Metra

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • factory amp shield ground (connect to receiver chassis if engine noise is heard)
  • power antenna turn-on
  • factory amplifier turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional SWIC adapter is required & sold separately.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The harness was to have wiring or the steering wheel did not have wires to install, so I guess I will have to order another.

Needs a few more wires

Written By Mike C, Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, January 04, 2013
Installed in a 1999 Buick LeSabre
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Serves the basic audiophiles needs. All the necessary wiring to connect the audio device to your vehicle harness. That said most cars usually have additional options like steering controls and odd little features the factory radio may handle. Throwing a few extra universal wires in the kit would be a bonus. I ended up buying a second to pull out pins to connect a steering adapter module.

Wiring Harness.

Written By John, Boston, MA. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Help to make do-it-yourself installation of a aftermarket radio real easy. Joined the harness that came with the new head unit with this harness using Posi-Product connectors the night before installing it into the car. Allow the install to proceed quickly and smoothly. Good documentation.
Pros:
Documentation was right on. Made for solid connections, Allowed for performing the wiring tasks before even opening up the dash.
Cons:
none.

Wiring Harness

Written By Jeff, Ft Lauderdale, FL on Monday, May 28, 2012
Installed in a 1995 Buick LeSabre
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The wiring harness plugged into the stock radio connection perfectly. All it took was a few minutes with a soldiering gun and dome shrink tube to attach to the new radio (yes, I know it can be done with butt connectors or wire nuts, but I like to do things right). The harness allowed for directly plugging into the stock GM radio harness without modification to the car's wiring.
Pros:
The harness allows for connecting a modern stereo into the stock car wiring without modifying the car's wiring. It's just a simple connection of the harness to the new stereo's adapter and then plug right into the car's stock wiring harness. No cutting of the stock wiring!
Cons:
None

Harness fits perfectly

Written By Mark D, Huntersville, NC on Friday, September 02, 2011
Installed in a 1998 Buick Regal
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I soldered the radio harness to this harness and all I had to do was plug the completed harness into the back of the radio and the car harness and I was in business. Crutchfield makes installations easy! I remember the days when I had to cut the factory plug off the car harness and then figure out which wire was which, and then try to solder it all together in a confined space. I don't miss those days.

almost perfect

Written By Stacy, Venice, FL on Tuesday, February 17, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this a 4 instead of a five since it did not have a lead for one of the wires I needed to connect to. The factory connector has a lead for the steering wheel controlls, but this harness omits that wire. Other than that it works just fine (01 intrigue)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Thank you for making the wiring harness so easy to install. All the color coding mates perfectly. Also, really like the extra power lead. Made so much easier to install additional component.
Fourth wiring harness I've used from Crutchfield. All mated to receiver and factory harness with NO problems.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great for my 95 Oldsmobile. Made my install a SNAP!! I would recommend this over cutting off your current harness, that way if you sell the car, just unplug this and plug you factory stereo right back in.
