Our take on the Pioneer TS-SW2541D

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Pioneer's innovative TS-SW2541D 10" subwoofer packs a punch that belies its slender cross-section. Its Air Suspension Control System eliminates the need for a conventional spider structure — a cushion of locked-in air acts like a spring, providing smooth, precise movement of the woofer. This special design keeps the mounting depth of the sub at a slim 3", producing bold bass in places regular subwoofers can't go.

The one-piece die-cast aluminum basket sports a radical fin design, to provide extra cooling and rock-solid resonance control. Rugged internal parts, a powerful strontium magnet, and a cone-reinforcing aluminum dust cap round out the package.

Features

Shallow Mount Woofer: Pioneer's "Shallow-Mount" subwoofers are designed to provide wider installation options for a broad range of vehicles. They can be mounted behind or under the seats of many vehicles. Although they have a compact design, these woofers still deliver the same big-bass performance of a full-size subwoofer.

Double Cone: The subwoofer features an extremely strong and lightweight carbon-fiber reinforced IMPP (injection molded polypropylene) Composite Double Cone woofer. The stiffness of the double cone structure is greatly increased by connecting them using six fixed reinforcing nodes. This ensures the cones remain rigid even under high power input, reproducing extremely accurate and realistic sound.

Dual Surround: The double cone structure uses dual three-layer, "M"-shaped radial surrounds to attach to the basket and form the Air Suspension System. This design keeps the voice coil centered, even under high power, for clear and powerful bass.

Air Suspension System: Typical subwoofers use a spider to control the woofer cone's excursion. The Air Suspension System, formed by creating a sealed air space between the double cones, effectively replaces the spider, providing superior design and performance characteristics. It provides excellent linearity and clear bass with low distortion.

Magnet: The woofer has a high-power 42-ounce strontium magnet.

Chassis: These woofers have a massive die-cast one piece aluminum basket with rigid spokes which securely hold the top and bottom sides of the motor structure. This design effectively minimizes the undesired output loss due to any flex or vibration of the basket structure.

T-Pole Yoke: The vented and projected T-Pole Yoke design allows for better heat dissipation, increased power handling, and greatly improves linearity during large excursions by expanding the magnetic field.

Specifications

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.35 cu/ft to 0.7 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Pioneer is 0.6 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield.

Sierra Crew Cab

Written By Alex D, Cedartown, GA on Monday, September 12, 2011

I put four of these 10" subs in a custom sealed enclosure behind the back seat of my 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab. Put some sound deadening behind the seat, license plate, and inside the door panels, put a true 1000 watt memphis class d amp with 250 true rms watts to each sub and these things POUND, THUMP, KICK, and any other thing you need your bass to do. I put an inline sub control because i listen to all kinds of music and hey, sometimes i just wanted to show off my incredible stereo to suprised people that saw my factory cd player in the dash! BE SURE to build your box to specs.... the only way someone could put a bad review for this product is if they didnt do it right. Had this stereo for 4+ years and totaled the truck, took these babies out and am about to transplant them in my new car. Im going the ported route to see what happens this time. I know this review is long overdue, but hey... might still help one of you. (AT the price you can find these now GREAT DEAL!!)

Pioneer TS-SW2541D

Written By knedler, Honolulu on Friday, February 20, 2009

This little sub really worked out well for me. I needed a sub that would fit behind my Tacoma dual cab back seat. I first shopped for an enclosure and the matching and the Pioneer UD-SW10B Shallow Sealed Enclosure fit the bill perfectly. I'm driving it with the bridged ch 3 & 4 output of an Alpine MRP-F600 (about 275W rms @ 12V) so I needed a 4 ohm. It's not a ton of power but it works for me. I was very impressed with the results. Very clean bass and this little baby really thumps along for a 10" single. I'm tickled pink with this sub. Everyone said I'd hate a shallow sub but I have to dissagree. This one is great!

Great specialty speaker for a good price

Written By Glen, Overland Park, KS on Monday, January 12, 2009

I mounted this sub in a sealed enclosure of approximately .45 cu ft. A clarion
APX2180 is powering it in bridged mode for a total of 300 watts. This sub
thumps tight and hard, putting out more than enough bass to make my ears
hurt. It's taken a little bit of time to get the tuning right, but it's an amazing
sub and fits perfectly under the back bench seat of my truck. I don't have
enough power into it to make it a "teeth rattler" but it's perfect for the limited
space I had in the back part of the cab. I'd highly recommend this sub if
mounting depth is a concern. I had some concerns about the quality of bass
that would be produced, but listening to it has dispelled any of those worries.

Pioneer TS-SW2541D

Written By Jason, Wisconsin on Wednesday, September 17, 2008

I have one of these 10" Pioneer Subwoofers and it sound great in the recommended shallow mount Pioneer Box. I have it mounted under the back seat in a 2000 F-150 and was very surprised and it's sound quality and clarity for a shallow mount subwoofer. I had Pioneer Subs in the past and this is the best one i'm ever had.

Tight Space?

Written By Jake, Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday, December 22, 2007

2 of these bad Larrys, 1000 watt Xplod, OB-Q68 Box, 500k Farrad Capacitor, 4 guage power wiring, 12 guage speaker wiring, used a converter off of the existing OEM wiring from the speakers to USB (and to keep the steering wheel controls functional) all packed in under the back seat of my '08 Sierra Club Cab. Adjustment here, and there, and then some dynamat.

These subs are great. Tight bass, no bottoming out (unless the amp isn't adjusted), and a sweet shake to the mirrors. Give them a week... They have a break in period, and then they sound even deeper.

Great deal too. Sure they're 10"s, but I've got three kids too!

Great sub but shop around

Written By rz22g, Huntington Beach, Ca on Thursday, August 23, 2007

I have this in my scion in a custom fiberglass box. I have room for other enclosures but wanted a concealed installation. I was skeptical as most are but this sub will surprise you. The price here is almost 2x over the top so do your homework.

Not Bad

Written By S10 Lover, Ohio on Thursday, December 28, 2006

I wasnt sure about this sub at first, a sub with a 3 inch mounting depth!?! I fig. I would give it a shot. I built a box to specs and tried it out. I liked it, but it just didnt play certain notes at all! sound terrible on thoes note, most songs weren/t bad though. I sent it back, i might get it again and do somethings differnt. Try it out, you can lose with the return policy.

Written By JR, Franklin, NC on Wednesday, December 20, 2006

This sub is amazing!!! I own a ford f-150 and it is decked out in shallow mount subs I have two 12 inch and 2 8 inch subs. I loved the first so much I bought three more. You can not lose. My truck shakes going down the road with these turned have way. These are definite head turners. Just make sure you either order or specificly build your box with the air space recommend. You cant go wrong with these subs.

Surprise from Pioneer

Written By Sean, Orlando, FL on Sunday, December 10, 2006

Outstanding sound quality and sound levels from this 10" sub. Sounds excellent in a custom box behind the passenger side rear seat in my '06 Tacoma Double Cab. I already had the 10" box, but I recommend going for the 12" if you can. The 10" rocks, but just like any good 10", it can't get loud enough to intimidate the other cars around you.

Love THAT BASSSSS

Written By mudfly, Arlington Tx on Thursday, November 23, 2006

I have two of these subs only they are the premier series in a Crew Cab Chevy. there is no space for a conventional sub and good sound. These speakers hit hard and precise. I have them in a sealed box behind the fold down seat with a JBL GTR 1000 x2 amp. put plenty of power and watch em go. kinda pricey but for crew cab owners who want that bass its worth the money. you can put four in and blow you mind. tight package big PUNCH

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
