About the Infinity Kappa Perfect12 VQ
Infinity understands that the difference between good bass and great bass is in the details. Incorporating the latest low-frequency innovations, the Kappa Perfect12 VQ 12" subwoofer delivers unbeatable performance and system-tuning flexibility.
Resonance is a big time enemy of great bass, and Infinity's revolutionary Magnesium Metal Matrix (M3D) is the ultimate cone material it's 20 times less resonant than aluminum! Housed in its die-cast frame, the M3D cone is an ultra-stiff piston that translates the low-frequency signal from your amplifier with frightening accuracy. The butylene rubber one-piece surround/gasket exerts tight control over cone excursion so you'll hear smooth bass even when you're really cranking it!
The Kappa Perfect VQ subwoofer offers the unique Variable Q feature, which allows you to optimize the speaker for use with a variety of enclosures sealed, ported, or bandpass (even free-air applications). The sub is shipped with two metal polepiece inserts, which can be plugged into the motor assembly to vary the stiffness of the suspension:
- large insert: small sealed or ported boxes, SPL competition
- small insert: medium size sealed or ported boxes
- no insert: very large enclosures or free-air use
This patent pending approach also allows you to change the character of your bass for different applications. Imagine you could tune your subs for sound quality during the week, then retune for an SPL competition on the weekend! Leave it to Infinity to take bass to a whole new place.

Specifications
Magnesium Metal Matrix (M3D) Woofer Cone: Magnesium Metal Matrix (M3D) is 20 times less resonant than aluminum, delivering superior stiffness and damping.
Nitrile-butylene-rubber One-piece Surround and Gasket: This material provides an optimum blend of elasticity and internal damping. The large roll offers good long-throw linearity with the proper amount of control and stability at excursion limits.
Proprietary Die-cast Frame: The frame offers ample rigidity to support the motor structure, and its vented architecture provides greater movement of air behind the cone and spider for maximum cooling.
Spider-integrated Tinsel Leads: The spider-integrated tinsel leads enhance reliability and eliminate audible tinsel lead slap.
Variable Q: The Kappa Perfect VQ subwoofer offers the unique Variable Q feature, which allows you to optimize the speaker for use with a variety of enclosures - sealed, ported, or bandpass (even free-air applications). The sub is shipped with two metal polepiece inserts, which can be plugged into the motor assembly to vary the stiffness of the suspension:
- Large "LoQ" Insert: small sealed or ported boxes, SPL competition
- Small "MidQ" Insert: medium size sealed or ported boxes
- No Insert: very large enclosures or free-air use
Gold-plated 5-way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, dual banana plugs, and bare wire.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Infinity range from 0.4 cu/ft to 1.25 cu/ft.
Recommended Ported Box Volume: The ported box sizes recommended by Infinity range from 1.75 cu/ft to 3.0 cu/ft. One 4" diameter x 14.5" long port should be used with the 1.75 cu/ft enclosure and one 4" diameter x 16" long port should be used with the 3.0 cu/ft enclosure.
Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: The bandpass box sizes recommended by Infinity range from 2.0 cu/ft to 3.2 cu/ft. The 2.0 cu/ft enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft and a vented chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft. The 3.2 cu/ft enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 2.0 cu/ft and a vented chamber volume of 1.2 cu/ft. One 4" diameter x 10.5" long port should be used with the 2.0 cu/ft enclosure and one 4" diameter x 6.8" long port should be used with the 3.2 cu/ft enclosure.
Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed, ported and bandpass enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates two areas of the vehicle. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer.
Note: When used as a free-air subwoofer, no metal polepiece insert is required.
Thiele/Small Parameters: The following Thiele/Small parameters change depending on which metal polepiece insert is used:
- BL:
- Large "LoQ" Insert: 15.55 Tesla meters
- Small "MidQ" Insert: 12.19 Tesla meters
- No Insert: 9.67 Tesla meters
- Qes:
- Large "LoQ" Insert: 0.36
- Small "MidQ" Insert: 0.5
- No Insert: 0.79
- Qts:
- Large "LoQ" Insert: 0.34
- Small "MidQ" Insert: 0.47
- No Insert: 0.74

I got two of these about a year ago and wouldn't trade them for anything else. They hit hard and loud and can handle anything I throw at them. I would recommend these to anyone looking for great sound.
