Metra

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • illumination
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Does the job!

Written By achmafooma, South Riding, VA on Friday, May 24, 2013

The wiring harness does the job and does it well. My one small complaint is that the diagram/instructions should be clearer about the 'automatic antenna' wire. My car (2008 Subaru Outback) doesn't have an automatic antenna, so I didn't bother connecting it. As a result, my radio reception was terrible! Turns out that Subaru has an antenna booster that runs off the 'automatic antenna' lead, so you DO need to connect it to the appropriate wire on your unit's wire harness. On mine, it was some sort of vaguely defined accessory connector (and it mentioned 'automatic antenna' in the small print as something you might connect to it). After I made the connection, everything worked great. Recommend clarifying this in the instructions; the blue wire isn't necessarily for automatic antennas only, and MUST be connected [at least on my Subaru] if you want good radio reception.
Pros:
Works fine, does the job, easy to hook up.
Cons:
Instructions should be clearer about the 'automatic antenna' (which is actually an antenna booster on my 2008 Outback) and needs to be connected even if you don't have an automatic antenna.

Its a harness... Worked as expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Received this very quick with free shipping thanks to Crutchfield, who have always provided excellent service and fast shipping. Price was much better than similar plugs found else-where and even came with Crutchfield vehicle-specific instillation instructions, which are absolutely excellent BTW. Simply couldn't ask for more, had my radio installed in a matter of minutes without having to cut, test, and splice factory wiring.
Pros:
Cheap Comes with instructions Easy to use Doesn't disturb factory wiring Decent quality
Cons:
Doesn't make me breakfast?

None better

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this from Crutchfield and chose to get a head unit from somewhere else. In the package from Crutchfield, a full picture-laden highly-descriptive instruction booklet accompanied the harness. These instructions were not only for taking the dash panel off for the radio installation, but also for all the speakers in the car. Over and above the call of duty for a 12-dollar harness. I will not hesitate to pay the extra price for my next unit because of such excellent attention to detail.
Pros:
Easy-to-read instruction booklet. Harness is a perfect fit. Pre-stripped tips are brilliant.
Cons:
It didn't include a briefcase full of cash.

This was the wrong harness, it did not match the Subaru wiring. But it turned out that I didn't need a new radio, just new speakers. So I didn't have to use it.

Best thing ever made. This makes an install so simple. I always solder my connections and you can do this at the workbench in no time. Then, just plug it in and install the head unit. Its that simple. If you trade often, this is the ticket.

It worked great, but failed to mention critical info

Written By Anonymous, Altoona, IA on Wednesday, August 29, 2012
Installed in a 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The wiring harness worked well, but instructions failed to mention that Subaru FM reception booster is powered by "power antennae" wire which typically controls a raising and lowering antennae. I had to install it twice.
