo DVD-Audio Playback: When
DVD-Audio discs are played, the unit down mixes the multi-channel audio to two
channels. If the disc does not allow down mixing, then it will not play properly
on this unit.
Note: Only two channels
of audio will pass through the optical digital output.
Playlists: On a DVD-RAM or HDD
recording you can arrange
chapters in any order to create a playlist. Once a playlist is created, you can
name, copy, erase, list properties, and change thumbnails. Within each playlist,
you can add, move, divide, combine or erase chapters. You can create a total of
99 play lists and approximately 1000 chapters within a playlist.
MP3 Playback: This unit can
play back files recorded onto a CD-R or CD-RW with a computer. Compatible
formats include ISO9660 Level 1 or 2 (except for extended formats) and Joliet. The compatible
sampling frequencies include 16, 22.05, 24, 32, 44.1, and 48kHz and the compatible
bit rates range from 32 to 320kbps. This unit is not compatible with ID3
tags. The player will recognize a maximum of 99 folders (including the root
folder) and 999 files.
Still Picture Playback: This
unit can play back JPEG and TIFF files recorded onto an SD memory card, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, or
the HDD. The
unit can recognize a maximum of 999 files and 99 folders on CD-R and CD-RW, 3000
files and 300 folders on DVD-RAM and HDD. Compatible file sizes
range from 34 x 34 to 6144 x 4096. Motion JPEG is not supported.
DivX: This
unit can play back DivX files recorded onto a CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-R. The
unit can recognize a maximum of 200 files and 300 folders. DivX ver 3.11, 4.x,
and 5.x are supported.
S-VHS Quasi Playback (SQPB):
This unit can play back tapes recorded in the S-VHS system. Playback is in
standard VHS resolution.
Index Marks: Index marks are
inserted automatically at the start of every recording, you can then skip up to
20 index marks in either direction.
Jet Search: It is possible to
view the picture recorded on the VCR in EP or VP mode at approximately 27 or 35 times
normal speed.
PCM Down
Conversion: You can
select whether you want the player to down-convert a high-resolution audio
signal (96kHz or 88.2kHz sampling frequency) to 48kHz or 44.1kHz before passing it
through the digital output. If the equipment connected to this unit is capable
of processing a 96kHz or 88.2kHz signal, you should turn PCM Down Conversion
off. If the equipment is not capable of processing the high sampling frequency
signal, you should turn down-conversion on.
Note:
Signals are converted to 48kHz or 44.1kHz despite the settings if the
signals have a sampling frequency of over 96kHz or 88.2kHz, or if the
disc has copy protection.
Dialogue Enhancer:
This feature makes dialogue easier to hear by raising the volume of the center
channel.
Note: Dialogue Enhancer
only works with Dolby Digital-encoded DVDs that have at least three
channels of recorded audio, where the dialogue information is recorded
in the center channel.
Virtual Surround Sound (V. Surround): If you are only using two front speakers in
your system, this feature simulates a surround-sound environment. If you are
playing a disc with surround effects recorded on it, the effects are broadened
and the sound seems to come from virtual speakers on either side.
Note:
For use with Dolby Digital DVDs 2-channel or over only.
Picture Detail Adjustments: You
can make the following picture quality adjustments through the Video Menu:
- Normal: default setting
- Soft: softens picture with
fewer video artifacts
- Fine: sharpens details
- Cinema: mellows movies,
enhances detail in dark scenes
Resume
Function: When the Stop button is pressed, that position is
stored in the memory. When the Play button is pressed after pressing the Stop
button, playback resumes from the position where the disc was stopped. The
resume function is canceled if the disc tray is opened or the Stop button is
pressed a second time.
Multi-Angle Function: This
function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a
number of different angles.
Note: This function is
limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles.
Playback Operations: The
DMR-EH75V features the following playback operations:
Still Mode: You can specify the
type of picture shown when the player is paused. You can select Automatic,
Field, or Frame. When Field is selected, still pictures are displayed without
blur. Field should be chosen if jittering occurs when Automatic is selected.
When Frame is selected, even sharper still pictures are displayed. Frame should
be chosen if small text or fine patterns cannot be seen clearly when Automatic
is selected.
Black Level Control: You can
adjust the black level of the input signal by selecting Lighter or Darker.
For the output signal, you can select one of two choices of black level when
using composite or S-Video outputs; Lighter or Darker, or one of three
choices when using the component video outputs; Lighter, Normal, or
Darker.
Dynamic Range Compression: When
playing a Dolby Digital-encoded DVD, you can turn the Dynamic Range Compression
On for late night viewing. This is often referred to as a Midnight Mode or
Late Night Mode.
Remote Control
Remote Control: The supplied
remote is pre-coded to operate the basic functions of several different brands
of TVs, so you can control the DMR-EH75V and the basic functions of your
television with one remote. The remote control code can be set to one of three
codes so this remote doesn't interfere with other Panasonic equipment in the
same system.
Input and Output Notes
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface):
The unit's HDMI simplifies A/V connections by carrying uncompressed digital
video and audio all in one cable. This HDMI connection is compatible with a
DVI-equipped monitor or projector when an HDMI-DVI conversion cable is used.
This unit features HDCP copyright protection technology, and must be connected
to an HDCP-compliant device. The output resolution is up-converted from the
original to 1080i, 720p, or 480p, whichever best matches the capability of the
monitor or projector.
Component Video Output:
In addition to the composite video outputs and the S-video outputs, this unit is
equipped with a set of component video outputs on the rear panel. The component
video output can be set for interlaced or progressive scanning (480i or 480p) depending upon
the compatibility of the connected TV. When using the component video output,
you must turn the HDMI output off.
Front Panel A/V Inputs: The
unit has a set of audio/video inputs on the front panel behind a fold-down door.
The inputs include stereo audio RCA jacks, an RCA composite video jack, and an
S-video jack. Unlike the rear panel inputs, if you are connecting a mono source
to the front panel inputs, you can use the left channel audio jack and both
channels will be recorded onto the disc--no Y adapter is necessary.
DV Input: Also on the front panel, the DMR-EH75V features a DV input (IEEE1384/i-LINK)
for connecting a digital camcorder. Using the DV input you can record to the HDD
or a DVD, but not to the VCR.
SD Card: The SD memory card slot is on the
front panel, beside the DV input. Mini SD cards are also compatible when used
with an adapter.
Optical Digital Output: In
addition to the stereo analog audio outputs, this unit has an optical digital
output, compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, and 2-channel PCM. To enjoy multi-channel surround
sound from this output, you will need to connect a receiver/amplifier with a
built-in Dolby Digital or DTS decoder. In order to use the optical digital
output, the audio for the HDMI output must be turned off (the HDMI video can
still be used).
RF Input/Output: The RF Out
connection is a pass-through output for the antenna or cable signal fed to the
RF In connector. No audio or video output from this player is fed through the RF
out.
G-Link: This
unit features a 1/8" female mini-jack on the rear panel for connecting the
supplied IR blaster. This jack allows you to control a cable box or satellite
receiver for scheduled recordings and program listing downloads.
