Why do I need an enclosure?

An enclosure is simply the box that houses your sub; sealed and ported enclosures are the most popular types. A sealed enclosure is usually smaller in size, sacrificing a little volume level to deliver more accurate bass. The ported enclosure features a vent which allows bass waves to escape from behind the mounted sub, augmenting the bass coming off the front of the sub. Ported boxes are louder, bigger, and a little less accurate. Every sub works best in the size and type of enclosure that's recommended by the manufacturer, so make sure you match your sub with the right box.

Sound Ordnance's rugged Bass Bunker enclosures come built to last and ready to help your sub deliver real low-frequency firepower. These unloaded boxes feature high-grade, medium-density fiberboard construction, with sealed inner braces that help combat resonance by reducing vibrations. Rounded outside corners and recessed panels allow them to fit into more vehicles, while tough black carpeting defends against incoming nicks and scratches. Bass Bunkers make a great solution when building your own box is not an option.

The BB8-60V ported enclosure holds one 8" subwoofer and offers an internal volume of 0.65 cubic feet. Just add the right sub, amp, and wiring, then mount the enclosure securely, and you're ready to hit the road with some real bass artillery in your arsenal.

Features

Materials: The Sound Ordnance BB8-60V Bass Bunker is an unloaded, hatchback-style ported enclosure for one 8" subwoofer. It is constructed of 1/2" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), covered in black carpet.

Internal Box Volume: The enclosure has 0.65 cubic feet of airspace.

Terminals: The BB8-60V is equipped with a pair of spring-post speaker terminals mounted in the rear panel. The spring terminals will accept bare wire up to 10 gauge, pin connectors, and single banana plugs, but are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs. Inside the enclosure the terminal has an attached 21" length of speaker wire for connecting the subwoofer.

Brackets: Brackets for securing the enclosure to your vehicle are recommended.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed a Polk Audio 8 inch sub and an old Sony222 amp in this and was surprised to get so much sound out of such a small sub. Altogether the sound is very clean and loud enough to add base to a stock stereo. I have owned three sub boxes so far and this was as good as any for the price. My car stereo sounds great and it barely touched my wallet.

The only reason I'm giving this sub box a 4 star review is because I had to modify the existing speaker wires that come in the box with ones that were going to be able to handle the sub I used, other than that it's a great box for my Cruze, and delivers good sound through out the car when faces up against the side of the trunk, this was a great buy

I have an Alpine 8" Type R sub in this box. Before I received the box I had the Alpine placed in the rear back panel behind the rear seats. I wanted a little more boom out of this sub, so I ordered the Bass Bunker. It did exactly what I thought it would do, the bass became deeper and more boomy, but I still wanted more. Eventually I added 3/4 of a pound of Polyfill. This made the bass sound more acurate and slightly deeper, while reducing most of the distortion I would get if I cranked my sub all the way up. This is a great box for those that don't have much space or don't need a really strong boom like a bandpass box would give.

Pros:

Nice sound, nice looking, compact design, looks well built, good price

Cons:

Won't give you big bass like a bandpass box or a 12" speaker in a ported box would (obviously :-)

First of all - I like Crutchfield and have never disliked anything I bought from them until now. I had bought this for a Sundown Sa-8 8" Subwoofer. The internal volume is about right, the manufacturer recommends between .5 and .7 cubic feet after displacement - but the tuning of this box is 44 hz and the port area is VERY small.

I would not recommend this box for any subwoofer. It is tuned too high and you get a LOT of port noise. If there were more port area, it wouldn't be the bad but as it is right now it is not enough.

Build your own box instead. Save money and have fun doing it. I wish I didn't waste money on this.
