This is a decent subwoofer, but I was surprised with the sound levels it was able to achieve. I purchased this unit to replace a single JBL GTO804 which had a torn rubber sound. I was looking for something that would play lower frequencies at higher levels. My vehicle has a trunk and I first tried the BT1214 positioned in the recommended location, next to the passenger side wheel well and pointed towards the rear of the vehicle. This took up a lot of room in the trunk so I repositioned it behind the rear seat and pointed at the passenger side wheel well. I could not hear any difference in sound quality or level between the two different locations, so that is where it was mounted.

I hooked up the Bazooka to the same amplifier I already had mounted for the GTO 804 and used the same settings for cutoff and gain, but was surprised that with 12 inch woofer in a vented enclosure, the sound levels were for the most part were no different than than the 8 inch GTO804 in a sealed enclosure. There was one notable exception, the BT1214 was able to play some seriously low frequencies at much higher levels than the JBL GTO804. Unfortunately when it came to sound quality, the BT1214 suffers the same limitation that is typical of almost all vented enclosures. Bass notes sound muddy compared to the tightness that comes from a sealed enclosure.

I did get what I wanted, higher output with low frequencies and I was expecting the degraded sound quality from the vented enclosure.

Ever since I got my first bazooka 8" I'm hooked to improving my car audio. I've tried many boxes in my mustang convertible with its tiny trunk space but it seems that I've ended up with bazooka again. I've swaped the component subwoofer with a Kicker CVX 12" hooked to an amp and it was awesome! BUT I got married and now it's too much for my wife so I have to take it out. I've tried without the Bazooka but longing for the low end sound so after almost a month without it, I reinstalled it but with the original component sub for compromise. Now even thou I can't shake the neighbors window anymore but have the low end back that I've always wanted.
