Monster HDTV Calibration Wizard

If the TOC inside the cover was on the cover, I would not have bought this DVD. Because other than setting the contrast, brightness, color, and sharpness it has no other capability. There are absolutely no patterns of any kind to do even an intermediate level adjustments, let alone any kind of "Professional ISF Standard" level settings ! It was a total waste of money for me. For the record, I did not buy this item from Crutchfield. As such I do to wish to fault them in any way.

Pros:

Extremely simple.

Cons:

Very misleading use of ISF, Monster names. Nothing professional about it. TOC should be on the outside for all to see. It gives ISF a bad name by stating it calibrates to their standards.

I'm not a TV set-up specialist, & this disc isn't either. Absolutely not worth the price. My Samsung worked better AFTER I returned to ALL factory settings. This was a waste of money. I now have a DVD that is a wind chime decoration.

Of marginal utility

I bought this disk to assist setup of a new Sony HDTV. It helped in setting up optimum brightness and contrast levels (going back and forth between an image of a guy in a black shirt under a black blazer, and a guy in a bright white shirt with white buttons). Fiddling the TV settings a bit really did improve the detail level visible. But most of the other stuff on the disk was either available in Crutchfield's free on-line guidance for HD setup (turn off the "vivid" setting is the most important advice), or was somewhere between silly and annoying (music video). No guidance is provided on sound system setup. Not worth much on non-HD TVs, either. This should be a $10 item at most.

This is the only product of this type that I have used so I have nothing to compare it too. However, the customized settings made with it resulted in a noticeable improvement in picture quality compaired to any of the OEM preset options.

I found the disc effective, but it could be improved for seniors in particular:

1. It didn't tell you what "Picture Preset" to use for the setup, i.e., VIVID, STANDARD, or CINAMA, which are typical of HDTV. I used VIVID, since that gives the most contrast & color definition.
2. I am somewhat hard of hearing, and even though Jenna Drey is very pleasant to look at, I had difficulty understanding some of her instructions. A male narrator or subtitles would be helpful.

If you have absolutely, and I mean absolutely no knowledge about how to do anything with your tv's menus and manual, then you might just find this
disc minimally useful. Otherwise, don't waste your money as it provides nothing, and I mean nothing that you will not be able to accomplish using
your manual and the menus that are available on your tv. The worst part is that the Crutchfield sales rep with whom I spoke told me that he had used
it and that it was the best product out there. I took his recommendation, big mistake, although I also have to give credit where it is due and say this
has never happened to me at Crutchfield.....a rep giving a really, really poor recommendation. I agree with some of the other reviews, didn't really intend to spend my money on watching a really poor video featuring what I consider to be really sub-standard talent. My first moment of angst was when I saw the quality of the video of the Head Monster.....not even good standard def.....and it got worse from there. Believe me, this isn't worth it and now I know I won't be investing in any more "Monster" products.

I agree with John, this was not usefull for me at all . I did not enjoy the fact that I had paid to see this woman's "new" music video. This disc was a waste of money. I had done just as well with my TV manual. This was not best $30 bucks spent on my HDTV. Not recommended!!!!

After over 3-weeks of HD-TV owners, if I didn't make this purchase, I'd still
be sitting in front of my new Toshiba, remote in one hand, owners manual
in the other, trying to read and adjust at the same time, to get THE perfect
picture that this Monster DVD helped me get after running it just ONE time!
Do yourself a favor and save yourself some time and frustration, spend the
$30 to get this DVD!

Set-up disk

Using the set-up disk was fast and easy. I didn't think it made VAST differences in the picture but it did make noticable differences. Overall, I am happy that I purchased the disk. After all, we spend all that money for an LCD or plasma flat screen, the additional cost of the set-up disk is a good investment.

Let's say, that the disk was very colorful!
Also I could say, that it was to fast to do a heck-of-lot with.
I may run it again in a few days, not sure.
But was it worth the money? NO.
Would I buy another? NO.
But I must say!! I like all the other equipment I have ordered.

When I received my wizard, I was anxious to play it immediately. I found that most of the steps that were on the DVD, I had a little knowledge of, however, it was so reassuring, and easy to follow. I recommend this product for anyone.

I recently purchased a 47" LCD HDTV. I hooked it up to my home theater system and set the TV's settings to what gave me a good picture, but of course I wondered if the use of a setup disc such as Monster's HDTV Calibration disc would help yield a better picture in any way. After using the disc, one thing I can say is that the settings I had picked before actually using the setup disc were pretty close on some of the settings, but using the disc helped me fine tune the picture so that I was able to see more detail in the blacks of the picture and also helped me obtain a very natural balance to the colors of the picture. For $30, I would consider it a worthwhile investment if you're even slightly curious as to if you are getting the best picture you can get out of your HDTV. This is a inexpensive and useful tool for setup and adjustment purposes.

Get this product! It made a world of difference in the quality of the picture. I thought I had it "dialed in" but even the slightest changes from my original settings made a huge difference and really enhanced the picture quality. CD content is a little "cheesy", especially the video at the end, but I guess it really doesn't matter if it works! After the adjustments were made my first thought was "is that all?" (maybe a little overpriced?) but in the end, I have really enjoyed my HDTV even more and recommend this product!

Disk helped bring out the very best black and white ratio and did an overall good job. My only gripe is the price. They could leave the Extras off and sell it at half price I would give it a 5 as is it don't rate over a 3 at the most for my part.
