Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the JVC KD-R720

by Zak Billmeier

Isn't it nice to have choices? JVC packs two USB inputs into the KD-R720 CD receiver, giving you lots of playback options. Here's one idea: add JVC's optional Bluetooth® adapter and connect it to the rear input — then you can make and receive phone calls hands-free. And your front USB input remains free for connecting your iPod® or iPhone®. Or load up a thumb drive with digital tunes and pop it into one of the USB slots. It's up to you.

Bring PANDORA® Internet radio on the road
PANDORA® lovers, you can play all your stations through the KD-R720. Just download a free app for your iPhone®, connect it to one of the USB inputs, and enjoy. Plus you can play audio from other apps right through the stereo, giving you tons of listening options on your next trip.

Customize your look
JVC's Separated Variable-Color display lets you pick separate colors for the left and right sides of the KD-R720 for a style that's all your own. With over 30,000 possible colors available for each side, your options are virtually never-ending. And if that seems like too many to choose from, you can tell the stereo to continually cycle through all the colors for a truly unique look.

Wonderful sound
JVC uses a Burr-Brown 24-bit digital-to-analog converter in this receiver. That's a mouthful, but what does it mean to you? A digital-to-analog converter takes the digital information stored on your CDs and in your music files, and turns it back into music. Burr-Brown converters are universally recognized for their smooth, superior sound, and you'll usually find them only in expensive home CD players and top-of-the-line car stereos. If you're building a full audio system in your vehicle, you'll really appreciate this feature.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod note:
If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

      Display Features

Detachable Face: The JVC KD-R720 features a detachable face to deter theft. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

2-Line LCD: The head unit features a two-line, alphanumeric-text LCD with adjustable color, brightness, and dimmer settings.

Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC KD-R720 features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except the Display, Brightness, & Eject buttons (they remain red). You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

Clock Display: The JVC CD receiver features a 12-hour clock display. You can switch between the head unit's source information and clock display when the unit is powered on. When you power the unit off, you can press the "display" button to temporarily view the clock display.

      Audio Section

      Burr-Brown 24-bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-R720 utilizes a premium TI/Burr-Brown 24-bit digital-to-analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-R720 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-R720 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-R720 are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-R720 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Pro EQ: The KD-R720 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

      Tone Pro EQ
      Frequency Level Q
      Bass 50, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.7, 1.0, 1.4, 2.0
      Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.7, 1.0, 1.4, 2.0
      Treble 5, 10, 15 khz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.7, 1.0, 1.4, 2.0

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output: The KD-R720 is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading.

Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KD-R720 features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.

      • High-Pass Filter: You can activate a variable high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear channels (speaker- or preamp-level), so low frequency signals are cut off from your system's front & rear speakers. You can set the cutoff frequency of the high-pass filter at 62Hz, 95Hz, or 135Hz.
      • Low-Pass Filter: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz.

Subwoofer Level: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between 0 and 8.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

      Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-R720 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning.

Preset Tuning: You can store a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets. The radio allows you to set your AM/FM stations manually or automatically. This unit does not offer front-panel preset buttons. You will need to access your saved presets through the receiver's menu.

Title Assignment: You can assign titles (up to 8 characters) for up to 30 AM/FM stations.

IF Filter: You can also switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

Mono: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:

      • SIRIUS: The JVC KD-R720 is compatible with the SiriusConnect Universal Tuner and Plug & Play Dock.
        • SiriusConnect Tuner: Connect the optional SC-C1 SiriusConnect vehicle tuner (item number 607SCC1) and the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item number 105KSRA100) - package # 700SIRJVC1, sold separately.
        • SiriusConnect Dock: Select dock-and-play and portable SIRIUS radios can be controlled using the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item number 105KSRA100, sold separately) and the SC-VDOC1 dock (item number 607SCVDOC1, sold separately).
      • XM: To receive XM Satellite Radio connect the optional CNP2000UCA XM Direct2 tuner and the JVC CNP-JVC1 adapter cable (package item number 700XMJVC2, sold separately).
Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.

      Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: The KD-R720 can play MP3 (5-320 kbps), WMA (5-320 kbps), and WAV (705-1411 kbps) audio files that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. The head unit can recognize a total of 20,000 files and 2,000 folders (999 files per folder). The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3/WMA/WAV files (up to 128 characters).

Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD, so you can easily access your music. The Track/Folder List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc. If the MP3/WMA disc contains a lot of tracks, you can fast search (+/-10 or +/-100) through the disc by turning the unit's control dial quickly.

Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KD-R720 offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.

      • Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current track repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function)
      • Random: Folder Random (plays all tracks of the current folder, then the tracks of the next folder in random), All Random (plays all tracks of the current disc at random), Off (cancels random function)

Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to CD, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.

Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

      USB/iPod/Aux Connectivity

Dual USB Ports: The JVC KD-R720 features a front-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (behind a sliding cover) and a rear-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (attached to a 45" pigtail) for connection of USB mass-storage class devices. The USB ports enable audio playback and control of MP3 (32-320 kbps), WMA (5-320 kbps), and WAV (705-1411 kbps) audio files stored on portable USB mass-storage class devices formatted in FAT 12/16/32.

Note: Both of the USB terminals can be connected to USB devices at the same time. You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

iPod/iPhone Direct: The JVC KD-R720's front-panel or rear-panel USB port can also act as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. An additional iPod cable is available (469USBPOD, sold separately) so you can leave one at home and one in the car. Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit.

iPod/iPhone Audio Playback: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's large music libraries to be loaded instantly to the JVC head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 102dB. The JVC KD-R720 supports audio playback of music files, podcasts, and apps stored on your iPod or iPhone.

iPod/iPhone Control: You can choose to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit or from your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen.

      • Music Browsing: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search your iPod/iPhone's music by Category (Playlist/Artist/Album/Song/Genre/Composer). If the selected category contains a high number of tracks, you can fast search (+/-10, 100, 1000) through the music tracks in that particular category by simply turning the head unit's control dial.
      • Repeat & Random: The KD-R720 also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone.

Note: You can listen to apps stored on your iPhone through the JVC head unit when controlling the iPhone via its touchscreen (cannot access apps via head unit control mode).

iPod/iPhone Display: The KD-R720 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, regardless of control mode. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label.

Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the JVC KD-R720 using your connected Apple iPhone, via the USB/iPod connector cable (included with your iPhone). The JVC KD-R720 provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information. You can select Pandora stations from your station list, and skip song tracks within a station. You can also give songs a thumbs up/down and bookmark songs/artists. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS3 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

iPod/iPhone Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone.  If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Auxiliary Input Adapter for JVC (469JVCJRCA), both sold separately, may be used to provide an additional auxiliary audio input on this unit. This feature allows you to connect a portable audio player, such as a portable MP3 player, to this unit as an additional audio source. The adapter connects to the J-port on this unit.

      Bluetooth/Remote Control

Optional Bluetooth: The unit's front- or rear-panel USB port can also be used to connect JVC's KS-BTA50 Bluetooth/USB Adapter (105KSABTA5, sold separately). The KS-BTA50 gives you hands-free communication from your compatible Bluetooth mobile phone and wireless streaming audio from a Bluetooth enabled digital audio player. The optional JVC Bluetooth/USB Adapter includes an external microphone and allows you to operate your mobile phone from the JVC head unit's controls. The KD-R720 will automatically mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can listen to your telephone call using your car speakers.

Wireless Remote Control: The KD-R720 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK52). The remote contains Power, Attenuator, Sound, Source, Tracking, and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). A great car stereo for the money. It sounds great even with the factory speakers. This unit is easy to use and install and looks really cool with all the color options for the display and the remote control.
      Pros:
easy to install and set up, the remote control is a big plus
      Cons:
      none so far

the radio was OK but items i have gotten used to are more complicated than it should be. the radio stations are able to be preset but you go though many steps to change between the channels. the color for the display needs to be constantly changed due to the glare on the panbel during the day, the display when the ipod is runing is very weak compared to the pioneer and other units, I would recommend going to a store and seeing the unit before buying ,it was a disapointment , but the sound is good!
      Pros:
both frount and rear usb hook ups
      Cons:
display and the general operation of the features, very small buttons to change the tracks/stations

This by far was one of the easiest units to install....It took approx 1 1/2 hrs, from start to finish....instructions were without errors, wiring layout was excellent....use of all materials sent were exceptional....step by step was excellent....went in first try....will definetely come back to Crutchfield in the future for any quality items I may need....
      Pros:
easy install, easy to follow instructions, worked first time when turned on....sound is superb compared to factory unit, even with factory speakers sound was much improved
      Cons:
I have nothing negative to say....quality product / good price / great value for the money

I can't believe I bought this unit and didn't realize there wasn't any HD. In my defense, almost every other JVC that is over $80 has a built in HD tuner. Kinda bummed.

I bought this stereo for my 2002 Chevy Cavalier and am happy with it. Installation was not too bad considering I've never installed one before.
      Pros:
Color options for display and buttons; front and rear USB and auxiliary plug-ins; numerous station preset options; several preset EQ settings
      Cons:
difficulty figuring out how to set some of the color options and station presets, the manual was less than enlightening, I still can't figure out how to switch the color displays from my day settings to my night settings and it certainly doesn't do it on its own which I thought it would, else why even have the option

      New Head Unit

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I need to replace the Shaker 500 in my car after my battery died, and the unit indicated a "CD ERROR". I was unable to remove the errr, so I searched Crutchfield and found this JVC KD-R720. I chose it bacause of its USB capability. The instructions on removing the stock radio was crystal clear!! The wiring harness drawgins on the other hand could have used more accurate detail. The JVC drawing indicated only 1 harness to be used for the radio swap, but my car has 3 harnesses!!! (LoL).I need to call Crutchfield Tech Support for help and the representative could not have been better. He was very professional and knowledgable and really helped me with my questions. The re-install was slightly harder then the intial removal, but I still completed it with minimal problems. The stock speakers and sub woofers work well with the new JVC unit and the ease with which I can plug in my music player makes using it a great experience. The unit hase a removable face, which is great to discourage theft or vandalism. Some of the other features (Bluetooth hookup, Sirius capability, Pandor capability, etc.) really add value to the JVC unit, f inthe future you would want to expand your use in the device.
      Pros:
      - Removable Face to take it anywhere with you - Front and rear USB ports for ease of accessability - Extra capabilities - Choice of colors in the display - Ease of installation
      Cons:
      - The Bluetooth cable out of the rear is not as long as the rear USB cable

      Quality HU

Written By Brandon, Wausau, WI on Thursday, June 14, 2012

Put inside a '97 Chevy K1500, and it looks SHARP! The variable color option practically allows you to create any color you want for display. However, there isn't really a certain color that eases your ability to see the display in the sunlight. This is a common problem with HU's, and is kinda expected. The menu navigation is probably the only "con" I can think of that is really a con and not just law of nature. Some options are buried to deep in the menu, that in certain circumstances would be nice; such as the LOUD option, the EQ's, and fade/balance. You also have to hold down the menu button for about 8 seconds in order to obtain the menu, which is a hassle while driving. I don't use the iPod control, I just plug my iPod into the rear aux cable ( neat to have tucked in and hidden when not used). I have had CD's skip, but I'm almost certain its the abused "burned" CD's and not the HU itself. Handles MP3 flashdrives like a champ. All in all, for the price its at, this is a sharp looking headunit that will complement just about any vehicle. Its simplistic look just seems to flow with any instrument panel. (OH! And being from WI, I bought this for the original purpose of being able to play CD's before the truck warms up in winter, which the stock CD player refused to do. Five seconds after I start the engine, she starts playing without a problem.) I recommend this to whomever it appeals.
      Pros:
Solid, color display, sharp looking, easy to build on (6 RCA channels)
      Cons:
Difficult to see display in direct sunlight, some menu navigation, mute button (big knob) can easily be activated when attempting to turn the volume up/down while off-roading or on bumpy streets

This is a great replacement for a factory unit. The rear USB cable is an awesome feature to me, I have it tucked in my glove box for later use. It makes it almost to the rear seat when extended. The sound quality is excellent and the display I guess is aimed towards younger people, with its variable color, but you can change it to be fixed to any shade you want. You can do the whole display, or just the left or right. The setting can get elaborate but fairly easy to navigate. Installed in a 01 Nissan Sentra SE with Sound package and built in amp. Factory radio, cd changer and speakers all were shot. Installed perfectly with the items supplied by Crutchfield. With the new inexpensive Pioneer speakers I put in as well this unit sounds great.
      Pros:
Easy Use, Easy Install, Great Sound. Rear USB cable++ Remote Control.
      Cons:
      None yet

After a couple months not happy

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Long time crutchfield customer. This is a unit that looks great on paper but after using it for a few months I am underwhelmed. I bought it primarily for the rear connect USB and iPod control. The iPod control is not particularly easy to navigate and is very slow if you have a lot of songs or artists. But the deal breaker is the display. Almost invisible in daylight and forget it if you are wearing sunglasses. I'm probably going to give this to one of my kids and place an order for a Sony or Alpine, and maybe give up the rear USB feature.
      Pros:
Radio, CD playback is fine. Navigates through MP3 CDs with ease.
      Cons:
Ipod control gets confused and is slow. Display unreadable in bright sunlight.

      Great deck for the price

Written By Jimmy, Florida on Saturday, March 10, 2012
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Two words: Rear USB. I love having my Ipod stashed away out of sight in the glove box again, with no wires or cords hanging down from the dash. The Ipod controls on the KD-R720 work great and are very easy to operate. My Ipod has over 4,000 songs on it and it only took a few seconds for the deck to recognize my Ipod and start playing it. If you use an Ipod, this is the deck to buy. The sound quality is amazing, the 720 has good controls over the bass, mids and treble, and the pre-set EQ curves sound good too. I think the Loudness feature gives the 720 an advantage in sound quality compared to other decks that only have a bass boost. Loudness boosts not only the low frequencies but it also boosts the highs too, which makes the 720 sound better. The tuner works very well too, it takes a little time getting used to not having preset buttons, but you can use the up/down preset station selector buttons to move through your presets pretty quickly to get to the station you want. Others have said the display is too dim in sunlight, I have not had that problem, but I have tinted windows, which probably helps with the display. I like being able to match the 720's lights to match the color of my dash lights. I have it set to all Green, but there are a lot of other colors and combinations available. The 720's larger volume knob with a rubber outer grip on it is much easier to use than the volume knob on my previous deck, its volume knob was too small and had a very slippery feel to it.
      Pros:
Outstanding sound quality, great Ipod integration and Ipod control. Variable lighting that will match any dash lighting color. This deck is very easy to operate and I think the ergonomics are very well thought out. The 720 has much better tone and sound control than some other brands. The owner's manual is written very well and is easy to understand. As always, Crutchfield had a great price on it, and I do appreciate the free shipping very much. The 720 is awesome and so is Crutchfield!
      Cons:
None, other than the fact that I did not buy this deck first. I had another brand before that was good in the beginning but turned out to be just OK. The JVC KD-R720 is a much better deck and a much better value. I only wish I had bought it sooner.

The new deck is very cool. I got it for my girlfriend for christmas and she loves it. Front and rear USB is nice, I only use the back one atm, when i get the bluetooth adapter i will start using the front one for ipod. The colors are very cool, you can set it to flow through all the colors at 3 different speeds, or set it to any of 30 colors on both the screen or buttons. There are only 5 or 10 colors worth using but its great looking.
      Pros:
      Lighting, Aesthetic quality, Price.
      Cons:
Flimsy mounting bracket causes some play when pressing buttons, remedied with a zip tie behind the dash.

Great upgrade for the price. I really like the the ProEQ settings that allow you to tweak the sound to your taste. iPod/iPhone interface is easy and quick to get started. App mode works like a champ with Pandora and other apps.
      Pros:
Front and rear USB. iPod/iPhone control. Adjustable display color to suit your taste.
      Cons:
Easy to use but keep the book handy for a couple of days.

The only thing I'd really change about this unit is that the power button doesn't stay lit when key is off... it's so tiny, and in the dark my fat fingers can't really feel it. Truly, that's the worst thing I can say about it. My other main wish is that I could understand the various settings for the bass/mid/treb in the "Pro EQ" feature, but I expect some internet searching will reveal the answers.

I'm surprised by how many features this unit has crammed into a single-DIN. So far the iPod control has been flawless for our MP3s. I love that I can leave the iPod in the glove box.
      Pros:
Features for the price. Rear USB with iPod control builtin. Awesome sound quality. Powerful amp. Wife loves remote and flowing colors (ok I like the colors too).
      Cons:
Hard to find that power button at night. Not sure I'm getting all of the lows to my subwoofer. Some of the "Pro EQ" settings are not explained in the manual.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

      The good:

The install is dead simple with everything else Crutchfield provides. It took less than an hour to install into a 2004 Dodge Ram.

It works well for getting audio from an iPod or iPhone. It will also work with an iPad if you're so inclined. I've used it with an iPod video, iPad, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4S. It will take audio from anything on an iOS device in App mode, which works well for things like turn-by-turn GPS.

The second USB port is nice if you want to throw an iPod in the glove box and forget it, or you have a setup where you don't want a cable coming out of the dash.

Pandora integration is fairly good if you've got an iOS device.

The split custom color feature does let you adjust it to fit your preference somewhat.

      The bad:

The display is not nearly as bright as the stock Chrysler radio it replaced. The LCD portion gets washed out in direct sunlight fairly easily.

The "iPod Switch" mode is not as automatic as it could be, particularly when running Pandora (though this may be somewhat Apple's fault too). If Pandora is running in the foreground, it will switch to Pandora mode. If you're juggling Pandora and a GPS app, whenever Pandora backgrounds the unit switches to App mode and will no longer display track data or let you use buttons on the head unit to skip and rate. There's several other actions that can cause it to switch from "iPod" or "Head Unit" into App mode as well, and it won't automatically switch back. If you switch frequently between the iPhone's music library and Pandora or other apps, it's several clicks on the menu to reset it back.

Service was good along with troubleshooting and the unit performs fairly well, however the ergonomics are not great. Menus are buried to perform simple tasks, which requires you take your eyes off the road much more than a conventional layout of buttons would provide. The tuner station buttons missing was a poor decision as well. Button size is also very small and are close together. The statement: 'Form Follows Function' was for a very good reason.
