Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Polk's db401 speakers feature 4" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. The built-in two-way crossovers keep the high and low frequencies flowing to the proper drivers for seamless, efficient audio.

Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofer Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite mineral-filled cone. The cones are stiff and lightweight for big sound and low distortion.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use butyl rubber surrounds.

Kapton Voice Coil Former: The low-mass, 2-layer Kapton Voice Coil former is lightweight for high sound output. Kapton's high melting temperature (725°F) ensures high power handling and longer reliability.

Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The 3/4" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite tweeters provide clear, detailed highs. The tweeters use neodymium magnets.

2-way Crossover Network: The built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging.

Outstanding construction, fit and finish. Quality speakers that out perform their small size. I have the first set mounted in the fairing of my touring motorcycle and hooked to the stock stereo. As is to be expected there is not over whelming bass, they are 4" coaxial after all. However they present a very clear and balanced sound in an unfriendly environment for music. (Open air, wind and traffic noise.) They also fit MUCH better and sound MUCH better than the 4" Bazookas that they replaced.

Respectable bass, balanced sound, great fit and finish

Speakers are really clear but distort easy if bass settings are very high. Great if your using for a tweeter, unfortunately my care only had room for this size in the front. Otherwise a 5.25 would sound much better.

Installed in a 1987 Volvo 240 Series

Bought these to replace the busted Pyle speakers in the door. Never really got much sound from the front mounted 4 inch speakers, so the system was heavily biased towards the rear 6x9's and the trunk mounted sub. But these speakers really kick! Now I use a neutral setting front to back so I can hear these. A little pricey for 4" speakers, but definately worth every cent.

Awesome Speakers

Searched all around the web, and in stores locally in Rochester. A friend pointed out this website, which helped me in so many ways. I read the reviews on these exact speakers and was extremely impressed by what others were saying. I bought them, couldnt resist the price, and installed them in my 94 Saab 9000. They sound absolutely ridiculous. i dont have an amp set up in line with the Polks, but they dont even need an amp, their that good. These babies crank out an impressive amount of sound for 4" speakers, best i could find online. Along with my Rockford 6x9 and the two Rockford 10" subs, my car sounds rediculous. the clarity you get out of these speakers is incredible. I would refer all of my friends to this product for sure.

If you have to buy 4in speakers

I have these in the dash of my Jeep on a 4 channel 60RMS amp and they get loud they are with 2, 5 1/4 DB polks and a 10in kicker and I can blow out your ear drums with the top down on my jeep. Just remember they are 4in Highs are great and clear mids are okay no lows at all.

Installed in the dash of my 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I can't believe how much I can hear with the top off (and doing 70-ish mph). I can turn them up as loud as I want, and not lose any sound quality. They fit perfectly in the dash and installing them took less than 30mins, and I've never installed speakers before. Thank you to my "expert advisor" Chuck for pointing these out to me. I'm very happy!!

Had Kenwood speakers in my motorcycle fairing and replaced them with the Polk speakers. I have extremely loud exhaust pipes. My ears are still ringing from the speakers. Hardly no distortion at high volume. Well worth the money.

Well worth it...

All in all these are a great set of speakers. For the price, there aren't too many
other brands that can beat them. Clear highs, great output and they get louder
than h*ll. I'd definitely buy these again. They sound great in the dash of my 02
Jeep Wrangler (with the top down at 70mph) so I can only imagine how they
would sound as an enclosed speaker in a pod box or a door panel.

"Outfit my car" guide is wrong for 92 4Runner

The guide says they don't fit, but indicates the back doors and rear panels.
These ACTUALLY fit perfectly in the stock ported boxes in front dash panels.

They also sound great compared to the replacement 3" Rockford Fosgates that were
in there!

I have these installed in the dash of my Jeep Wrangler. These speakers have
great sound and at a great price. They worked perfectly during this years
amazing Mardi Gras season when I had the top down and the doors off!!!!
Highly suggest these speakers. I have these speakers partnered with a set of
Bass Blockers so I could let my stereo push them instead of having to get an
amp to prevent them from distorting at the higher volumes! No complaints with
these great speakers!

Awesome factory replacements

absolutely awesome! just replaced the factory speakers in my Grand Am and these are
bangin! not much bass from these little guys but i run 2 12's in the trunk so bass isnt a
problem. the highs are crystal clear and good mids. definitely an improvement over stock
and for the price you cant beat them! Polk has just made me a lifetime customer!

Paired these with a new HU and the 6.5 inchers from the same series for my STI. You can't
expect alot from 4" speakers, but these definitely impress! Great SQ through out the whole
spectrum. Bottom end is a little lacking, but come on, they are 4" speakers. Great for the
price. Easy install, Crutchfield included everything with great shipping speed and awesome
customer service. These are a great option to replace stock speakers. You won't be
disappointed.

For my installation, I had to find suitable rear-door speakers for my '07
Impreza. I was able to fit Polk MM6501's up front, so I just needed some
"filler" sound for the back. These things fit the bill. Running them with 800Hz
HPF's, I'm surprised how hard you can hit them for such little speakers.

For what the speaker is it can't be beat. My only complaint is that the crutchfield website suggested a 4" speaker for the rear doors of a 2002 Toyota 4 Runner and the door could easily accomidate a 5 1/4 " - 5 1/2" ( I would have Srung For The Larger Speaker)
