5-Channel Full-Range Amplifier:
The Jensen Power 1500.5D is a five-channel, class-D amplifier, designed to run
front and rear speakers and a subwoofer. It comes with a Remote Input Level
Control that allows you to vary the volume of the subwoofer channel from the
front seat of the vehicle.
CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and
measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard
advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and
signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage
of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4-ohm load at full
20-20kHz bandwidth with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N).
Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a
reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car
amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Following the CEA-2006 criteria, the
power ratings for the amplifier include:
- 58 Watts RMS x 4 channels + 215 Watts RMS x 1 channel into 4 ohms @ <1%
THD+N
- 87 watts RMS x 4 channels + 340 watts RMS x 1 channel into 2 ohms @ <1%
THD+N
- 180 watts RMS x 2 channels (bridged stereo) into 4 ohms @ <1% THD+N
Note: The following manufacturer's power specs, displayed
on the box and in the manual, are measured @ 2% THD+N, 1 kHz, and 14.4 Volts DC:
- 60 watts RMS x 4 channels + 230 watts RMS x 1 channel into 4 ohms
- 90 watts RMS x 4 channels + 400 watts RMS x 1 channel into 2 ohms
- 190 watts RMS x 2 channels (bridged stereo) into 4 ohms
Controls
Independent Gain Controls: The Power 1500.5D features
independent rotary gain controls for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels.
The line inputs will accept signals between 400mV and 5.0 Volts.
Crossovers: The amp has independent crossovers for the
front, rear, and sub channels. The front and rear channels each have a
continuously variable high-pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 16Hz-160Hz.
You can defeat the crossovers via a 2-way switch by setting them to "Flat". The
sub channel has a continuously variable low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency
of 30Hz-160Hz. The low-pass filter cannot be defeated.
Input Mode: The Input Mode can be set according to the RCA
line inputs connected to the amp. A 2-way switch lets you choose between 4CH and
5CH modes:
- 4CH: For head units without a separate subwoofer output, you
should select 4-channel mode. The subwoofer channel is a sum of Front L,
Front R, Rear L, and Rear R.
- 5CH: For head units with a mono Subwoofer output, you should
select 5-channel mode. The subwoofer channel is a sum of both sub RCA
inputs.
Bass Boost: The amp features a continuously variable Bass
Boost on the subwoofer channel, adjustable from 0 to +12dB, and centered at
45Hz. This allows different subwoofer/enclosure combinations to be equalized.
The control lets you increase the level of low bass available from the
subwoofer/enclosure combination. Ported and Bandpass enclosures should be
limited to about +6dB to +9dB of boost, while sealed enclosures should be able
to accept the full +12dB of boost, if necessary.
Connections
Power/Ground/Turn-On Terminals: The amplifier features
set-screw terminals for the power, ground, and remote turn-on connections. The Power and Ground
connections will accept up to 4 AWG power wire, while the turn-on lead terminal will
accept 18 to 8 AWG wire. A Phillips-head screwdriver (not supplied) is required for
tightening or loosening the set-screws.
Note: A 6 AWG power wire is recommended for installing
this amplifier. Since 6 AWG amp wiring kits are not very common, a 4 AWG amp
wiring kit can be substituted for a 6 AWG kit. A 60A fuse should be
substituted for the fuse supplied by the 4 AWG kit.
Speaker Output Terminals: The Power 1500.5D amplifier's
ten set-screw speaker terminals will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire. A minimum
of 12 AWG speaker wire is recommended by the manufacturer. A Phillips-head
screwdriver (not supplied) is required for tightening or loosening the
set-screws.
Preamp Inputs: The amplifier features 3 pair of
RCA jack inputs. The Input Mode switch should be set according to the Line Input
connections.
Remote Input Level Control: The amplifier features a 3.5mm connector for
connecting the supplied wired Remote Input Level Control. With Remote Input
Level Control, you can control the volume of all channels from the front of the
vehicle. If the amp is used to drive subwoofers, and the low-pass filter is
activated, the Remote Input Level Control can be used to control the bass level
independent from the rest of the system. The Remote Input Level Control has a
16.25' cable.
