Our take on the Tsunami LITEWAVE Series PP912UM-CAP

by Matt Freeman

With Tsunami capacitors, you'll never have to worry about getting enough power to the amplifiers in your high-end mobile audio system. This Lite Wave Series 1.2-farad cap stores up a reservoir of power, and delivers it exactly when your amps, subs, and speakers need it most.

The blue LCD meter shows you just how much juice your cap is putting out. Blue flashing LEDs add a cool look to your installation. An audible warning lets you know if the voltage is too low or too high.

Highlights:

  • 1.2-farad capacitor (24-volt surge)
  • blue LCD meter
  • flashing blue LEDs
  • audible low/high-voltage warning
  • 4-15/16"W (3" without bracket) x 10-7/16 x 3-3/8"D
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

    Specifications

    Overview

Overview: The overall response of your audio system will be enhanced with the use of capacitors due to their ability to store a large amount of current and discharge it quickly to supplement your amplifier's power supply during high current demand (bass note). The Tsunami capacitor is a logical addition to your system due to the fact that automotive batteries aren't designed to deliver the current to satisfy the requirements of high powered audio components. It can also filter AC voltage induced in the system by the amplifier's power supply which could cause objectionable noise. One Farad of capacitance is recommended for each 1,000 watts of amplifier power, but you can never have too much capacitance for any system.

    Features

Display: There is a digital charge level indicator display. The digital display shows your precise voltage in 0.1 volt steps.

Flashing LEDs: There are eight blue LEDs that pulse with the charge/discharge cycles.

Audible Voltage Warning: If the voltage drops below 10 volts or rises above 17.5 volts the capacitor emits an audible alarm.

    Installation

Installation: On the top of the capacitor there are two screw terminals, one positive and one negative. The positive terminal  is connected to the battery (and fused at the battery) and to the positive input on the amp. The negative is grounded to the car's chassis. Ring terminals with minimum inner diameter of 0.244" (6.2mm) should be used to connect all the wires.

Charging Bulb: The capacitor comes with a charging bulb built into the top of the capacitor to assist you in initially charging the capacitor. A separate charging bulb is also included in the package.

    Specifications

    Specifications:

    • Capacitance: 1.2 Farad
    • Maximum Operating DC Voltage: 24 volt/30 volt surge
    • ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance): < 0.002 ohm

so far so good. Just a small note if you lone your car out to your girlfriend let her know that their is a capatitor in the trunk and it might start screaming at her, aparently it will make the sound with ingtion off and when running, i personaly have never heard it but it scared the crap out of girlfriend. It has been installed in my 1967 mustang and it has help quite abit with headlight dimming; but lights still dim but not noticable unless you are really looking at them. just a rough guess i would say its about 90% better than it was.
    Pros:
    keeping fingers crossed
    Cons:
    kinda big

Its works.... but its over priced... any other brand or 1.2 is like 20 bucks.... they all do the same thing so just shop around... I also didn't look at the size to power thing and its wayyyyy to small for my system... so now I've gotta find a four farad... which I have.... for a third the price... crutchfield is amazing as always. Just not this brand...
    Pros:
    Works.
    Cons:
    Wayyyy to expensive

I am unable to offer a review one way or the other with this product. What I can do, however, is give my two cents for potential buyers. I ordered it, it arrived, it did not work, and I returned it for a refund. I read all of the reviews on this product before purchasing it and I was very apprehensive the entire time. Perhaps it was simply a lemon, and I hope this is the case, but it did not work. Furthermore, having two sets of installation instructions [that are completely different] that contain typos is also a turn off. If the need for a capacitor arises in the future I will look to Crutchfield before anywhere else, but I will not look to Tsunami first.
    Pros:
    N/A
    Cons:

i was amazed by the outcome after setting it up, I no longer have lighs dimming which
causes stress on electrical system. What i truly love most about it is the vibrant blue
LED light flashing from it. At night it looks as if i am a cop car approaching you from far
away because the lights are soo bright.

    Awesome

Written By Tyler, Abington, PA on Friday, May 14, 2010

I installed it myself, but for some reason i blew my fuse? I did everything correctly. Unplugged power from battery. Then I hooked up wires. Reconected. Started car, worked for a sec then stopped. My fuse by my battery blew. Idk why? I replaced the fuse and everything was fine though!! This cap is awesome it has stopped my headlights from dimming, and it seems like my subs are a bit more precise when they hit.

I would completely recomend this cap for a system that has a bit of power.

    Great Investment

Written By Mike, Tampa, Fl on Wednesday, March 03, 2010

    I purchased a Kenwood KAC-9104D 500W x 1 Car Amplifier and I knew that I needed a
capaciitor to help save my electrical system. I purchased this with my amp to help power
my subs and I surely can tell youu that having this capacitor made a difference with my
system. I hooked my subs and amp up without it for a day or so before installing this
capacitor so I could see if I could tell a difference.; and it made a huge difference. My
subs sound much better and they hit very hard. The lue lights are an added bonus
considering that the illumination on my deck is blue and their is a blue accent light on
my amp as well. normally the lights on my car would be constantly flashing whenever
the bass hit; but this capacitor actually helps. The only time that the lights start flashing
is when I turn the bass and the volume up trying to show my system off. This capacitor
was a great investment considering that it would take the extra strain off of my electrical
    system.

I would highly recommend this capacitor to anyone who wants to add more power to
their system and also take some strain off their electrical system!

Great capacitor and it looks cool too with the blue lights. Before my amp would cut out during long periods of bass but this capacitor has solved all my problems and works great. Definitely would recommend!!!

The first one I got didn't work right I am not sure if it was the items fault or the dummies that installed it. I tried to tell them that this one didn't req you to charge it up and they insisted that you had to. Well I got the replacement in the mail today and just unhooked the broke one and put the new one in there and bam works great the leds are cool they let you know when it is working. So all you have to do is connect the ground and then hook up the wire from the battery and you are done nothing else it will charge itself and you don't have to do anything after you hook the neg and pos up.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had never used a capacitor in the past and have installed many car audio systems. I am an experienced audiophile, but sorta 'old school'. I just installed this capacitor with an Alpine 4-way amp and Kenwood 3-way speakers. I cannot believe my ears !!! It makes those little oval speakers sound so good and slap so hard !!! I will always use capacitors from now on. The lights and/or sound are not a nuisance. It is also so cool to be able to look down and see what your vehicle voltage is running !!! It was very easy to install and charges itself. I am a believer !!!

    Rock On !!!

Baught this cap alittle less than a year ago and am VERY pleased with it. Liked the fact that i didnt have to charge or discharge it and i think that the charging lights add a nice touch to my system. I do however want to do the "Big 3" to help out with the dimming of the lights issue but i recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheaper way of upgrading you sound system.

Works great. Down-loadable owners manual out of date. No included

battery cable without the sound system on and unit charges by itself. It is

    Clear Peaks

Written By Robert, Hawaii on Wednesday, December 03, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So I installed this cuz I had a terrible cap and my battery was at 70% charge and the dealship wanted to replace my battery. So I bought this and now my battery is fine. The music is also clearer and the peak notes high and low don't bog now. If I crank it up it still dims my headlights (2 amps @ 660W RMS) but at least the music is clearer and my battery is in better shape. Good investment all in all. I probably need to do a big 3 cable upgrade since my alternator only puts out 90amps.
