Features

Overview: The Toshiba SD-4000 DVD player is a multi-format single disc player that features ColorStream Pro Progressive Scan Component Video Outputs for enhanced color purity and image detail.

Playable Discs: The SD-4000 can play the following discs.

  • DVD-video, DVD-ROM, Divx
  • DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+/- R DL, DVD+/-RW DL
  • Video CDs and Super Video CDs
  • CD, CD-R, CD-RW
  • MP3, WMA, and JPEG formats recorded onto CD-R
ColorStream Pro Component Video Output: These outputs allow the video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video equipped interlace or progressive scan TV. When this connection is utilized with today's HD-compatible TVs, typical NTSC artifacts-like video noise, dot crawl and flicker are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3/WMA audio files recorded onto CD-R discs using the ISO 9660 Level 1, 2 or Joliet formats (CD-RW discs not recommended). Compatible bit rates include 32-320 kbps for MP3 and 48-192 kbps for WMA. During MP3/WMA playback, you can use repeat, program, and random functions, but you cannot use search or A-B repeat functions. Each disc can have no more than 256 folders and 1000 files.

JPEG Disc Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto CD-ROM and CD-R discs using the ISO 9660 Level 1, 2, or Joliet formats (CD-RW not recommended). Each disc can have no more than 256 folders and 1000 files. Maximum file size is 3072 x 2048. You can select a single image from an index of 9 thumbnails. You are able to rotate a single image clockwise or counter-clockwise by 270, 180 or 90 degrees. You can also view your still images in a Slide Show fashion. The image intervals of the still image Slide Show can be adjusted from 5, 10, or 15 seconds.

DivX Files: You can play DivX files that have been recorded on a CD-R or CD-ROM (650MB / 74 minute only) using the ISO 9660 level 1, 2 or Joliet formats (CD-RW not recommended). Each disc can have no more than 256 folders and 1000 files.

Screen Saver: The player can be set to automatically go into a screen saver mode after approximately 2 minutes of inactivity. While in this mode, the Toshiba DVD logo appears and moves across the screen. Many movies will display the main menu indefinitely after the movie has ended. If left onscreen for a prolonged period of time, burn-in on the TV screen may result without this feature.

Digital Picture Zoom: This interactive DVD feature allows you to select an area of the picture you want to zoom in on and magnify it. Enhanced digital processing during moving video or freeze-frame playback produces superior color fidelity and resolution, even when you are zoomed in. This feature can also be used to expand letterbox-only films to increase the viewable area on-screen. You can increase the zoom in 3 steps.

Variable Speed Playback: The DVD player offers the following variable playback speeds.

  • Skip: skips to the previous chapter or track
  • Pause/Step: during pause mode you can advance one frame at a time in a forward direction
  • Fast Forward/Reverse: scan fast forward or reverse through your DVD at 2x, 8x 30x, or 100x normal speed.
  • Slow: allows slow playback of your DVD in forward or reverse at 1/2x, 1/4x, or 1/8x normal speed.

Toolkit: When you play MP3/WMA/Audio or CD/JPEG/DivX files you are able to modify Play modes through the Toolkit which is an on-screen menu that displays on your TV. You can select what tracks to playback and from the following play modes.

  • Filter: sets playback for Audio, Photo or Video files
  • Mode: allows you to select from the following Play Modes
    • Normal: normal playback
    • Shuffle: plays back tracks/files in random order
    • Random: plays back tracks/files in random order and will repeat playback
    • Intro: only plays back the first 10 seconds of all the files in the current folder or all the tracks on the current disc
  • Repeat: choose from Single track repeat or All tracks repeat
  • Edit: allows for memory mode operation
  • Memory View: view tracks/files in the Memory View list
  • Add Memory: add files/tracks to the memory View list; only 10 files/tracks can be selected each time; the maximum number of files/track is 30
  • Browser View: view files/tracks in the Original View list
  • Clear: delete the files/tracks in the Memory View list

A-B Repeat: This feature allows you to set the beginning and end points of a section of the disc to repeat.

Resume Playback: The DVD player will memorize the location where playback is stopped so the next time you push play the disc will start up right where you left off.

Note: The stopping point is cleared when the Stop button is pressed more than once or the disc tray is opened.

T-Search: You can select a specific video segment on your disc by entering in the Title number, Chapter number, Track number and/or Time via the T-Search feature.

Enhanced Sound Enhancement: You can engage the 3D Virtual Surround mode with the E.A.M. (Enhanced Audio Mode) button on the remote to obtain expansive virtual surround sound effects from just two speakers (effective during playback of DVD or Video CD).

Enhanced Picture Enhancement: You can engage one of two picture enhancements with the E.P.M. (Enhanced Picture Mode) button on the remote. Brightness and Contrast can each be adjusted between 0 and 8.

Camera Angle: If the scene of a movie was recorded from multiple angles, you can easily change the camera angle of the scene you are watching.

Subtitles: You can display subtitles on the TV screen and select a subtitle language from those included on the DVD disc.

Multi-Language: The DVD player features a on-screen display menu with language adjustment. You can choose from English, Spanish or French.

TV Shape: You can choose from a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio for the video output of this DVD player.

View Modes: You may choose from one of the following options to view your DVD movie on your Television.

  • Fill: fills the screen with the decoded image
  • Original: displays the image as its original size
  • Height Fit: fits the screen height with the image height
  • Width Fit: fits the screen width with the image width
  • Auto Fit: automatically fits the decoded image on screen without distortion
  • Pan Scan: automatically displays the decoded image on full screen without distortion.

Night Mode: Night Mode or Dynamic Range Compress reduces the variations between loud and soft sounds in audio output so you can still hear the softer sounds and dialogue even at very low volume. Great for listening to movies late at night by yourself when everyone else has went to bed.

Parental Lock Function: You can select a parental control rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.

Tray Lock: You can lock the tray of the DVD player so it will not open without a special sequence of buttons.

Automatic Power Off: If the DVD video player is stopped, or the screen save is engaged for approximately 20 minutes, the DVD video player will automatically turn itself off.

Remote Control: The DVD player comes supplied with a full-function wireless IR remote control designed to work this player only.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

Component Video: The SD-4000 features ColorStream Pro component video outputs which allow the video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video-equipped interlaced or progressive scan TV. Typical artifacts, such as video noise, dot crawl, and flicker, are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity. In addition to the component video outputs, the unit also has one composite and one S-Video output.

Coaxial Digital Output: This unit features a coaxial digital output to allow you to connect the player to a receiver with a Dolby Digital or DTS decoder. There is no optical digital output on this unit. The unit also has one set of analog composite audio outputs if your application only calls for hooking the DVD audio up to your Television.
