Grado

Our take on the Grado iGrado

by Kristen Schaub

Accurate, detailed sound with your iPod®

Why should you have to sacrifice sound quality just because you like to listen to your music on the go? With the iGrados, you won't have to. These street-style headphones were designed specifically for today's portable music devices, like an iPod or other MP3 player. The least expensive model in Grado's Prestige series, the iGrados deliver surprisingly satisfying sound from a design that's stylish, lightweight, and affordable.

iGrado

High-performance internal components for renowned Grado sound

The iGrados use the same drivers found in Grado's more expensive SR60i headphones. You'll hear incredibly detailed vocals and instruments, along with pronounced bass. The high-quality copper voice coils ensure the sound is smooth and dynamic without any distortion. And the on-ear earcups feature an "open-air" design with metal mesh backings — it means that air passes through while you're listening, giving you a more open, natural listening experience.

On-the-go design

The iGrados feature a stylish, lightweight behind-the-neck headband and weigh in at just 3 oz. They're perfect for listening to your music on the way to class or at your cubicle. The 40" copper cord ensures a clear signal transmission and terminates in a stereo mini plug that works with most portable music players, laptops, and more.

Highlights:

  • on-ear design with padded earcups and behind-the-neck headband
  • open-air design for spacious, low-distortion sound
  • hand-picked dynamic drivers with neodymium magnets
  • ultra-high purity, long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen-free copper voice coils ensure accuracy
  • frequency response: 20-20,000 Hz (±1 dB)
  • sound pressure level (at 1mW): 100 dB
  • impedance: 32 ohms
  • 40" UHPLC copper cable with 1/8" stereo mini plug
  • weight: 3 oz. (without cable)
  • warranty: 120 days (does not include earpads)
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Features

Vented diaphragm: Grado headphones have a vented diaphragm design for a large, airy, three-dimensional sound.

Drivers: The diaphragm is made of a low mass polymer, developed with the compliance of the suspension in mind to achieve the desired low frequency response. The diaphragm's total mass is designed to provide a full 20 kHz bandwidth, while avoiding break-up at lower frequencies. The left and right drivers are matched to within 0.1 dB for exact imaging.

Voice Coil: The iGrado's voice-coils are wound from ultra-high purity, long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper. This high conductivity copper yields a clear transmission and minimizes coloration, resulting in smooth, clean and dynamic sound output.

Connecting Cord: Grado also uses UHPLC copper in the cable.

Specifications:

  • Frequency Response: 20 Hz to 20 kHz
  • Impedance: 32Ω
  • Maximum Input Power: 150 mW
  • Sensitivity (1 kHz): 100 dB @ 1m

These Are Not For Adults

Written By Mann, Puyallup, WA on Wednesday, May 01, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Even with the behind the head design, these are too short to fit an adult head at any angle. I wish I knew how they sounded, but there is no way to get the earpieces anywhere near my ears.
Pros:
The sound quality seems decent if I listen with one ear at a time.
Cons:
These should be labelled as children's headphones. They do not fit adult heads, this is my first and last Grado product.

Great sound

Written By DanB, Rockville, MD on Monday, April 29, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these to replace a 3 year old pair of Sennheiser PX 100 that fell out of my car and got driven over. The sound is outstanding, great bass response, but you have to be aware that someone sitting next to you will hear your music, even at relatively low volume. They feel slightly tight when brand new, but I'm hoping they will loosen up a smidge. I wear glasses, so that might be having an impact
Pros:
Nice sound, solid bass response
Cons:
Can be a little tight on the ears. Open air, so someone sitting next to you can hear your music

Good sound but disposable

Written By Music guy, Wi on Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Igrado headphones sound excellent but......the cord is very flimsy and it will wear out. I tossed mine away after the cord wore out with light use. Fit is uncomfortable but I could live with it. Advise: Go for the Koss Portapro headphones.
Pros:
Excellent sound
Cons:
Disposable, cheaply made

Written By Tony Valentin, San Juan,PR on Sunday, November 11, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound for the price, not fancy style but superb on what's important , the sound. GRADO should find the way to make the headphone adjustable to head sizes.
Pros:
Great sound, deep bass, well defined highs
Cons:
not so comfortable for big head size guys like me.

A+

Written By Bob x, Mapleville NC on Saturday, August 11, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read alot on these before purchase so I knew without a doubt I needed these. With that said my background was in music and not sure if the pair I have are truely broken in yet . The sound quality is great , almost perfect . I can say that because I put an old studio cut on my pod and I felt just like my old Marshal tube amp was next to me... These are clean and warm , most of all no pressure felt in my ear. All air throw is behind speaker, I know weird , I also tried cupping back of speakers to see if it got better , result was no but fortunately the pure sound goes right were you want it. Most reviews said comfort is un-natural , yes it is but I am very active when I wear these and unlike all my my other phones these have not fallen off. I have compared these to others at other stores and I am pleased with these , seems all the rest focus on muddy bass , as I have said these reproduce very close reproduction of intended sound , as far I as I know!
Pros:
49$ , length of cord ,and stay on your head comfort . Sound reproduction is warm and acurate
Cons:
I need to upgrade components to keep up with sweet phones lol. Not really a con but I don't think Grado gets enough credit for these phones !

Sounds great but.....

Written By Duke, NY on Thursday, May 24, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Igrado headphones deal with one thing, sound quality. They are not incredibly comfortable but they work. There is not one thing sexy about them. They don't come with a bag and can't be folded for travel. They do however sound great. For the price, the sound quality makes them worth alot more. They did however sacrifice.looks, comfort and portability to give you a great sound. I think they are worth the cash but I wouldn't make these the ultimate to have. A nice pair to have with a great sound

Buy these

Written By Scott H, New Jersey on Sunday, December 11, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One remarkable thing about their sound is how they capture the sense of hall space in acoustic recordings. In one recording of the Bach St. Matthew Passion, for example, I could actually hear the tenor voice of the "evangelist," who was positioned on the left of the stereo panorama, reflected from behind my head (honestly!) off a right rear wall. Most headphones seem incapable of playing back this kind of detail which is too bad because that's what's responsible for most of the spine-tingling realism in the playback of a recording. The iGrados give you that at a reasonable price along with a smooth, realistic, dense, articulate, full-spectrum sound that isn't "pushed" in either the top or bottom ends.
Pros:
The iGrados are worth a try if you truly put a premium on quality sound. The iGrados can be used during exercise and will stay securely on your head, I suspect, even when bungie jumping. Unlike many with an 1/8" plug, they sound more like high-end audiophile headphones.
Cons:
The spiring-loaded, behind-the-head design does put a serious squeeze on the ears and head, but nothing I couldn't get used to. I seem to have suffered no impairments or loss of... loss of... I can't quite recall the right word... but after two weeks of using iGrados I can take a hat one half size smaller. Apart from their vice-grip feel, iGrados don't give the impression of being particularly moisture resistant, so I expect to go though more than one pair of these in my lifetime.
