Woofers
Tri-Tech
Woofer Cones: The Tri-Tech
woofer cones are constructed of woven carbon-poly, Rohacell foam, and
carbon-poly backings, for outstanding power handling and performance. The cones
are very light and very strong, providing extended frequency response.
Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The woofers use butyl rubber
surrounds. Butyl rubber
efficiently absorbs edge reflections that can cause audible distortion,
resulting in clearer bass performance. The thickness of each surround varies in
a way that provides high linearity and a balanced driver system.
Z-Wave Spider Design: This
unique spider design incorporates two complimentary shaped waves, providing
better control over non-linear motion in the driver system.
Aluminum Ribbon Voice Coils:
Each woofer has an edgewound copper clad aluminum ribbon voice coil. This very
efficient voice coil design provides high coil winding density and increases
thermal transfer from the voice coil to the motor structure for high power
handling and low power compression.
Balanced Coil Construction: The
voice coil diameter and mass are engineered specifically to work with the driver
system and provide an extremely linear and balanced response.
Magnet Boots: Each speaker
features a magnet boot, which is removable for installation flexibility. With
the magnet boots installed, the top-mount depth increases from 2.357" to
2.669", while the magnet diameter remains unchanged.
Note: The measurements in the
Crutchfield database were taken with the magnet boots removed.
Adapter Brackets: The
adapter brackets allow the woofers to be top-mounted in 6"x8"
openings.
Tweeters
Tetoron Dome Tweeters: The
1-3/16" dome tweeters are made from ultra-light Tetoron film, for smooth,
precise dispersion of the high frequencies.
Dual Neo Magnets: Top and bottom magnets provide a
reduction in overall tweeter size while creating a stronger magnetic field for
superior clarity and detail.
Copper Clad Aluminum Voice Coils:
The copper clad aluminum voice coils increase efficiency and thermal dissipation
for high power handling.
Ferro-Fluid Cooled Voice Coils:
In each tweeter, the Ferro-fluid cooled voice coil enhances the thermal
transfer from the voice coil to the motor structure for high power handling and
low power compression.
Vented Inner Motor Systems: The
chamber under each tweeter dome is vented to minimize dome distortion.
Foam Dispersion and Control Plugs:
The foam dispersion and control plug behind each tweeter controls reflected
energy and balances air pressure in the tweeter dome. This increases the overall
dome strength during operation.
Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters may be flush
mounted with or without the supplied angle rings.

Tweeter Mounting Posts: In
addition to standard tweeter mounting options, an innovative tweeter mounting
post lets you mount the tweeter directly to the center of the midrange, giving
you a standard coaxial speaker. When the tweeter is attached
to the midrange, the speaker mounting height increases from 0.431" to 0.948".
Crossovers
2-Way Crossover Network:
Each crossover features a 24 dB/octave, 2.8 kHz high-pass filter for the tweeters and
a 12 dB/octave, 2.8 kHz low-pass filter for the woofers.
Air Core Inductors: The air
core inductors provide high power handling.
Mylar Film Filter Capacitors:
Each crossover uses Mylar film filter capacitors for smooth, extended high
frequency response.
3-Position Tweeter Attenuators: There is a
switch located on each crossover
circuit board that allows you to select one of the following tweeter attenuation
settings: 0 dB, +1.5 dB, or +3 dB. This feature allows you to match the tweeter output level with the woofer output
level for a balanced response.
Zobel Impedance Compensation:
This feature provides more linear response across the operating range and
prevents crossover point shift by correcting impedance rise.
Illuminated Protection Circuits:
This circuit protects the tweeters from excessive amplifier power and amplifier
clipping.
Input/Output Connections: The
crossover inputs and outputs are gold-plated set-screw terminals.
Mounting: There are two
mounting holes in the base of each crossover.
Dimensions: W=5.621", H=1.727", D=5.621"
Mounting
Note
Mounting Options: These
speakers can be mounted as separate components or as coaxial speakers. In both
cases, the woofers can be mounted with or without the grilles. The Crutchfield
database contains the measurements of the woofers mounted as separate components
and without the grilles. When the speakers are mounted as coaxial speakers
without the grilles, the woofer mounting height increases from 0.431" to
0.948", but all other measurements remain unchanged.
