Polk Audio

Why replace your factory speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Our take on the Polk db675

by Todd Cabell

Polk built the db Series speakers to deliver the powerful, detailed sound of premium speakers, but without the big price tag! And check out the cutting-edge looks — textured woofer cones and MOMO-inspired, wheel-style grilles add the right touch if you're customizing your ride.

The db675 6-3/4" speaker combines a polymer/mica composite woofer with a rubber surround to keep the midbass crisp and clean. You'll enjoy the smooth high-frequency reproduction of the liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite 1" dome tweeter. And, instead of the high-pass filter found in most car speakers, a built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging.

Don't limit yourself to only using these speakers in your car — they've passed tough environmental testing that certifies them for marine use as well.

Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-3/4" speakers (pair)
  • polymer/mica composite woofer with butyl rubber surround
  • liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite 1" dome tweeter
  • suitable for marine use
  • 2-way crossover network

    Features

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Marine Certified: Polk db Series speakers are built to withstand exposure to moisture and UV rays, so they work well in boats and cars.

Woofer Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance polymer/mica composite mineral-filled cone. The cones are stiff and lightweight for big sound and low distortion.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use butyl rubber surrounds.

Silk/Polymer Composite Tweeters: The speakers feature 1" liquid-cooled silk/polymer composite tweeters for clearer, more accurate highs.

2-way Crossover Network: The built-in 2-way crossover network sends the appropriate frequencies to each driver for cleaner sound and better imaging.

Grilles: The titanium-colored ABS plastic grilles are computer optimized and based on exclusive MOMO designs.

    Great

Written By Robert, St. Joseph, MI on Saturday, April 07, 2007

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

LOVE THEM!!! These speakers are very warm and rich sounding. Excellent highs and mids, and you can even get enough bass from them to make you have second thoughts about installing a sub. I'm running four of them on a 4 channel amp at 50W RMS and the sound is great. Vocals are clear and clean and stringed instruments seem to jump of the CD into the car with you. This was my first Polk purchase, and after having these, it won't be my last.

    Polks rock again!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow, keep wondering why I keep going back to Polks. I absolutely have not been let down by their sound reproduction no matter what type of music I am listening to. Crystal clear sound reporduction, from descent bass to crystal clear highs. Installed these in the rear doors of my Dodge Megacab reproducing sounds through the source units amp, Kenwood Excellon deck. Sound is awesome and is exactly what I was looking for.
I have tried just about every manufacturerer out there over years of doing stereo installs as a youth and just can not find a reason to justify cost of more expensive speakers for general use. Heck give these more power and they will be right there.
Install was easy and Crutchfield instructions were great. Crutchfields price and support is a plus too!!

    Good speakers

Put these in a 2000 gmc sierra along with the blaupunkt MP35. Not sure if its the radio or the speakers but you have to crank it up to lvl 40. They sound great so far. Minor issue with installation is that they don't exactly FIT the factory openings properly. If you tighten the screws down too much the
back of the speaker touches the sides of the hole and can affect the speaker. hardest part was re-drilling. i am curious to see if these can handle the output from a m-44 amp. Definitely need subwoofers. but for the price and ease of install. these are much better than factory speakers. gonna try 2-10" MTX thunders (if i can figure out how to hook them up)

    Great for the price

Written By CamaroGuy, Sacramento, CA on Sunday, December 24, 2006

These speakers definately get the job done. I've had mine for over a year now, they've lasted through my last deck getting stolen and are now hooked up to a Kenwood Excelon X590. They sound great, you have to do a little tweaking with your deck EQ but they are a night and day difference over factory speakers. Bass response isn't too bad, but a sub is still recommended of course

    Detailed reviews with comparissons!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I see soo many reviews everywhere for all size speakers with all different opinions so its like what choice do you make so im going to get extremely detailed. I compared these speakers with 3 other brands, Infinifty kappa, alpine type s, and pioneers. ill break it down into 4 catagorys, Overall, highs, mids, lows. Overall i'd say I like these the best and here is why, I was able to crank(louder) without distortion and bottoming out, these more than all other brands next was alpine then infinity then pioneer. Highs were tighter with alpine then pioneer then these polks then kappas. Midbass is deffinantly the best with these polks which is ultimately why you get them not the lows really. next would be pioneer then alpine then infinity. Lows which you shouldnt really expect from these small speakers but ill add a note anyway on them, For lows these speakers were the worst!! The kappas produce a very large amount for a 63/4 i was impressed. But im not dissapointed in the polks which is why i still give it a 4 since its made for mids and highs.alpine was third and pioneer last. so overall again a 4 star rating because it will add nice midbass that you can crank hard without distortion and fairly clear highs that arent as loud as the other brands but decent enough and add a bigger amp theyd sound good. overall id get these unless there was a nice sale on alpine id get them because I love my tight clean highs. So if you want the midbass and decent highs with crank ability get these nice speakers@!

    Very Bright

Written By David, Fort Worth, TX on Monday, October 02, 2006
Installed in a 1999 Saturn SL
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in a 99 Saturn. In the past I had to crank the treble knob on the factory stereo all the way up just to get the factory speakers to sound like they weren't underwater. When I replaced the factory speakers with these, the factory stereo was unlistenable. Even with the treble knob all the way down they were way too bright.

Fortunately, I was also replacing the head unit with one with a customizable equilizer. By careful tuning, I have balanced them where they sound great with either the windows up or down. They are bright enough to cut through any wind noise and powerful enough to give a light kick without a sub.

They take a bit of tweaking, but they are definately worth it.

    Polk db675

Written By Anonymous, Chicago, IL on Tuesday, September 19, 2006
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Polkdb675 was a great choice when upgrading the factory speakers in a '00 Corolla. They are paired with Polk db650's, an Alpine cda-9851 and Bazooka bta-8200. The sound is crisp, clear, and unmuffled at higher volumes...unlike the muddy sounds you get from the factory paper speakers! The bass output of the db675 is adequate when not using a subwoofer, but would definitally recommend one to experience the full depth of your music.

Side note: Although the db675's will eventually fit a '00 toyota corolla, it does require enlarging the factory speaker hole...but well worth the extra work!

I got these speakers for my 94 camry sedan. They are powered by my panasonic head unit and they definetly sound alot better than stock. Sound is clear and crisp and the bass does a pretty good job shakin my side view mirrors. Crutchfields customer service was great, speakers got here very fast. Best 6.75 speakers in my opinion.

    more bass then you'd expect

Written By randy, Catlettsburg, KY on Thursday, September 14, 2006
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are just what my GMC Sierra needed. They produce more bass then you'd expect for a 6 3/4". They produce nice clean sound and compliment the db400's in the back perfectly. My only complaint was that the instructions Crutchfield sent only included power windows removal. It took me awhile to figure out that their was a clip to hold on the window handle. Also, it does fit but it takes a little persuasion. I think a 6 1/2 would probably be the better pick. Other than that they are great speakers for the money. You will NOT be disappointed.

    Excellent!

Written By Mark, Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Excellent Speakers. Installed in a 1998 Saturn SL2 with 236,000 miles. The original speakers seemed pretty good. I sure spent a lot of time with them as you can see by the miles the car has seen. Step son started driving and needed a car to drive for awhile until he got one. He blew the speakers in the car. Time for new ones.
Did research and Polk always had great ratings. With the the buy one pair get the second pair offer I couldn't resist. Took awhile to get used to the sound of the new speakers. OEM stereo has 6 channel equalizer. Had found what sounded good with the OEM speakers. Had to go back to flat setting.
Only problem is these speakers handle so much more power that the OEM head unit does not provide enough power. Have just ordered new head unit to fix that problem.
Sound great. Great price. Took about two hours to replace both front and back speakers. Not bad for a beginner. Instructions from Crutchfield were great.
Highly recommend these speakers. Great value. I didn't use the grills but they looked nice. Every thing was very high quality.

Can't go wrong with these speakers from Crutchfield!

No more speakers for me...these will be the last I purchase for my 93 Z28. These are freaking awesome. Great highs with good bass to compliment. I'm running these with a Blaupunkt Orland CD72 and an Alpine MRV-F352 and they're absolutely amazing. The only complaint I get...they shake the speaker baskets too much ;). Definitely some of the best speakers around.

    The Best Out

Written By Robert, Maryland on Wednesday, June 21, 2006
    Installed in a 1997 Saturn SL1
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These have to be the best speakers out, period!!!! Just installed these the other day and the sound is immaculate. I used these to replace two pairs of audiobahn speakers that crapped out. After installing them, which took at the most an hour, they worked wonders, now I know what music is supposed to sound like. The highs are clean and crisp and the lows are punchy, giving my music full sound, whether it is rap, rock or heavy metal. These are a must have for any true audiophile.

Oh yeah, by the way, Crutchfield has the best customer service. One of the speakers were damaged during install, so after calling Crutchfield and notifying them, I received a brand new pair the very next day. Crutchfield is the best!!!!!

Excellent speakers! I replaced the rear OEM speakers in my 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo with these and I am powering them with the stock cd/tape/3 band Eq stereo. They have excellent bass, mids and highs. I am going to buy a set of polk audio db 650's for the front. I also put a sound proofing material around the speaker holes. You have to drill 4 holes to mount them. I highly recommend these speakers.

Awesome sound. Big improvement over the factory speakers. They dropped into the rear-deck on my '00 Sentra without any modification and are being powered by an Alpine 26w x 4ch RMS headunit. I have them cutoff at 120Hz on the low end since I have a 12" subwoofer in the trunk.

I just put four of these in my 1996 Saturn SL-1 sedan; installation was a breeze, got it done during my lunch hour at work. As for the speakers themselves, I can't recommend them enough. These speakers have wonderful range, the mids and highs are very clear and present without sounding harsh. With all four of these the bass is very powerful and not muddy at all. They sound better and better at higher volumes - even off my Sony head unit at about 20W per speaker, with no dedicated amp or sub the sound quality is very good. Plus they are very sexy looking. Don't debate, get them now! Best speaker in their price range.

A Sweet Sounding Replacement for your Factory Speakers

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My first experience with Polk speakers was back in 1997. After buying 4 different brands of speakers (and returning them), I bought a set of Polks (similar to these that were truly amazing in sound quality). Fast-Forward... I now have polks in both of my cars.. I have two pairs of these db675's in my wifes car, she thought I'd added an amplifier when she heard them for the first time!! For my second car I purchased the Polk 6.75" component set, and the are just as stunning!! You won't go wrong with Polk Speakers...I won't even consider other speaker brands in my cars.

The only reason I didn't give these speakers 5 stars is because of the highs. When you turn these up the tweeters are WAY too crisp and almost sound like static. Other than that the bass is excellent and sounds like I have a 8 or 10" sub. Overall a great buy especially when the second pair is half off.
