Pioneer's SIR-PNR2 satellite radio lets you enjoy SIRIUS programming in your car. It plugs directly into your satellite radio-ready Pioneer in-dash stereo, and comes with the antenna you'll need to get reception.

You'll see SIRIUS info such as song title, artist name, and channel name on your stereo's display. A pass-through connection allows you to keep a CD changer or other Pioneer component connected. Note: A subscription to SIRIUS is also required. Satellite radio service is available only within the lower 48 states — not available in Hawaii or U.S. territories.     Overview: When used with a Satellite Radio Ready Pioneer head unit, this tuner allows you to receive SIRIUS satellite radio programming in your vehicle. In addition to this tuner and antenna, you must have a subscription to SIRIUS Radio to receive SIRIUS digital satellite radio signals.

    Note: Satellite radio service is available only within the continental United States. Service is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.

    SIRIUS Satellite Radio: SIRIUS Satellite Radio features more than 120 channels of original programming beamed coast-to-coast, including 65 channels of commercial-free, digital-quality music, and news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming.

    Compatibility: This tuner is compatible with 2004 and newer Pioneer satellite radio-compatible in-dash receivers that use the IP-Bus protocol. There are two different levels of compatibility: Full Control and External Unit Control. Units that control this receiver through "External Unit Control" have some limitations in operation and display, compared to Full Control models.

    • GameAlert: The receiver notifies you when your favorite team starts playing. Favorite teams are selected in the menu.
    • Game Information (Game Zone): The scores and game status involving your favorite teams are scrolled in the display.
    • MyMix: The receiver will notify you when your favorite songs are playing on other channels.

    Note: Check specific models for compatibility to these features.

    CD Changer Pass-Thru: The SIRIUS radio tuner uses the CD changer input on the Pioneer head unit. If you also want to use a CD changer, there is a CD changer pass-through connection on the SIRIUS radio tuner, so they can be daisy chained together.

    SIRIUS Antenna: The SIRIUS antenna has a powerful magnetic base that allows you to mount the antenna on the roof or trunk lid of your vehicle. The antenna needs to be positioned in such a way that it will be free of mechanical and line-of-sight obstructions.

    My Unit Lasted A Little Longer - 3 Weeks

    The idea of a head unit working with Sirius was great. Unfortunately, Pioneer was not the team to have create it.

    I'm very particular and careful with my installs. This one was installed in the salon of my 425 Sabre Sailboat. Air conditioning, flat screen TV, ideal conditions, no moisture or heat. It never gets over 80 degrees. I would hate to see this work in an automobile.

    Pioneer's customer service is less than dismal. Try and get them after hours or even during normal hours and it's a major ordeal.

    I wish it had worked out. Now I just pay Sirius for my half year subscription and at the same time have no satellite radio to listen to. I can't wait for the XM Sirius merger. Maybe we can get the interface right then.

    The device broke after two weeks. Simply tapping on the box caused the antenna signal to be lost. I suspect the device was poorly designed. Since Crutchfield was out of stock, I had to deal with Pioneer customer service for the warranty. You would be wise to avoid all Pioneer products, because if something goes wrong and Crutchfield can't help, you are out of luck.

    I couldn't begin to tell you how pleased i am with the sirius satellite radio component. The install was really easy and works flawlessly. I rarely listen to the standard radio stations any more. I would recommend this system for any vehicle. They have a wide range of music and more. The best part is, you almost never loose signal.

    I love my new Sirius radio, I was so sick of regular radio. Install was easy although I had an issue with power harness due to popping the fuse, but it worked well enough when I replaced it. Still not sure how it happened. I have seen other reviews regarding the sound, well i'm not sure what others have done but the sound in mine is great. A+

    awesome sound, disappointing display

    Sounds like my iPod cable or a CD. There's no matching the quality, and that's why you're even bothering with reading this. The problem is, on my 5900iB, I only get a single line display. So if i want to see the artist AND the song name, i have to switch display modes. Basic functionality that is sorely lacking on an otherwise perfect unit. The power cable is a bit short for my tastes as well, but it's not a deal breaker.

    The only thing that I would have liked is that the power lead was longer, it was only about a foot long. Other than that it was perfect. Thanks again Crutchfield for a great buying expierience, you are one of my favorite on-line vendors.

    I have to say, this was the easiest piece of car stereo equipment I have ever installed. The most difficult part was tucking the antenna wire underneath the weatherstripping around my rear window. If you can operate a screwdriver, you can install this. It took me no more than an hour to install, I had my SIRIUS subscription within twenty minutes, and I haven't listened to regular radio since. In fact, I will be purchasing a home unit soon. The only downside is the fact that there is no removable unit that can be taken inside. However, I travel 800+ miles per month on business, and there is honestly no better way to pass the time.
    I dislike the fact that you can't have the artist/title/etc. scrolling all at once. But seriously, it's not that difficult to push one button. With three bands of six preset stations each, there is no way to get bored with all the channels SIRIUS offers. I've also found that they play a lot of the "old-school" stuff that I really miss.
    All in all, I would recommend this unit to anyone who spends quite a bit of time in their vehicle. The sound is a lot more clear than satellite radio over an FM band, you never have to search for "clear" bandwidth when you travel, and you get reception practically everywhere. There's no choice for music lovers. Buy it, install it, enjoy it!

    I wanted the sirius tuner for Stern, NBA and NFL stations, etc. I love the service, I almost never turn on my IPOD hook up in the car, or AM FM, or even CDs. You can always find something to listen to on Sirius.

    Install was easy, except for the fact that I have about a million things hooked into my Navagation system and finding room for the box was interesting, even tho it was small. Running the antenna is the only part that is time consuming. Not hard to put in at all.

    I have the Pioneer Avic D2, and the display only gives you 2 options, ie Genre and show title, or artist and song, etc. BUT NOT ALL 4. You cant see the display like on the Starmate. Kinda stupid considering this was a 1500 Nav unit a year ago or so, and it wont even show you 4 lines of info. Furthering my dislike, You dont see the station logo's or artwork like it shows on the avic-d2 box. I guess you can see for XM... Either way, those are problems with the radio, not the tuner box or the service.

    I listen to Sirius and I like the clean install of this kit alot. This is must buy if you dont want to have 100 things stuck to your windshield, and if you want great reception. Sirius Customer service has been good also.

    Sirius Radio for a Serious Radio

    The Pioneer DEH-P5800MP is a serious radio. MP3/CD Player, AM/FM Radio and now, Sirius Satellite Radio. This tuner is one of the most cost effective ways to add Satellite Radio to your ride with an aftermarket stereo. I had heard alot about XM and Sirius, and decided Sirius was the way to go.

    The tuner installs easily, and the only real running of wires is for the antenna. I was amazed at how strong the antenna holds on to the car. In my car, all it took was taking off the paneling for the driver's side and running the wire. You can tie in the power and ground leads to the Pioneer's power and ground leads. Just connect the IP Bus cable and it works!
    All is included to get it to work too!

    It is fairly easy to use. Presets and scanning works just like the AM/FM tuner, and like the FM tuner that allows 3 FMs, the Sirius Tuner gives you 3 Siriuses. You will need them for all the channels you will love on Sirius.

    The display is partial...it only displays informaion on a small portion of the display, unlike the XM Radio Tuner (see your manual). Also, the FUNC button is confusing. If the menu was more functional, and if the display actually showed information on the ENTIRE screen, then this product would get a 5 Star rating.

    I would recommend this over an FM Modulated tuner, mainly because it was more functional, and you can drive the entire country without setting a single FM Station. I would recommend this product to anyone with a Pioneer head unit.

    I finished the install of the Pioneer SIR-PNR2 with my DEH-P4800MP last month and could not be more pleased with the entire package. 3-satellites makes it nearly impossible to lose the signal, even in heavily wooded areas such as Washington. This has never been a problem.

    The sound is very clear and close to CD; Better than any of the surrounding radio stations.

    It is only one title-heading (station, artist, song or genre, etc.), which is a minor inconvenience. But it's only one button away!

    The wires are long enough to store this product anywhere; even in an SUV. Very easy to activate. Great all-around choice!

    I was a little skeptical to buy this Pioneer SIR-PNR2 based on other reviews but thought I'd give it a try and I'm sure happy I did! I teamed this SIR-PNR2 Sirius receiver with the Pioneer DEH-P4800MP, it is a great match. No problems at all, it works great.

    What I like best is NOT needing a separate PNP satellite unit cluttering up the car. With the P4800 head unit all controls are EASY to operate, you can program 18 presets of your favorite channels, and I've found reception better then with my old Clarion Plug-N-Play unit.

    With the DEH-P4800MP head unit I get 16 characters of info display at a time and it scrolls through more if the song/title info exceeds 16 characters. I believe this is a function of the head unit you choose and not this receiver box. It is easy (1 button push) to change what info is being displayed. Also I like that the channel number is always displayed in the lower right part of the display. It would be nice if they could add a mode that made the display scroll through multiple info screens automatically like both song title and artist but I can live with the 1 button toggle among available info.

    Set up was very easy with the hardest part running the antenna wire under my carpeting. I am very impressed at how well the tiny antenna pulls in the satellite signal, it works great.

    As for sound quality, the Sirius signal is excellent, not as good as a CD of course (do to limited bandwidth of the satellite channels) but still much better then FM or AM and I LOVE the COMMERCIAL FREE Sirius service, it is wonderful.

    Not-So Amazing

    To start off, the ONLY difference between this unit, and the SIR-PNR1, is the addition of "Game Alert," (for my 980BT.. it does not support "MyMix" and I have not seen a deck that actually does support that feature. It 'supposedly' reminds you of upcoming/current games by your favorite team. This is very poorly implemented, and you can only have one team selected. I believe this is only for football, but I have not looked too far into it, since it's not quite time for season games.

    With that in mind, you must realize that this unit STILL only supports ONE-LINE of text. This means that even though you dropped tons of money on the best Pioneer deck ever, you will still see only one line of text. It's not even a whole line of text, it's actually 8-10 characters that then scroll to a limit of 16... You cannot combine Artist/Title/Channel/Composer or any of that stuff.... you can only display one at a time.

    Interface aside, the audio is perfect... well it's as perfect as Sirius can be. The audio is basically the same as a 64kbps MP3 file, or about half as good as FM... I thought my unit was defective, but after reading up extensively on satellite radio, I discovered that the technology itself is very limited, especially when a hoarde of channels are added...

    Long story short, I'd recommend a handheld unit over this, especially for Pioneer... I'd also recommend that you listen to Sirius sattelite radio in someone else's car before you buy it... it's really no where near "CD-Quality" as you have probably heard over and over again on the television and the radio.
