Our take on the SIRIUS DOT Micro Antenna

by Zak Billmeier

The slim, low-profile SIRIUS DOT micro antenna installs unobtrusively on your vehicle's roof or trunk, giving you excellent reception of the SIRIUS signal. The 1/2" tall dome antenna measures only 3-1/4" by 2-1/4", and works with any single-input SIRIUS satellite radio. Its magnetic base provides a secure mount, while the 21-foot cable is long enough for even the largest vehicles. Warranty: 90 days.

Features

Overview: The Sirius Satellite Radio Vehicle Antenna is a high-performance magnetic-mount antenna designed specifically for Sirius Satellite Radio reception. It receives signals from satellites and terrestrial repeaters simultaneously, to ensure continuous reception.

Note: In addition to the antenna, you must have a Sirius Satellite Radio tuner and a subscription to Sirius Satellite Radio in order to receive satellite radio programming.

Magnetic Base: The Sirius Magnetic Mount Vehicle Antenna has a strong magnetic mount designed to hold the antenna in place during normal driving conditions (highway/city). The magnetic base also allows for easy removal for transferring the antenna to another vehicle.

Cables: The attached 21-foot micro-cable can be routed around window moldings and through access holes more easily than conventional size cables. The micro-cable is terminated with a right-angle SMB connector.

Installation: The installation of the magnetic antenna consists of two installation steps: mounting the magnetic antenna and cover/tail on the vehicle, and routing the antenna cable through the vehicle to the Sirius radio or vehicle dock. The Sirius vehicle antenna can be mounted to the roof or trunk of most sedans, coupes, SUVs, mini-vans, trucks, and convertibles. The Sirius antenna needs to have an unobstructed area of 3-inches by 3-inches around it.

great price from crutchfield

Written By Mike R, Louisiana on Sunday, May 05, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After breaking an antenna wire on my sirius unit, I heard of antennas costing more than half of the unit and had let my subscription go, but after seeing the price here, bought and installed at same time I installed a head unit and haven't had any issues so far

Written By Dave, DC Metro area on Wednesday, November 14, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great antenna, no problems yet picking up the Sirius signal. Recommend this if you need a replacement antenna, or if you're moving your radio to a new vehicle and don't want to mess with removing the old antenna.
Pros:
Antenna lead long enough to mount in any vehicle. Detailed instructions.
Cons:
None yet.

OEM Replacement

Written By kaichoubabbit, Berwyn Heights, MD on Monday, November 12, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is sirius antenna number 3 for me, and since I didn't have the luxury of a factory warranty this time around, I resorted to a retail version. Things have changes a lot since '07, so the now-standard TRS connector doesn't work in my old Mazda sirius receiver without an adapter to connect into the FAKRA (curry, not the pink one) plug on the splitter.

After acquiring the proper adapter, this antenna seemed to be a grand-slam compared to the previous OEM antennas. No dropouts while traveling under bridges... a first in a long time. A couple days later, however, the reception became much more typical of my previous antennas. I'm hoping that it won't follow the other typical trait: needing replacement after 2 years.

I do like the low-profile nature of this antenna, and it does feel a little better built than my OEM antennas. While the magnet is strong, it still slid across the trunk lid more than I would like, so I secured it with some double-sided automotive tape... light-duty just in case I'm replacing it again down the road. It would've been nice to see that included.
Pros:
Low-profile
Cons:
Needs an adapter for older receivers, magnetic mount might not be adequate for your application

Replacement to OEM

Written By rx8b, Winston-Salem, NC on Friday, August 17, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works as advertised. The only thing that I had a concern about was the right-angle connector that was on this antennae. The factory connector was a straight inline connector. It was a very tight fit going back to the tuner box, but after a couple of tries, I finally got past the "acquiring signal" on my head unit. 2006 RX8 with Bose system factory installed.
Pros:
low profile contour, plenty of cable
Cons:
none

alternate use

Written By nutboy, Malone, NY on Friday, May 13, 2011

For you home users, this will work as a substitute for the antenna on the
portable speaker box. It plugs in and seemingly provides better reception than
the included square indoor outdoor antenna. I used it for five years on the back
of my car and it was very durable in the harsh weather of Northern NY. On the
other hand, my previous indoor/outdoor antenna fell apart in the elements.

works good

Written By sirius_user, sterling heights, mi on Thursday, June 10, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this antenna when the original sirius car kit antenna got ripped off the roof during my first car wash after it was installed. I have a 2003 S10 Blazer and had the sirius package added to my new kenwood kdc-hd545u stock replacement stereo. The installer technician said the original antenna placement on the front-middle of the roof right above the windshield would be ok. Unfortunately, the car wash rotating brush thought otherwise. So I bought this antenna from crutchfield and had it placed at the front-middle of the dash right where the base of the windshield meets the dash. The wire tucks nicely between the dash and windshield so it's hidden. The technician (same guy) made a little round metal plate that he glued to the dash and this antenna just magnetically sticks to the plate. It looks good and gets great reception. It says not to put it on the dash in the manual but it works good for me and I don't have to worry about car washes or anything else that might happen if it was on the outside of the car. I've had it about three weeks and have had great reception the whole time. Problem solved.
