Why would I need an iPod® adapter?

An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music.

iPhone 5? Check. CD-IV202AV? Check. extra apple adapters? Check. iphone 5 working with App Radio? Negative. Essentailly extra $$$ in material to get this thing to work and it still doesn't work. I should have gotten a Kenwood.
Pros:
Easy to install i guess?
Cons:
9 miles of cable and the apple device has a 2 inch spout at the end of it. OH! And it dosen't currently work.

Waiting

Written By Thomas K., Taunton, MA on Tuesday, April 23, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The cable itself is straight forward as far as installation. However, though this cable is for iPhone 5 compatibility with the Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS, the "firmware" required for the radio is yet unavailable. I have the cable, the Apple Lightning to VGA adapter, and phone ready to go but cannot use the features, on screen navigation via the iPhone 5, because the firmware is not available.
Pros:
Easy to install.
Cons:
No Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS radio firmware for iPhone 5 compatibility. Useless without firmware update.

Need Update

Written By MikeF, Miami on Sunday, April 07, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needs update. When the lightning to USB is connected to the VGA to lightning, I don't get a charge when both are plugged in. My AVH-x5500BHS reads "incompatible USB" and the AppRadio app is not selectable, but when the lightning to USB is connected without the VGA the AppRadio app is selectable(can't see anything cause I need the VGA to work) on the radio.
Pros:
CD-IV202AV is finally made available.
Cons:
Need firmware update to work.

Give me a break pioneer

Written By tbone310, Culver City, Ca on Sunday, April 07, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As the other reviews stated, waited 6 months for the cable now well see how long it's going to take to get the firmware update. I just don't see how pioneer can only release 1/2 of the solution. Either they and Pioneer have sold out or these have been pulled since even the pioneer site no longer has them available.
Cons:
Even bulkier than the previous cable, requires another $60 worth of adapters and there's no firmware for this as of now.

Pioneer CD-IV202AV

Written By Omar, San Jose, CA on Sunday, March 31, 2013

Well, just got my AVH-X7500BT yesterday and got around to installing it today. Got this cable along with the Apple cables and guess what? It doesn't work. Firmware to make it work is not out yet. The good part is that I'm traveling out of the country for 2-3 weeks so hopefully the firmware will be released by the time I get back. Also, if you bypass the VGA adapter and plug the Lightning to USB directly to the iPhone/Pad/Pod, you still get iPod controls for audio only. Also, the cables are really bulky and they're really long. I'm not sure what applications these might have, but for me it's kind of a pain since everything is getting bunched up in the center control area. Once the firmware comes out, I'll have to review it again to see if the product is worth the money.
Pros:
Gives you video out/mirroring from the iPhone and control from the head unit (so Pioneer's website tells me)
Cons:
NO FIRMWARE UPDATE to make it fully functional Long bulky cables Expensive for VGA (non-HDMI)

Not a great solution...not yet.

Written By Ned, Mission Viejo, CA on Friday, March 29, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The firmware update has not arrived yet, but even so, this kit requires the use of Apple's Lightning to VGA adapter, which is a dongle that attaches to both the head unit's VGA cable and firewire cable, while providing less than four inches of cable to connect to the iPhone. The result is a big tangle of cables that has to come out every time you connect your phone to the head unit. Until Apple releases a lighting cable extension cord, allowing you to hide the adapter, this is going to be an eyesore, no matter how well it works.
Pros:
Finally, AppRadio mode on Pioneer's DVD units.
Cons:
Apple lightning to VGA adapter makes for a messy install.

A completely useless cable

Written By MikeL, Baltimore MD on Friday, March 29, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a waste of money! What kind of manufacturer releases hardware but doesn't have the needed software update ready when the product releases? Pioneer tech support was also completely useless and doesn't even have a definite date for the software update required for a product? Spring 2013 is too broad for a software release date
Pros:
Crutchfield customer service and shipping
Cons:
Pioneer support, software update not available when product released

Firmware update required, but not available.

Written By JohnT, Richmond, Va on Thursday, March 28, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this cable to connect my AVH-X5500BHS to my iPhone 5, however in order for the head unit/cable to work with iPhone 5's it needs a firmware upgrade. No problem? Well, if the firmware upgrade was available it wouldn't be a problem, but that's not the case. The firmware hasn't been released yet so until then the cable is completely useless.
