Crank up the volume with this capable 1,000-watt powered subwoofer
The SmartSub® SS2.2 powered subwoofer delivers tremendously deep, powerful bass with audiophile-pleasing accuracy and musicality. THIEL loaded this heavy hitter with two 10" drivers and a 1,000-watt amplifier, for effortless handling of even the most demanding bass passages in your favorite music and movies. And the potent SS2.2 uses exclusive technology to ensure exceptional performance, no matter where you place it in the room. Unlike traditional subs, it doesn't have a built-in crossover so be sure to connect it to your home theater receiver's dedicated LFE (Low Frequency Effects) output, or use it with the THIEL PX05 passive crossover for full bass reproduction in an all-THIEL speaker system.
Precision engineering for awe-inspiring bass
Each woofer consists of a rigid aluminum driver and a heavy cast aluminum basket. These solidly constructed drivers maintain the proper shape as they move, for crystal-clear sound reproduction, even when you crank up the volume. A motor structure consisting of a short, 6-layer voice coil sitting inside a large, double-stacked magnet drives each woofer. Unlike the voice coils found in most speakers that extend outside the magnet, the deliberately short voice coil always "sees" the optimum magnetic field as it travels back and forth. This eliminates distortion caused by variances in magnetic strength. It all adds up to thunderous bass that's extremely punchy, musical, and precise.
Clear sound even when things get hot
Heat is the main enemy of any electronic component, and subwoofers are no exception. The heat generated by a subwoofer's voice coil can change its output and accuracy. THIEL equipped the SS2.2 with special circuitry that constantly monitors the voice coil's temperature, then compensates for these changes resulting in more dynamic and faithful low-frequency reproduction.
Smooth bass response no matter where you put the sub
Placing any subwoofer against the wall or in a corner will produce uneven bass response due to dips and spikes at certain frequencies. THIEL ingeniously solved this problem with patented room-correction circuitry. Simply use the controls on the back of the sub to dial in the distance to the rear wall and nearest side wall, and the sub automatically calibrates itself to correct for boundary problems. You'll hear smooth and balanced bass no matter where you put the sub in your room. Best of all the SS2.2 does this compensation without microphones, equalizers, or complicated measurements.
