Our take on the Tsunami Litewave Series PP92UM-CAP

by Buck Pomerantz

With Tsunami capacitors, you'll never have to worry about getting enough power to the amplifiers in your high-end mobile audio system. This Litewave Series 2-farad cap stores up a reservoir of power, and delivers it exactly when your amps, subs, and speakers need it most.

The blue LCD meter shows you just how much juice your cap is putting out, while blue flashing LEDs add a cool look to your installation. An audible warning lets you know if the voltage is too low or too high.

Highlights:

  • 2-farad capacitor (24-volt surge)
  • blue LCD meter
  • flashing blue LEDs
  • audible low/high-voltage warning
  • 3-15/16"W (3-3/4" without bracket) x 9-3/4 x 3-3/4"D
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

    Overview

Overview: The overall response of your audio system will be enhanced with the use of capacitors due to their ability to store a large amount of current and discharge it quickly to supplement your amplifier's power supply during high current demand (bass note). The Tsunami capacitor is a logical addition to your system due to the fact that automotive batteries aren't designed to deliver the current to satisfy the requirements of high powered audio components. It can also filter AC voltage induced in the system by the amplifier's power supply which could cause objectionable noise. One Farad of capacitance is recommended for each 1,000 watts of amplifier power, but you can never have too much capacitance for any system.

    Features

Display: The Tsunami PP92UM-CAP Power Capacitor features a blue digital volt meter.

Protection Warning: The PP92UM-CAP features a high/low voltage warning and reverse voltage protection alarm.

Auto Turn-On/Off: The Tsunami Power Capacitor features current sensing auto turn-on with auto turn-off timer.

Quality Construction: The Power Capacitor features a silver brushed anodized case and satin nickel-plate solid-brass terminal blocks. The terminal blocks and support 1/0 AWG or 4 AWG wire.

    Installation

Installation: On the top of the capacitor there are four set-screw terminals, two positive and two negative. The positive terminals are connected to the battery (and fused at the battery) and to the positive input on the amp. The negative is grounded to the car's chassis.

Charging Bulb: The capacitor comes with a charging bulb to assist you in initially charging the capacitor.

    Specifications

    Specifications:

    • Capacitance: 2.0 Farad
    • Maximum Operating DC Voltage: 18-volt / 24-volt surge
    • ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance): < 6.50m ohm

Nice cap. I have ZERO noise and no speaker fade at all no matter how taxing the
music I'm playing is on my PDX-M6 and 10" Alpine Type-R set to 2ohm

    IT WORKS!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have read a lot of negative reviews online about capacitors. And
either they were incorrectly installed, and/or, the person had a
lousy alternator to begin with. Otherwise 1 of the "the big 3"
would not even be necessary in most cases. I am rinning a 1200watt
    amp and 2-580 watt amps, along with 4 subs,on a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB
head-unit. And before adding this capacitor, my headlights would
flicker when I turn the volume up. So after I installed this
capacitor, I did a test. With my vehicle in the garage, I turned
out all the lights, turned my headlights on, then turned the volume
up. No more flickering! Great product, easy to install, would
    recommend it to anyone.

    Tsunami Litewave Series PP92UM-CAP

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The product does everything it claimed to, and the music sounds great. Having said that, if I
were to purchase another, I would look for a model with a remote turn on wire. This unit
"turns on" when it senses voltage fluctuations. It has a bright blue display that shows system
voltage. When I get out of the car, the door light causes a voltage change, and the display
lights up, bringing my car attention I may not want it to have depending on the
neighborhood. This is taking all of the stealth out of my stealth install.

Also, the instructions said to charge the unit using a resistor. No resistor was included.
Instead there was a "charging bulb". The crutchfield guys got me headed in the right path,
but the instructions with the unit really should be updated. If I buy another I will look for an
internal charge protection feature. Fussing with the bulb every time you reconnect gets old.

    Great Product

Written By Ron T., Arlington Va on Thursday, November 11, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had just recently purchased 2 P3 Rockford Fosgates pushing 400w each and a
800w amp also by Rockford. I needed a capacitor to help keep constant power to
the subs but really didnt know much about them. So I called in and talked to one
of the advisors and he suggested the 2 farad Tsunami Litewave series cap. I was
then informed that for every Farad it could withstand 500w which was what I
needed. He was certainly on point with that. I put it to the test once I got the
cap. No cut offs at all!! Great product, glad I bought it. So whoever says it
doesn't work, its either defective, installed wrong or they have the wrong
wiring. I have 4 gauge wires going in and out of the cap, which it asked for.
    Thanks Crutchfield

    Worth the money

Written By Anonymous, Tampa on Monday, September 20, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this cap and my sub amp is running off of it. I didn't really think
that having one of these would make a difference; I thought it's just something
that professionals have in their system to make people think it's really
powerful. I was wrong. I turn my system up and you can't even tell from my
trucks electrical system that I am pushing some serious juice through it. I
would recomend this cap because it can handle all the power that a normal,
everyday sound system is going to utilize. It's free power for your amplifiers!
    Why wouldn't you want one?

    Tsunami Litewave Series PP92UM-CAP

Great product and provides the perfect amount of power to my amp! Ever since I hooked up this product, my lights in my truck never flickered again, nor did I ever lose power to the subs/amp ever again. The LED display is also a great tool to have. For the extra money, I upgraded to this model over the 1.0 farad model just to be safe to ensure I had enough power in my truck and I think you should do the same.
