General Features
3" TFT LCD Monitor:
This unit features a 3"
TFT LCD monitor built into the
motorized, fold-down faceplate. The LCD serves as a
video monitor and system information display.
Intelligent
EQ (7-Band iEQ): This model has "Hard Rock", "R&B", "Pop", "Jazz",
"Dance", "Country", "Reggae", "Classic", "User 1", "User 2", "User 3", and
"Flat" preset EQ curves. "User 1", "User 2", and "User 3" presets can be
adjusted to your preference and stored in memory. For each User preset, you can
independently adjust the following frequencies: 60 Hz, 150 Hz, 400 Hz, 1 kHz,
2.5 kHz, 6.3 kHz, and 15 kHz. The level of each frequency can be adjusted from
-5dB to +5dB in 1dB increments.
MP3/WMA
Playback:
The KD-AVX1 can play MP3/WMA files that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW
discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level
1/Level 2, Joliet or Romeo. MP3
files with a bit rate from 32-320 kbps and WMA files with a bit rate from 32-192
kbps are supported.
Each disc can have a
maximum of 1100 files and 250 folders, with a maximum of 999 files per folder.
Dual Zone Capable: The 2nd
Audio Output allows you to route all A/V entertainment to an optional back seat
monitor and headphone system, allowing front seat passengers to enjoy
independent CD or radio programming.
SIRIUS Satellite Radio Controls:
This unit can control an optional SIRIUS Satellite tuner (item #607SIRJVC1). In
addition to the SIRIUS tuner, you will need an antenna and subscription in order
to receive SIRIUS Satellite Radio programming.
Amplifier Gain Control:
When you are using the KD-AVX1 with factory speakers (or those rated to less
than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power
being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low", the
volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers
rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high", and
the volume control will range from 0 to 50.
Source Naming: The
KD-AVX1
allows you to assign names of up to 16 characters for AM and FM stations (30
station maximum), and a name up to 16 characters for a connected external
component. You can also assign names of up to 32 characters for CDs (including a
connected CD changer, but not MP3/WMA or CD Text discs--30 disc maximum).
+10/-10 and +100/-100
Buttons: When
selecting CD tracks or MP3/WMA/JPEG file within a folder, you can jump ahead or
jump back to the nearest track/file number that is a multiple of 10 by using the
"+10" or "-10" buttons on the remote. For example, when selecting track/file 32
from track/file 6, you can press the "+10" button three times (>10, >20, >30) to
get to 30, then the "track up" button twice (>31, >32) to get to track/file 32.
For MP3/WMA/JPEG files with a number greater than 99, use the +100/-100 buttons.
Subwoofer Output:
This unit has
2-volt gold-plated subwoofer preamp outputs (the front and rear preamp outputs
are 5-volt outputs) on a 6" pigtail. The subwoofer output has independent level
control, adjustable from 00 to 08, and a selectable low-pass crossover. You can
select a cutoff frequency of 55, 85, or 125 Hz.
High-pass Filter: The front and rear speakers have an adjustable
high-pass filter that can be set to
55, 85, or 125 Hz.
Audio/Video Input:
The audio/video input can be set to one of the following modes:
- Audio + Video: choose when connecting an A/V component like a VCR
- Audio: choose when connecting an audio component like a cassette
deck
- Camera: use this mode when connecting an optional rear view
camera
- Camera Rev: the mirror image of the rear view through the rear
view camera is automatically displayed on the monitor
Compatibility with Optional AUX Input Adapter:
The optional JVC Line Input Adapter (item # 105KSU57) may be used to provide an
auxiliary input on this unit. Item 105KSU57 connects to the CD changer input on
this unit. When the aux input adapter is connected to this unit, a CD changer
cannot be connected.
Dimmer:
This
unit is equipped with a wire that JVC calls an illumination lead, however,
it acts as a dimmer lead. The dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at
all times), Auto (display window automatically dims when your car head
lights are turned on), or On (display is always dimmed).
Also, this unit has a
timer that allows you to turn the dimmer on for a period of time each day.
The timer allows you to select a start time and an end time for the dimmer.
Note:
The amount of
dimming is fixed, it cannot be adjusted, and the illumination wire
must be connected for Auto operation.
DVD/Video CD Features
MP3/WMA
Playback (Giga MP3):
The KD-AVX1 can play MP3/WMA files that have been recorded on DVD-ROM, DVD-R,
and DVD-RW discs. The disc must be compliant with UDF-Bridge format. Discs must
be created on a computer with a DVD burner. The DVD burner software application
must be compliant with UDF-Bridge format.
Note: DVDs recorded on
stand alone consumer DVD burners are not compatible with this unit.
Direct Access: Using the
supplied remote, you can directly access any title or chapter on a DVD, and any
track on a Video CD.
Multi-Angle Display: This
function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a
number of different angles.
Note: This function is
limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles.
Monitor Type: You can choose
one of the following monitor types:
- 16:9: select this when the
aspect ratio of your monitor is 16:9
- 4:3 Letter Box: select
this when the aspect ratio of your monitor is 4:3. While viewing a
widescreen picture, the black bars appear on the top and bottom of the
screen.
- 4:3 Pan Scan: select this
when the aspect ratio of your monitor is 4:3. While viewing a widescreen
picture, the black bars do not appear; however, the left and right edges of
the picture will not be shown on the screen.
Scan
Search: When
playing a DVD or Video CD, there are five fast-play speeds in both directions
(2x, 5x, 10x, 20x, and 60x).
Slow Motion: When playing a DVD
or Video CD, there are five slow motion speeds in both directions (1/32, 1/16,
1/8, 1/4, and 1/2).
Repeat Play: When playing a
DVD, you can repeat the current chapter or title. When playing a Video CD, you
can repeat the current track.
Random
Play: When playing a Video CD, you can play the tracks in random order.
Intro Play: In this mode, you
can play the first 10 seconds of each track on a Video CD.
Zoom:
When playing DVDs, Video CDs or JPEG
files, you can enlarge the picture using the zoom feature. You can choose one of
six zoom settings. Once the image is enlarged, you can move the image around on
the screen.
Dynamic Range Compression: This
function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear
quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a
setting of Auto or On.
Digital Audio Output: You can
choose the type of signal that passes through the optical digital output:
- PCM Only: choose when
connected to an amplifier or decoder that is incompatible with Dolby
Digital, DTS, or MPEG audio
- Dolby Digital/PCM: choose
when connected to an amplifier or decoder that is compatible with Dolby
Digital
- Stream/PCM: choose when
connected to an amplifier or decoder that is compatible with Dolby Digital,
DTS, or MPEG audio
Changer Controls
Compatibility:
This unit is equipped with JVC's "J-Link" CD changer
control system. It is fully compatible with JVC's CD/MP3 changer (257CHX1500).
Other JVC CH-X series CD changers (except CH-X99 and CH-X100) can be controlled
directly by this head unit, however, they are not compatible with MP3 discs. You
cannot use the KD-MK series CD changers with this unit, even with an adapter.
Inputs and Outputs Notes
Optical Digital Output: The
optical digital output on the rear of the unit allows you to connect an optional
digital audio processor.
Audio/Video Output:
The 2nd Audio Output (left
and right RCA audio jacks)
and Video Output (RCA
composite video jack) allow you to connect an
optional back seat monitor and headphone
system.
Audio/Video Input:
The audio/video input consists of left and right RCA audio jacks and an RCA
composite video jack, allowing you to connect external equipment to this head
unit.
