If you want top-notch Polk sound for all your music and movies, but don't want to sacrifice the floor space that standard speakers require, the Polk RC80i in-ceiling speakers offer a perfect alternative. Each one includes a 8" Dynamic Balance woofer and a 1" Dynamic Balance dome tweeter for rich, full-bodied sound throughout your listening area.

The tweeter's ball-and-socket swivel mount lets you aim it as you please, directing the high frequencies for the best possible sound in your favorite listening positions. The RC80i is voice-matched to other Polk speakers, so you can use a pair as your surround speakers in a home theater system that includes more traditional freestanding speakers for the front channels.

The rotating-cam design makes installation easy — once you've prepared the opening in your ceiling and run UL-rated wiring from your receiver, you can secure this flush-mount speaker with a few turns of a screwdriver. And you can paint the white matte grilles to match any decor.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the RC80i in a home with new construction.

Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance drivers are used for wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofers: Each speaker features an 8" Dynamic Balance, mineral-filled polypropylene woofer for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1" Dynamic Balance, metalized soft dome tweeter in a ball-and-socket swivel mount. The aimable tweeters give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.

Infinite Baffle Tuning: Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response.

Moisture-resistant: Durable, moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speakers in bathrooms, kitchens, saunas, even under outdoor eaves.

Mounting Options

Installation: The round shape and flush-design allow the RC80i to mimic the look of a recessed lighting fixture. Each speaker requires a cutout of 9.375" and a mounting depth of 3.25". Each speaker frame has a diameter of 10.685". Once the holes are cut, each speaker can be dropped in and the Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure each speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. If you will not be mounting these speakers in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speakers before installation; each speaker weighs approximately 4.5 pounds.

Paintable: The grille and flange can be painted, allowing these speakers to match any decor.

These speakers are awesome. To be honest, i have no other in-ceiling speakers to compare them to but they sound amazing. They are being run by a Denon 2312-CL and they sound good. For the price, you can NOT beat this!!

Excellent speakers for my surround. Easy to install (wires were pre-run when the house was built) and great sound. Call the 800 number and talk to an advisor before a purchase. They are very helpful and and made choosing the right speakers for me easy.

Bought a pair to expand to 7.1 with my existing B&O surrounds. Built .8 CF boxes of 3/4" birch and mounted them in the ceiling. The Polks sounded much better than I thought the purchase price would get me. So, I bought a second pair to replace the B&Os in the back surround locations. I boxed these also and drove them with my main channels to get a feel what they would do. In these boxes, they reproduced most of the spectrum extremely well. Hit pretty hard and tight, and the highs were pretty clean. I mounted these permanently in the back surround location. Now, I'm extremely happy with my full Monitor Series setup.
Pros:
Sound quality, price, directional tweeters.
Cons:
Ceiling installs make a mess.

The sound quality and construction cannot be beat for the price point. The mounting system couldn't be easier. The in ceiling speakers do lack some of the quality bass and lower frequency but most in ceiling/in wall speakers do.

Overall a great pair of speakers for the price.

The Polk Audio RC80i in ceiling speakers are used as my rear surround sound speakers powered by a Denon AVR-891 Receiver and, they sound awesome. I ordered the speakers through Crutchfield and they were shipped well packaged and, the delivery was quick. It took the installer a few hours to run wires through the ceiling and walls but, it was worth the wait. The speakers themselves installed effortlessly.
Pros:
Sounds Great!!!
Cons:
Running wires through the ceiling and down the walls (with insulation) took a while.

Bought four of these for our kitchen remodel and installed all of them in the rough openings in just one hour. They are VERY easy to install and sound great. Crutchfield had a great price on them and my order came in a timely fashion with no problems. I accidently bent one of the grills during installation and called Crutchfield for a replacement. Not only did I talk to a real person, they are sending out a replacement grill at no charge to me! Way to go Crutchfield, you went beyond the call of duty!

Easy install, great sound, great price
Cons:
Be careful with the grill - they are a little sensitive.

Bought these Polks back in late 2010 and finally installed them just before the end of 2011. Took my time so the job took 1 to 1 1/2 hours but the end result looks great and the Polks sound far better than I would have guessed. Glad I went with the 8" Polks.
Pros:
Templates are actually the correct size (don't assume they are with all in-wall, in-ceiling speakers). Mounting clips work easily and can be worked with a screwdriver (don't assume this will all speakers). Sound is better than I would have guess for price and brand.
Cons:
Nothing bad to say about the Polks. Installing ceiling speakers is a messy job with lots of drywall dust but the end result with the Polks looks very good.

Speakers sound great. Also want to add:

Everyone is complaining about how hard it is to get the grill off. Here's the fix. Someone posted it earlier. Use the screws/locking mechanism that hooks it in the ceiling or wall and push down on them pretty hard. The screws will push the grill out for you and you'll be all set.

Not Good Enough

Installed these speakers in basement ceiling for general use in 4 zones. Not pleased with the sound quality. They sound is muffled and lacks crispness or decent bass. Ended up not using some of these and coudn't return them as too much time had passed. Purchased Infiniti speakers and replaced a set with them and the Infinitis sound fantastic. Also wish as I had discussed my needs with the sales technicial that I had been recommended to use the speakers where Left and Right are built into one unit. That would have saved a lot of cutting and provided me with the same outcome.

I am very impressed by these speakers. The construction seems very high quality.
Installation was exceptionally easy - literally just cut the hole in your drywall using the
included template, hook up the wires, and turn four screws for each speaker. I am
using these as a stereo pair in a secondary room, primarilary for music. The sound is
very good. Overall for the price this is an outstanding pair of speakers.

Great speaker for the price. This sounds more full and dynamic than the 6" speaker.
Well worth buying up to this 8" speaker. I rate this a 5 star and the 6" a 3 star. This 8"
handles the power good and delivers great sound and rocks the room. Would
recomend a sub woofer to get those deeper and fuller base sounds. I paired 4 8" for
front and rear with a PSW125 sub and I am happy. Installed 8" pairs in 3 other rooms
and 6" in 2 rooms.

Great value for money

Solid speaker. Well made. Nice performance. I purchased 4 of the these (rear surround,
back, and center) and 2 MC80 for the fronts. Although they are not voice matched to the
MC80 they work well with them. Especially in the positions they are in. The MC80's are
a better speaker and worth the extra money but use them where you need the extra money
spent. Otherwise use the RC80i's. They are better with a sub but an 8" woofer performs
well. you need a sub to really bring out effects in movies, especialy with in-cieling speakers.
The average guy cant tell the differance in sound. One note - the speaker grills do not contain
the white paper on the inside as the grills on the MC80's do. That paper goes a long way in
makeing them blend into your ceiling. Without the paper they take on a yellow or brown hue
sicne the tiny holes in the grill let the black color of the speaker itself show through. The white
paper on the MC80's makes the entire grill (holes and all) look white. That is my only
complaint. Otherwise the funntion very well.
