Overview: The Niles VS-6 is a 6-source, 6-zone video switcher. You can take up to six High Definition video inputs and distribute them to any of 6 zone outputs. You can choose between
traditional component video output cables, or balanced video signals over CAT-5 cables. The VR-6 can be used as a stand-alone switcher, or as part of a complete distributed A/V solution with
compatible Niles MultiZone audio systems. Note: The VS-6 is a video-only component; there are no audio inputs or outputs.
Network Integration: The VS-6 can be used in conjunction with a Niles MultiZone Audio Receiver (such as 190ZR6) to create a seamless audio/video system. The video signals are distributed by
the VS-6 while the audio signals are distributed and amplified by the audio receiver. Wall-mounted control panels, such as the Solo-6 IR (190S6IR), can be used to select and control the source
components. Note: The VR-6 receives the control commands from the receiver through the rear panel IR input port or through CAT-5 cables.
Switchable Power: The VS-6 has a flexible, high-quality, switchable power supply that can be used in 110V or 230V countries. The two-way voltage switch is located on the rear panel.
Ferrite Core Beads: Included with the VR-6 are two clip-on ferrite core beads. These should be installed on any attached CAT-5 cables in groups of up to 3 cables, no more than 6" from the
back panel of the VR-6. Installation of the beads are required for FCC and EMC compliance to suppress high frequency noise.
Rack Mount Option: Two metal rack-mount ears are included to install the VS-6 into a professional metal rack. With the rack-mount ears installed, the VS-6 is 3U (3 units) high. Attaching the
ears to the unit increases the overall width to 18-15/16".
Connections
Component Video Inputs/Outputs: The unit has six gold-plated, high-definition component video inputs (Y/Pb/Pr). Any of the six input signals can be routed to any of the six zoned outputs.
Each zoned video output has simultaneous analog component (RCA) and balanced component (RJ-45) video output.
Cascade Outputs: In addition to the zoned video output, the VR-6 has six buffered cascade component video outputs (RCA), allowing the switcher to "share" source video with home theater
systems or an additional "slave" VS-6 video switcher.
RJ-45 Communication Ports: A single female RJ-45 jack, labeled "Out to Master" provides a connection with a compatible Niles Network MultiZone Receiver for seamless distributed audio/video
solution. Six additional RJ-45 Communication Ports are provided for communications with and control of products, such as Niles Network keypads and the IRG (Infrared Gateway). The communication with
these products is conducted over CAT-5 cable.
IR Control: The VS-6 can be controlled by IR (infrared) codes, which can be picked up via the front-panel IR Sensor Window or the rear-panel IR Input Port (3.5mm minijack). The switcher has
a simple IR command code set (available from Niles Technical Support website) that can be programmed into any universal learning remote. The switcher can also receive commands from a compatible
MultiZone receiver, or through any Niles IR Main System Unit (MSU).
RS-232 Control: An RS-232 Input Port (a nine-pin DB-9 female jack) is provided for connecting a third party external control device. A series of 8 DIP switches can be found on the back of
the unit to designate the Unit ID, baud rate, and IR/RS-232, or network control of the switcher. The RS-232 string codes are found in the manual.
