Features

Overview: The Pocketfinder Personal GPS Locator, from Location Based Technology (LBT), is a GPS tracking device that provides real-time location information for the person or object you wish to track. The unit lets you know where it is at any time through the Pocketfinder website or on your smartphone through a free mobile app. The device can be used to help locate your child, pet, or an elderly person. It can also be used with luggage, or on a boat, motorcycle, or other motorized vehicle.

Usage: The device is designed to be carried or worn by the person you wish to keep up with. It is small enough to be carried in a pocket. With the included rubberized case and clips, the device can be clipped to clothing or a backpack, or worn on a belt. The case further protects the unit from the elements for better reliability and longer life.

How It Works: The Personal GPS Locator utilizes the latest in Assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology. Motion sensors are used to provide location updates every 1, 3, or 5 minutes (you select the interval), and is accurate to within 10 feet. The device is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, and comes with a charging base. Typically, a charge lasts 3-4 days. The location, heading, and speed data can be pinpointed on Google Premier mapping, available on the Pocketfinder website, or on a free mobile app on iOS, Blackberry, and Android devices.

Advanced Features: The Pocketfinder Personal GPS Locator has the following features:

Geo-Fence: You can set up an unlimited number of geo-fence zones. You will receive alerts when the device enters the zone, exits the zone, or both.
Speed Limits: If used in a vehicle, you can set a speed limit for the vehicle. If the vehicle exceeds the set speed limit, you will receive an alert.
Alerts: Alerts can be received via email, SMS (text message), or push notifications.
History: You can view up to 60 days of detailed location history

Your Account: A contract-free subscription is required (currently $12.95 per month) for each device. The plan includes unlimited location lookups and emergency contacts, as well as email alerts, SMS (text message) alerts, iOS push notifications, access to the device's 60-day history, unlimited zones and speed alerts, and storage for medical and emergency information and photos. The subscription covers the United States and Canada. International coverage is also available. Multiple devices can be managed in one account using the website or mobile apps.

The pocketfinder device is very cool and easy to use. I received the device as a gift and have been using it ever since. Basically i just charge the device over night and take it with me the next day or give it to my mom or sister if they are going out of town. Ive set up zone and speed alerts by text to better track my pocketfinder. The device has a app also for cell phones it works great when your on the run and cant log in from a computer to view the history, location even set up instant zones.

Pros:

Great for tracking anything or locating loved ones.

Cons:

Sometimes wont locate when hidden in trunk or glove box.

My Child got on the wrong bus!

I have a son in the 2nd grade who, for the first time, is taking the bus to school and we wanted something extra to ensure he got home safely each day. So we purchased a PocketFinder tracker. It is really cool seeing where he's at from my iPad but became invaluable when this week my son got on the wrong bus. I receive a text each day when he leaves school and on Tuesday saw one update after another going in the wrong direction. I immediately called his school and after a few minutes of relaying the street names that the bus was driving on they were able to figure out which bus Jacob was on and contact the driver. This product is now a must for my wife and I and I highly recommend it.

Pros:

Know where your child is at any time. Text messages when they leave school and arrive at home.

Cons:

None so far.

Not great.

When it works, it works. It's great. I have it for my kid so it's not that great. I love that you can make zones and if the child leaves the zone, you will get an alert. But here's the deal. Sometimes you get an alert for no reason. I have it set that if my child leaves school (set zone) between hrs of 8-3, it texts me. So I get a text she left and is a block from the school. I can see where on the handy dandy satellite map. Then, it shows her in a cornfield about 150 yards from the school in the other direction. Wth? So by this time, I'm a little concerned and call the school sounding like an overprotective idiot because the office person went down to check on her and she's sitting in class. With her gps in her book bag. I was pretty much done with it at this point. It's also texted me that it's left home zone at least 8 times in the past month while it's sitting on the charger. So, it's not worth it yet. Not til they get the bugs figured out.

Pros:

This would be great for a dog that tends to run off. If you are one of those ppl who have pets for children and they like to shoot out the door, by all means this is a good investment.

Cons:

Bad for parents. All it does is create anxiety where it was not there before. My child is 7. Perhaps this would be of more use when she's 16 and I can catch her where she isn't supposed to be but for now, not necessary and I would like to return it.
