You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system. Our take on the Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack by Zak Billmeier The KTP-445 connects to any 2005 and newer Alpine headunit that uses a black power harness. It will not work with the CDE-100 receiver. Want a simple way to kick up the power of your Alpine receiver? Alpine's "Power Pack" amplifier increases your receiver's power output to 45 watts RMS power by 4 channels — plenty of power to drive high-performance speakers or keep up with a big subwoofer amplifier. Best of all, you install the compact Power Pack by plugging it directly into your Alpine receiver's wire harness — no extra wires to run, and no other connections needed. Note: The KTP-445 Power Pack won't work in systems where an outboard factory amplifier is still active. You'll have to bypass the factory amp if you want to upgrade your power with the KTP-445. Features Overview: The Alpine KTP-445 Head Unit Power Pack is an easy-to-install power upgrade amplifier that allows you to add higher output and more dynamic response to your Alpine headunit. The KTP-445 amplifies your Alpine headunit's power output, resulting in a 150 percent power increase over the original power from the headunit's built-in amplifier. Compatibility: The KTP-445 connects to any 2005 and newer Alpine headunit that has a black power harness. Please check with your Crutchfield Product Advisor to confirm compatibility. Installation: Since the KTP-445 is small and compact, it installs behind your Alpine headunit in the dash of most vehicles. Its plug-and-play connections keep it simple, without requiring additional wiring or special tuning. The male harness connects to the rear plug on your Alpine headunit while the female harness plugs into your Alpine headunit's harness (included with your Alpine headunit). Then connect the wires from the Alpine headunit's harness to your factory harness adapter (sold separately). Note: The factory radio circuit needs to be a minimum of 15A. If it is not, a separate power and ground will need to be installed for the KTP-445. Controls: A high/low gain switch on the bottom of the amplifier allows for proper gain settings, whether or not a subwoofer is part of the system. This amplifier was installed in my 2005 Wrangler to make it possible to hear my stereo in the summer when the top will come off. I bought this amp because of the alpine head unit I purchased and the stated plug n play installation. It went even smoother than stated. The 4 channels at 45 watts are more than sufficient to power the set of infinity speakers in my jeep. The sound is crystal clear. The small size made it possible to install this amp behind my dash where it is totally out of sight because if you have a jeep you know that space is extremely scarce especially as the size of the system itself grows and we all know about that !!! As the title says, make sure this is the amp you need. The connector on this unit only fits alpine units with the black connector, and not the gray. I thought since my receiver was new enough that it would fit. Wrong ! you will end up having to wire it manually just like you would the 445U. Also this unit has less advanced controls then the the 445U Personally i dont see why any one would get this unit any more, especially if they have the gray harness connectors. Pros: Same wattage as 445U, Quick Connect if you have black connectors. Cons: Less audio controls, more wire splicing if your using gray connectors or non-alpine deck. Was this review helpful? Great amp for the price and ease of install. Have an amped sub and an Alpine CDE-123 in my '07 Odyssey and this helps the other speakers fill in the mids and highs. Install note: Definitely needs power to come from the battery. Had this hooked up to the power provided to the factory radio and sounded puny. Yes | No 1 out of 5 Mine must have issues Written By John, San Jose, CA on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 Yes, it was easy to install, and yes, it makes my speakers sound better. The bad part is when I leave my truck in the sun all day at work, I get no sound from the stereo until the A/C has a chance to cool the amp off. Then speakers come back about 1 every 5 minutes, or just about as long as it takes me to get home. Of course I'd have to take it out again to have it serviced. Not worth the trouble for the cost. I'll continue to park in the shade and get leaves, pollen, and bird poop all over my truck. Was this review helpful? I can probably take apart my dash and system blindfolded by now, but doesn't take away the fact that this thing is extremely easy to install. Literally just plug it in between stereo and cars wire harness stick it behind dash and your good to go. The wires are long enough to find somewhere behind the dash to mount it although I was able to pack it right behind the head unit. Connected to HD137BT, the amp provides a nice boost from just the head unit. and loud enough so you can't hear your passenger talking when turned up. For those looking for a an easy to install boost in volume/clarity, this is a no-brainer. 5 out of 5 Great little amp Written By Birdsquare, Louisville, KY on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Great amp for the price and ease of install. Have an amped sub and an Alpine CDE-123 in my '07 Odyssey and this helps the other speakers fill in the mids and highs. Install note: Definitely needs power to come from the battery. Had this hooked up to the power provided to the factory radio and sounded puny. Ran fused wire direct to battery and it made a HUGE difference. Sounds nice and full up to as loud as I can stand it. Pros: Size, ease of install, cost Cons: Probably damaging my ears 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No
1 out of 5 Mine must have issues Written By John, San Jose, CA on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 Yes, it was easy to install, and yes, it makes my speakers sound better. Yes | No
5 out of 5 Alpine Power pack Written By Brian G, Plainville, CT on Friday, May 18, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I can probably take apart my dash and system blindfolded by now, but doesn't take away the fact that this thing is extremely easy to install. Pros: Too easy to install Compact Nice boost in volume/clarity No need to run separate power/remote/speaker wires Cons: If you understand what you are getting, there are no cons. Maybe include second set of shorter wires? 1 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No
