Boston Acoustics

Our take on the Boston Acoustics SE75

by Jo Greene

If the dull, fuzzy music coming from your car's current system is making you dread getting trapped in traffic, a pair of Boston Acoustics SE speakers can transform your ride into a safe haven.

Boston Acoustics designed the SE75 4"x6" 2-way speakers to make your favorite music sound clean and natural in your ride, and they use proven materials that'll stand up to life on the road. These speakers feature a sturdy copolymer woofer cone teamed up with a durable butyl rubber surround to deliver strong performance with minimal distortion. The carbon-injected polymer dome 3/4" tweeter gives you clear, focused highs that stay smooth, even when you turn the volume up.

The unique contoured tweeter plane guides high-frequency output to create a wider listening "sweet spot," so you'll hear more detail from the driver seat even if your speakers aren't firing directly at you. Boston's extensive research and testing pay off with accurate, consistent performance, so you can enjoy reliable, lifelike sound whenever you drive.

Highlights:

  • 2-way 4"x6" speakers (pair)

    Features

Tweeter: Each speaker uses a 3/4" carbon injected polymer Type-S3 dome tweeter with a neodymium motor structure. The Ferrofluid cooling increases power handling. Boston's CATB (Contoured Asymmetrical Tweeter Baffle) improves the off-axis response of the tweeter, and its asymmetrical shape makes the baffle acoustically invisible to the woofer, keeping the frequency response from the woofer flatter and smoother than conventional designs.

Woofer: The copolymer woofer cone and durable butyl rubber surround stand up to the harsh automotive environment.

Crossover: Each speaker in Boston's SE line features a specifically tuned crossover to deliver the best transition between the woofer and tweeter.

Wow... So much better then expected fom such a small speaker! Very clear and crisp sound! 2001 Chevy S10 dash speaker direct replacement but it's like night and day compared to stock speaker. Very satisfied. I matched them with some Polk 6.5" on doors and a 10" single bazooka sub. Behind the seat. Sounds awesome!
    Pros:
Crisp clear sound, evn when I crank up my kenwood!
    Cons:
It's a 4x6 so dont expect any bass... That's what the sub is for.

These speakers also fit in the dash of my 93 gmc pick-up. these bostons speakers blow me away I did not expext this much speaker for such a low price. When I had my original factory stereo replaced i had them leave the fatory dash speakers in and I was going to buy and install these myself. So I pick up my truck and I was really enjoying having a working radio again and the sound was so much better wiyh the door mounted kenwood 6.5 speakers they installed with little contribution from the factory dash speakers.Three days afterwards my 4.5 bostons arrive and with evryting I need to install them so I did so in no time at all. When all was said and done I turned on me new bad boy and WOW these speakers were louder and more clear than the kenwoods short of the bass level. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
    Pros:
    crisp and clean.
    Cons:
    little bass

    Fantastic coaxials...

Written By Adam, Springfield, IL on Friday, May 04, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These sound absolutely amazing. Hands down the best pair of 40 dollar speakers out there. They will take much more than the 35 rms that they are rated for too. Mine were running off an Eclipse amplifier and getting at least 50 rms each(probably more) and loving it. No distortion, crystal clear, solid mids and clear, un-harsh highs. These are a great deal.
    Pros:
    Crystal clear. Loud. Underrated.
    Cons:
May not fit, check clearence guide.

i put these in the back of my gmc sierra to replace the factory speakers. i have a alpine hu and infinity ref in the front and these speakers sound great, even at higher volume. it is still only a 4x6 speaker so you wont get too much out of it but there is a huge improvement over factory.

    clarity, price

    4x6 boston acoustic

Written By bob, gallatin, tn on Thursday, April 26, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2000 jeep wrangler and these speakers fit perfect with the adapters. For the money I guess they are worth it. I blew one of my factory 4x6 dash speakers and had to get another. I ended up getting these and some Boston Acoustic 5 1/4 for the sound bar for less than $90. The over all sound is about what the factory speakers put out. I was told I would have a highly noticable difference but I give it about slight noticable difference in the sound over the factory speakers. If your a looking for a highly noticable difference in sound you need an amp and some higher end speakers. Crutchfield has the equipment for a good price you just need to spend some more money.
    Pros:
worth the money, easy to install with adapters, fast delivery
    Cons:
    factory speaker sound at best

These speakers sound incredible. They are very affordable and fit very well for my application.Crisp clear sound accurate sound reproduction.I would recommend these to anyone looking to upgrade from stock but i would strongly suggest adding a sub too if not already.
    Pros:
excellent sound, fit well, mounting hardware comes in handy
    Cons:
adapter plates would be good and electrical spade connectors. Not much bass response

These are the 3rd pair of speakers I've put in my dash. First set were Clarion, they blew out after 2 weeks. 2nd set were Pioneers, they only lasted a couple of weeks as well. I spent over $100 on both previous sets, these cost me alot less. These are by far the best performing, best sounding speakers so far. It's been a month, they're going strong, and I don't foresee any problems, as they can actually handle the power that they are rated for. I love them.
    Pros:
    No complaints, they sound great.

    Read Before Buying!

Written By Alero the Camero, St. Louis on Monday, April 02, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a very good speaker for the money. If there is any consideration, I would decide fast, as Boston Acoustics is leaving the car audio business and the remaining stock may go fast. But down to the important stuff. The produce very nice mids and highs, but as compared to my stock 4 x 6's in the front, they did not produce as near the amount of bass. It did however have less distortion than my stock speakers. I have not decided on a sub woofer yet, or even if i will get one, but if you do have one, these speakers would fit you very well. Overall a nice speaker, but not what I am looking for. I think i may go for the Boston plate speakers that fit a 4 x 6 front door hubs. Who knows. I can say though, that the Boston SE95 are a VERY nice speaker as i have purchased them for my rear deck 6 x 9's. If your looking for a little more bass response, these are perfect. Take it from me, it honestly sounds like you have a sub in the trunk. If you looking for more bass, go with those, you WILL NOT be disappointed.
    Pros:
Very nice mids and highs, less distortion with high bass and volume.
    Cons:
Less bass response than you might think...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced stock dash speaker for Chevy s10, even though Crutchfield said they didnt have any replacements. Dropped right in and had enough clearance for both magnet and tweeter. Bought these and the Boston SE60 components at less than HALF price, VERY HAPPY. Sound is good, but am still running off the stock deck. Will update later with Kenwood Excelon head unit when it arrives. GREAT SERVICE and fast, FREE shipping, thanks Crutchfield!
    Pros:
ease of installation, price and sound
    Cons:
are we talking about the speakers or our government?

very clear sound and they still put out some good bass... I compared them to the factory 6.5's in my chevy silverado and they sound way better...I am getting some SE60 Boston components for the front doors from Crutchfield and later I will get a 4ch amp for them to complete the system...I already have 2 JL subs powered by a KENWOOD amp that I bought here also (:...GREAT 4'X6" SPEAKER BY THE WAY!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

VERY,very clear sounding! I installed these in my 2012 Silverado, it is only a two door soo these are mounted in the pillar right behind my head and you can hear the highs perfectly! I need to add a amp and sub woofer to these and it will be awesome. Installing these sucked for my application as a lot of modifying was needed to install-they did not have a mounting bracket for these. I have the 65's in the front doors and a Kenwood head unit.
    Pros:
    Crisp & Clear
    Cons:
    Not best for my application.

    A fair choice

Written By CF, GA on Sunday, January 29, 2012
Installed in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, these are decent speakers if you like clear mid- to high-range frequencies, but they really have little to offer on the low-end compared to the factory-issue front door speakers on a 2004 Grand Am (without Monsoon system). In my particular case, the factory speakers had to go because they were developing age-related issues, else-wise I would have likely returned these speakers.

However, if you have a powered subwoofer somewhere in the vehicle, I'd bet these speakers would make you very happy as replacements for your factory door speakers, as they really do perk up the mids and highs well. I myself am planning to get a powered sub later this year to fill in the missing lows.
    Pros:
Clear Mids and Highs: better than my factory speakers in this regard.
    Cons:
Muddy low-frequencies: worse than my factory speakers in this regard.
