An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. Just install PAC's uPAC-SB1 iPod adapter — it not only allows you to listen to all your favorite tunes through your car's speakers, it even lets you control song and playlist selections right from your radio.

You'll keep the use of your satellite radio, plus get a handy auxiliary input for connecting an MP3 player, game, or other source.

Note: Your Subaru radio must have a "SAT" button to work with this adapter. Factory radio must not be an AM/FM/6-disc in-dash changer. Be sure to check the "Hands On Research" tab to make sure this interface will work with your iPod.

Features

Overview: The uPAC-SB1 interface is a multi-input media device compatible with select Subaru radios that are equipped with an SAT button. The 2 inputs will support any of the following combinations: iPod/Auxiliary, iPod/HD Radio (HD Radio tuner sold separately) or Auxiliary/HD Radio (HD Radio tuner sold separately). The optional HD Radio tuner is part number uPAC-HDRT. The iPod input can be used with full control from the radio or full control from the iPod. The uPAC-SUB1 also fully retains factory installed Satellite Radio and Rear Seat Entertainment Systems.

Vehicle Compatibility: The uPAC-HY2 is compatible with select 2008-up Subaru vehicle's that feature a factory radio with a "SAT" button.

iPod/iPhone Compatibility: The uPAC-SB1 features an Apple iPod dock connector for connecting select iPod's or iPhones to your 2008-up Subaru factory radio (with "SAT" button). The connected iPod can be operated from the factory radio or steering wheel controls, as well as from the iPod's clickwheel or touchscreen. The uPAC-SB1 supports iPod/iPhone audio playback, control (Play/Pause/Skip/Search), browsing (Playlist/Artist/Genre/Album/Composer), display information (Song/Artist), and charging. The PAC uPAC-SB1 is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features when connected to a compatible Subaru factory radio as of October 2011.

Auxiliary Input: The uPAC-SB1 features a female stereo RCA input and a right-angle male 3.5mm stereo minijack connector for connecting an external source such as a portable digital audio player or the optional HD Radio tuner (uPAC-HDRT, sold separately).

Purchased this product for a 2010 Forester. Installation instructions were fairly clear; overall process was easy. Slight confusion about how/where to plug everything together -- important to note that not all the ends get plugged into something... (Thanks you, Devin in Crutchfield tech support!)Finished product does not operate exactly per the instruction cards included with kit, but overall, I'm very happy with it. Much easier than the previous AUX cable location/method.
Pros:
Easier control of iPod, better sound quality, better iPod location/arrangement
Cons:
Somewhat unclear instructions, inaccurate operational instruction cards.
