An enclosure is simply the box that houses your sub; sealed and ported enclosures are the most popular types. A sealed enclosure is usually smaller in size, sacrificing a little volume level to deliver more accurate bass. The ported enclosure features a vent which allows bass waves to escape from behind the mounted sub, augmenting the bass coming off the front of the sub. Ported boxes are louder, bigger, and a little less accurate. Every sub works best in the size and type of enclosure that's recommended by the manufacturer, so make sure you match your sub with the right box. Our take on the Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker by Dominic Devito Sound Ordnance's rugged Bass Bunker enclosures come built to last and ready to help your sub deliver real low-frequency firepower. These unloaded boxes feature high-grade, medium-density fiberboard construction, with sealed inner braces that help combat resonance by reducing vibrations. Rounded outside corners and recessed panels allow them to fit into more vehicles, while tough black carpeting defends against incoming nicks and scratches. Bass Bunkers make a great solution when building your own box is not an option. The BB10-50S sealed enclosure holds one 10" subwoofer and offers an internal volume of 0.54 cubic feet. Just add the right sub, amp, and wiring, then mount the enclosure securely, and you're ready to hit the road with some real bass artillery in your arsenal. Warning: This enclosure does not include mounting hardware. If you're buying a sub from us, please check "What's in the Box?" to see if screws are included. If not, you should have an assortment of heavy-duty wood screws on hand for the installation. I would use this for a 10" subwoofer with sealed box requirements closer to this than the JL 10w3v3 that I bought it for. The JL sub just wants more space than provided, the bass bunker limited the sub's volume. I ended up paying $200 for a custom built MDF enclosure. The custom enclosure was properly sized and colored so the system matches my vehicle sonically and visually much better. If this enclosure closely/exactly match your sub's requirements, get it. If not, go custom. Pros: Cheap, sturdy, asthetically pleasing black color Cons: Will be too small for some subs, not as professional looking or sounding as a custom box Was this review helpful? This box is decent and one of the only pre-fabbed boxes I could find this small. It seems pretty sturdy and it's finished well. My only complaint would be that they don't offer a model that sported 3/4 inch MDF. I believe the thicker material offers slightly better sound quality and less color to the sound. I like the carpeting used on these boxes, it seems to be of high quality. Some may not like the embroidered emblem on the box, it doesn't bother me, but I would have preffered it not be there. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Nice solid box. Written By Mike D, Washington, DC on Monday, April 02, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) This is a nice solid box. It appeared to be well sealed but I went over the interior seams with silicone just to be safe and let it dry for 24 hours. Sounding great in my ride with rich, full bass. Pros: It was packaged well and got to my doorstep without a ding. Internal bracing makes it sturdy and may make up for the 5/8" MDF construction instead of 3/4". Spring terminals grip the speaker wire tightly. Cons: I bought it to house my Alpine SWR-1043D sub. Crutchfield's "accessories" page for this item says it matches. Yeah it does for the volume, but the sub is so deep that the box's bracing stopped me from inserting it all the way. I had to cut some of the bracing away with a saw and shopvac out the dust. No biggie. Also like "Tim2000" I would have preferred drilling my own hole for the speaker wire. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Nice build Written By Tim2000, Cherry Hill, NJ on Tuesday, October 04, 2011 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) The build of this box with internal bracing is excellent along with the carpeting job. My subwoofer slipped in like a glove and sounds fantastic in this box. *** Be sure to use fiber fill in this box or Dacron batting as per the recommendation of the subwoofer manufacturer. I took off 1 star because of the terminal connection plate mounted on the back of the box. You can't tell the method by which it is attached to the box or how well it is sealed. I added wood glue to the inside of the box around the terminal plate to ensure an air-tight seal. If air were to leak out of the box around the terminal plate, the subwoofer's performance would suffer (you may or may not notice this degree of performance based upon the music type, music volume level, the sensitivity of your ears, etc.). I would have preferred a totally sealed box where I could have drilled a hole for my speaker wire and then seal it with a silicone sealant. Keep in mind that this method is a PERMANENT method to attach speaker wires, so make sure you use plenty of wire for future stereo layout changes. That being said, the quick-release spring terminals on the back allow for a simple and easy method to attach speaker wires to the box. Based upon this single purchase, I would consider purchasing another Sound Ordnance enclosure. 3 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? I got two of these enclosures to use for my Boston Acoustics G310-4 subwoofers. Upon receiving them, they seemed very sturdy and well built. The box is very solid and carpeted well. The internal bracing is another nice feature. The terminals on the back are nice also, but took some work to get my 12 gauge wire to fit. The only thing I wish was better quality was the caulk/silicon on the inside joints and corners. It was done, but it was a sloppy job. Some of the joints were missed. Overall, the enclosures were a great choice for these subs. They have stood up to 800 RMS from two of these subs for about a week and a half now. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a solid enclosure. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Not bad! This box looks to be well made and is just about the perfect size for the Boston acoustics sub I mounted in it. Sounds great! Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Great value compared to the competition Written By marco, San Francisco, CA on Friday, February 19, 2010 I purchased this box for use with a MTX thunder 10" 300 watt sub powered by a 300 watt alpine mono sub. I was very pleased when I received the enclosure. The speaker input hardware is high quality, and the box is well constructed (caulking well applied, wood is reinforced well, carpeting is clean and attractive). The construction is far better than the pair of cheapo 6x9 enclosures I once bought online. As for the sound, I don't have much to compare it too. I chose the box because the interior volume matched my sub. I don't have any complaints. This box is a great value. The price compares well to the cheapest boxes online, though the quality is higher. I look forward to reading other reviews on "sound ordnance" equipment. 12 out of 12 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? 5 out of 5 Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker Written By JameyC, Vermont on Monday, February 14, 2011 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) This box looks to be well made and is just about the perfect size for the Boston acoustics sub I mounted in it. Sounds great! Was this review helpful? Yes | No
5 out of 5 Great value compared to the competition Written By marco, San Francisco, CA on Friday, February 19, 2010 I purchased this box for use with a MTX thunder 10" 300 watt sub powered by a 300 watt alpine mono sub. Yes | No
