    Overview: The Night Guard Home Surveillance System (NG-100) helps to protect you, your family, and your home. The Night Guard  NG-100 is a state-of-the-art, outdoor motion-sensitive system for use in residential or commercial applications. The system features a unique motorized lamp and detection circuit that automatically rotates to cover an area of up to 30' in a 200° radius. It also enables the user to monitor, record and play back video or still image footage on any Windows PC. The Night Guard Home Surveillance System lets you install one to four of the combination motion sensor light & video cameras (767NGSL1, sold separately) on your home and the built-in infrared sensors allow the light and camera to rotate 200°, covering the same area as three fixed lights/cameras. You can record images from up to four Night Guard Home Surveillance Systems to any Windows based PC without any service plans or fees. The Night Guard Home Surveillance System includes one sensor light & camera assembly (NG-SL-1), one wireless USB receiver (NG-USB-R1) and Software Installation Disc, along with mounting and installation hardware.

    Note: The Night Guard Home Surveillance System is a personal home-monitoring system that requires no service plan.

    Sensor Light & Camera Unit: The Sensor Light & Camera Unit features a motion-activated 150-watt halogen light and built-in camera which operate both day and night. 3 infrared sensors allow the camera & light to track movement at up to 30' in a 200° radius. The built-in camera will display still-images and video onto your PC via a wireless 2.4GHz connection, using the supplied USB receiver. The Sensor Light & Camera Unit provides adjustable brightness, saturation, and color.

    Note: The sensor light has a passive infra-red system with three sensors. One sensor points straight out, one to the right, and one to the left. These sensors detect movement from a heat signature given off from all forms of life and moving objects. Be careful not to mount the sensor lamp near items that move normally as they may unintentionally trigger the system. This would include a close tree that may move in front of the sensor during a heavy wind. Any moving object has the potential of triggering the system. This is not necessarily a problem but if the system is set to auto record you may have additional files that have been recorded of a tree blowing in the wind.

    Wireless USB Receiver: The wireless USB receiver plugs into your Windows-based PC. The USB receiver provides a digital 2.4GHz wireless connection between your PC and the security system's Sensor Light & Camera Unit. This allows video and still-images detected by the Sensor Light & Camera Unit to be sent wirelessly to your computer. The wireless USB receiver has a transmission range of 250' from the Sensor Light & Camera Unit.

    Note: The wireless USB receiver must remain in the same USB port on your computer. If it is removed or changed to a different USB port, the software installation process will have to be done over. And additional wireless USB receiver (767NGUSBR1, sold separately) can be purchased to connect to a secondary computer.

    Software Installation Disc: The included software disc must be installed before connecting the wireless USB receiver to your PC. Once installed, the included software allows you to save still-image and video detected from the Sensor Light & Camera Unit to your PC, via the wireless USB receiver. You can set the Night Guard Home Surveillance System to automatically or manually record still and video images. Recorded files will be saved to C:/Video. The software also provides alarm and view-mode functions.

    Note: The included software supports Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista (32-bit & 64-bit), and Windows 7. Not compatible with Mac.

    Auto Recording: The Auto Recording function automatically records an image for approximately 12 seconds once motion is detected from the passive infrared sensors in the sensor light & camera unit.

    Alarm: When the alarm feature is enabled, a tone will be played through your computer's speakers when the sensor light & camera unit are activated. The volume of this warning depends on the computer's volume.

    View-Modes: You can view a single image on your PC from the sensor light & camera unit or a quad-view (4-images) from multiple connected sensor light & camera units. The background of any triggered sensor will illuminated Red when the sensor is triggered.

    Installation: The Sensor Light & Camera Unit can simply replace a current exterior light and be installed in a standard electrical box. The wireless USB receiver plugs directly into a USB port of your Windows-based computer, while the installation disc must be inserted into your PC's CD/DVD-drive to install the included software.

    Home Security Simplified

    The Night Guard is a great deterrent security device. This puts any intruder on notice they are under surveillance at night when the light activates. Although the software does not operate or disable the motion sensor I've not found this to be an issue. Careful site selection should be a priority consideration as the camera's home position is center point and you will want the swing arc to cover key areas. I would like to see a lower price point. Video quality is good, but should be improved to make this a competitive unit.
    Pros:
    Quality unit. Provides excellent security light. Easy to install hardware and software. Basic wiring and installation for the DIY.
    Cons:
    High price point. Lens and software could be enhanced and still offered at a great price. You may require an electrician if a wiring circuit and box must be installed at your desired installation site. Interferes with some home vintage audio/video wireless signals when in the record mode.

    Not Bad but...

    The Night Guard is great but I wish there were control and better night vision capabilities built in. The softwre cannot operate the motion seneor to position the camera where you want, nor can it diable the motion sensor to a fixed position. There is no zoom capabilities and the light cannot be adjusted remotely, it has fixed positioning which means if you install the camera in a hard to get to place, you will have to get to it in order to adjust the angle of the light. If you can get this item for under $150 you are in good standing. Anything more is too much. Though this item is called the Night Guard the camera is not a night camera, it relys on the halogen light to view anything at night. A real night sensing camera along with all the other wish list above would make this an ideal product. Oh, by the way the video quality is OK, not HD but its OK.
    Pros:
    Good Quality Video, Sensor works, Brightly lit area, easily installs in pre-existing electrical junction box.
    Cons:
    Software lacks control over motion sensor, cam rotation, video zoom and light angle. Cam is not a night vision cam it needs light must be on to see anything at night. Have to physically press button on cam to program it set it up on a new computer. Professional electronical wiring needs to be installed if none exist at location where you want to install the cam.

    Clear Picture, Great Lighting

    Despite the fact that I had to install a new junction box for this installation, the Night Guard Home Security Monitoring System was straight forward and quite easy to install and setup. Wireless connection to my computer couldn't have been easier. Loaded the software, plugged in the USB antenna, and coupled the camera with the computer in under five minutes. The provided software and computer connection resulted in an extremely clear picture ; however, I have elected to use Blue Iris software to monitor this and other security cameras I have on my property. This posed no problems whatsoever.
    Pros:
    Attractive silver housing Easily installed to existing (or new) external junction boxes Straight forward software and computer coupling Clear picture at all hours and bright lighting after dark Well worth the price charged by Crutchfield
    Cons:
    Although it is certainly adequate, the response to motion could be slightly faster
