Bose

Our take on the Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones

by David Brown
Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones

Get relief from ambient noise

Bose has long enjoyed a solid reputation for the quality and performance of their noise reducing headphones. Compared to earlier models, the QuietComfort® 15 headphones reduce more noise across a wider range of frequencies, thanks to advances the company has made in their proprietary Acoustic Noise Cancelling® technology. Quite simply, these are the best noise reduction headphones Bose has ever made.

Better noise cancellation with innovative Bose technology

The QuietComfort® 15 headphones feature microphones on both the outside and inside of each earcup that pick up the ambient sounds in your listening environment. Special circuitry inside the earcups then reacts instant by instant to produce an opposite, canceling signal. This circuitry efficiently minimizes unwanted external noises, so they don't interfere with the music from your portable player or the dialogue from in-flight movies.

The QuietComfort® 15 headphones also feature Bose's innovative TriPort® technology. It uses tiny vents in the earcups to produce a tonally balanced sound with deep, rich bass.

Enjoy peace and quiet while you travel.

Take calls. Take control.

Bose includes a headphone cable made for select Apple® products. A three-button remote control built into the cable lets you conveniently answer, end, and switch between phone calls, control the volume of your calls or music, and pause, play, or skip through your songs. You can even enjoy hands-free conversations on your iPhone®, thanks to the remote's built-in microphone. The microphone also lets you take advantage of the voice control feature found on many of the latest iPhone, iPod® and iPad® models. Just hold down the button and say your command.

A comfortable listening experience

The earcups feature a plush cushion material that feels great. Plus, their around-the-ear design helps further seal out distracting noises. An adjustable headband helps ensure comfortable listening for hours on end, making these headphones great for long trips. You also get convenient portability — the earcups fold flat for easy storage in the included carry case. The single-sided cord helps resist tangles, and you can even disconnect the cord altogether and just let the QuietComfort® 15 headphones wrap your ears in soothing, restful silence.

Highlights:

  • comfortable, lightweight, around-the-ear design
  • includes detachable headphone cable with inline remote for iPhone®/iPod®/iPad® control and microphone for hands-free iPhone conversations and Voice Control with select Apple products

    Features

Overview: The Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones feature exclusive Bose advancements in noise reduction technology, allowing you to hear less noise and more of your music and movies. It offers a lightweight fit that stays comfortable for hours.

In-Line Remote Control: The QC15 headphones include two cables, one with an in-line remote control and microphone, the other without. The in-line remote is compatible with select iPods, iPhones, and iPads. Controls include volume, skip forward or backward, play, pause, accept call, reject call, end call, and engage Voice Control (with compatible iPods). Compatible iPhone/iPods include iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 2nd generation iPod classic (120GB), 3rd generation iPod classic (160GB, introduced in 2009), 2nd/3rd/4th generation iPod touch, 4th/5th/6th generation iPod nano, 3rd/4th generation iPod shuffle, and iPad/iPad 2.

Triport Acoustic Headphone Structure: TriPort acoustic headphone structure, another Bose exclusive, features tiny vents in the earcups to enable a tonally-balanced audio performance; including reproduction of deep, low notes from relatively small and lightweight headphones.

Active Equalization: Active equalization electronically tunes the headphones' frequency response, enabling outstanding audio performance.

Improved Noise Reduction: The Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones offer significantly improved noise reduction across a wider range of frequencies. Proprietary Bose innovations now use microphones both inside and outside each earcup to sense and reduce more of the sounds around you.

Redesigned Ear Cushions: Redesigned ear cushions use new materials in a proprietary design to establish a critical acoustical seal; helping to further reduce noise while providing a comfortable fit.

Single/Detachable Audio Cable: The Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones utilize a single, detachable audio cable to offer greater convenience than standard Y-cables.

Fold-Flat Earcups: Fold-flat earcups rotate 90-degrees for easy storage and portability in the included case.

Slim Carrying Case: The Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones come with a slim carrying case to help protect the headphones and accessories during travel.

    Quiet Sound

Written By GSXR2004, Coloroado on Tuesday, January 08, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I started looking for noise reduction headphones the day after I booked my latest long flight. After trying other noise reduction headphones I bought these Bose for the simple reason that they were combination of noise reduction and sound quality I could find at any price. While they do not completely remove the sound of an airplane they make it much more tolerable for long trips. The noise reduction in my office work environment is outstanding. The sound quality is good fairly flat response, not like my studio headphones but quiet good none the less and better than other noise canceling ones I have tried. The case that comes with them does a great job and not only has room for the headphones but there is enough room for a MP3 player as well so you have everything you need to tune out the world and tune into some good music.
    Pros:
Comfort, Noise Reduction, and comfort. Battery life is long. Good case.
    Cons:
    None found yet.

    A world of my own

Written By Ebeneezer, Huntington Beach, CA on Sunday, December 30, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My gym is raucous. They play terrible music, and they play it loud. My Bose Quiet Comforts allow me to dwell in a world of sound that's all my own. I'm insulated from the obstreperous youth that seem to dictate the terms of our lives with their juveniles taste. I get to savor Dvorak, Dexter Gordon, Brubeck and Telleman while I'm in the weight room. Then to the elliptical machine where I read without distraction as my headphones play white noise and seal out the surrounding aural chaos. They're life-savers. When I'm listening to music, it's clean and clear; when I'm on white noise, I'm on my own. They're a great investment in enjoyment and sanity.
    Pros:
Superb sound quality, good fit, easy to use.
    Cons:
I haven't yet figured out how to change the pads when they start deteriorating from the sweat.

    Excellent Headphones

Written By JeffL, Los Angeles on Tuesday, December 25, 2012

You expect the best form Bose, and these phones deliver. My third pair of headphones from Bose, these have the best sound yet, and are very comfortable. I still rate the on-ear Bose headphones as more comfortable than these surround-ear phones. But these are way more comfortable than the previous phones of this type from Bose.
    Pros:
    Sound quality; battery

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought those as. Birthday present for my husband, whose birthday happened to be the day before we flew 2,000 miles. He loved them, said that they were very comfortable, and very effective. In regards to the baby that cried the entire two and a half hours of one leg of the trip, he said he never heard him. The cost was definitely worth not having to listen to him whine about a crying baby, or be all grumpy from the cabin noise. If he is happy, I am much more comfortable.
    Pros:
    Comfortable, efficient, sound quality.
    Cons:
A little pricey unless you are very picky about sound quality

Got Bose QC-15 after a lot of research

Written By James, Bethel, AK on Saturday, December 08, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had multiple sets of headphones, both noise-cancelling and not (Sennhesers, Sony, and Grados), and have high expectations of good sound quality and noise-cancelling ability. I did a lot of research for noise-cancelling headphones, and everywhere I looked, it pointed to the Bose QC-15. After all of the hype, I finally took the "plunge" and paid the price for the Bose. I did not like to pay this much for these, but the other competitors, such as Sennheiser, Beats, Sony (what a joke!) and Klipsch, (among others) were equally expensive, if not more, but neither one could beat the reviews of the Bose from all of my research. After receiving the Bose QC-15, I must say that the sound quality was relatively good, even though I felt that the base was a bit "muddy" and the highs were a bit on the harsh side, but overall, very comparable to my Senheisers. It did not meet the sound quality however of my Grado's, but I feel that its closeness to it, along with some very good noise-cancelling abilities, it was more than enough for me! I do have a couple of drawbacks so far with the QC-15, and it is the very thin cord that come with the headphones, and the excessive use of plastic components in the construction of the headphones. Having said all of this, I am still willing to recommend the Bose QC-15. The package as a whole works to my expectations and demands of good sound and excellent noise-canceling. So if this is what you are wanting, you might as well go with the Bose!
    Pros:
Great noise-cancelling ability Comfortable "Cool" looking
    Cons:
Thin Cord Built with too much plastic...quality issue?

Written By VickiW, Derby, KS on Wednesday, November 28, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these after much debate. Wasn't sure it would be worth the price. Instead, I got a bargain!!!! I flew from Kansas to Chicago to Italy. This Bose headset was a lifesaver. When I wasn't listening to music, which sounded just as great as my Bose Acoustic Wave at home, I was sleeping. The 'noise reduction' feature is amazing. I highly recommend these. I haven't tried them mowing the yard yet,but will next spring.
    Pros:
Lightweight, comfortable (I even have problems with earmuffs as I have a small head), the protective case is an added plus!
    Cons:
    Hmmmmm......can't think of a thing!

Not the best by any means

Written By CaseyJones, Des Moines, IA on Friday, November 16, 2012

These are the headphones people buy when they want to spend this much to think they're cool, but haven't actually listened to other headphones at the same price. Sennheiser, Grado, AKG...they all leave these headphones in the dust. Be an educated consumer before you buy. I returned these and went back to some $90 Grado's that I bought 10 yrs ago.
    Pros:
I did get comments from people when I was using these out in public. But these people didn't strike me as particularly knowing anything about music or sound reproduction. More like, "yeah those Bose are cool, they must have cost a lot of money"
    Cons:
There is absolutely no detail on the extreme high, or low end of the musical spectrum. Mid bass is muddy. The noise cancellation feature leaves a thickness to everything that obscures the music.

They sounds great and all, but for less than half the price you could get the same quality in something that isn't BOSE! What a waste of money!!
    Pros:
    Sound quality
    Cons:
Overpriced when Sennheiser makes headphones for under $100 that sound just as good!

    Bose headphone at its best

Written By Allen Njoku, West Hempstead New York on Saturday, November 10, 2012

This is my first Bose Headphone. I have tried so many brands in my years of using earphones and headphones but this one has separated itself from others. The noise cancelling is perfect. I couldn't hear the engine noise of Air Bus A380 from New York to Paris and all the noise around the house with kids compared to when I used to use Sony , Dr. Dre, etc. This masterpiece is a separation of excellence to some good quality product. Wear it for hours without pain. It is light weight and very comfortable. Besides, the blue color on this has made this Limited Edition an envy to those who use the silver, white or black version. With this headphone, you live in your own world with only what you want to hear.
    Pros:
    comfortable, painless. It is Bose.
    Cons:
    Not at this time.

    As expected!

Written By Nice color, New York new york on Monday, November 05, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The headset is the same, te case is nice and blue, kinda unique when all other business class seat takers have the silver model. The color concept is cool, but the phone attachment cord is not. It has that cheap plastic feel to it instead of the nice rubber like flexi feel. Improve the remote cord and the volume controller to be a little more bold and you have a winning combo.
    Pros:
    Noise cancellation and cool color
    Cons:
The remote cord stinks, feels very cheap, not worth 30 bucks!
