Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT

by Zak Billmeier
JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT CD receiver

Local radio lovers, here's one for you
Do you listen to AM/FM radio in your car? Your favorite stations will sound better than ever if they broadcast the digital sound of HD Radio™. The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT CD receiver gives you a built-in HD Radio tuner that pumps up the FM sound quality to near-CD level, while making AM broadcasts sound like traditional FM. Since participating stations can broadcast multiple channels on the same frequency, you may find you have more choices than ever before. And it's backed by the rock-solid Arsenal two-year warranty.

The power and versatility of Bluetooth®
You may already know that Bluetooth lets you talk hands-free in the car, but now it lets you do so much more. Pair up your Android™ smartphone or Blackberry™, and you'll get some cool features — you can receive text message notification, stream music, or access Internet radio stations, depending on your phone's abilities. You can also play the audio from many other apps. Think of Bluetooth as a wireless bridge between your smartphone and your dash.

iPhone® lovers get the same features when connected via USB. JVC also lets you pair two phones at once, so there's no need to choose between your personal and business lines. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob.

Apps for Android
JVC's Android app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control receiver functions using finger swipes and gestures — for example, tap the screen to play and pause, or swipe right to skip forward a track. So pop your Android phone in a mount, and you can reach down to skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.

Control Pandora® Internet radio
JVC makes it easy to play your favorite Pandora stations. iPhone users can control Pandora when connected to the USB slot, while Android and Blackberry owners get full control of Pandora through the Bluetooth connection, depending on your phone's features.

Higher-power USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to its internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

      HD Radio + Sirius Ready

Built-in HD Radio: With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. HD Radio technology significantly improves audio quality and reception, as well as includes information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality sound with static free and clear reception.

Note: HD Radio is the system for digital AM and FM broadcasting in the U.S. More than 2,000 radio stations are broadcasting their primary signals in digital HD Radio technology, as a free service. Go to HDRadio.com to check for HD Radio stations in your area.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting, it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Text Display: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The built-in HD Radio tuner displays song title, artist and station information on the display of the JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT.

iTunes Tagging: It is possible to save the song's information (tag) from a HD Radio broadcasting station to your USB-direct connected iPod/iPhone. The songs will show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the next time you sync your iPod/iPhone. Then you can directly buy the songs you want from the iTunes Music Store. You can "tag" up to 50 songs.

Note: Your iPod/iPhone must have at least 50MB of free space to "tag" and transfer songs. iTunes 7.4 or later is required to purchase "tagged" songs.

Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the KD-AHD75BT can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Digital/Analog Tuning: You can setup the KD-AHD75BT to search both analog and digital radio stations, only HD Radio stations, or analog radio stations only.

Digital/Analog Presets: You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM digital/analog presets stations as presets (HD Radio multicast channels can also be preset). Presets can be set manually or automatically, using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM).

Radio Timer: You can tune into a preset station at a specific time regardless of the head unit's current source. You can activate the Radio Timer once, daily, or turn it completely off.

Mono Mode: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

IF Filter: You can also switch the analog tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:

      • SIRIUS: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT is compatible with the SiriusConnect Universal Tuner and Plug & Play Dock.
        • SiriusConnect Tuner: Connect the optional SC-C1 SiriusConnect vehicle tuner (item # 607SCC1) and the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item # 105KSRA100) - package # 700SIRJVC1, sold separately.
        • SiriusConnect Dock: Select dock-and-play and portable Sirius radios can be controlled using the JVC KS-SRA100 SIRIUS adapter (item # 105KSRA100) and the SC-VDOC1 dock (item # 607SCVDOC1) - package # 700JVCSIRP, sold separately.
      • XM: A portable XM satellite radio tuner can be connected to the head unit's auxiliary input.
Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.

      Built-in Bluetooth

USB Bluetooth Adapter: The JVC KD-AHD75BT comes supplied with a USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) which is pre-installed into the head unit's rear-panel USB input, making the KD-AHD75BT Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR certified. The KD-AHD75BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming.

Note: The USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) must remain plugged into the rear-panel USB port, or can also be installed in the head unit's front-panel USB port.

Bluetooth Technology: Bluetooth is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, as well as wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth enabled portable music player using the JVC in-dash CD receiver. Bluetooth wireless technology operates on a 2.4GHZ frequency band within a range of approximately 10 meters (about 33 feet).

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

      • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
      • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: Your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or digital audio player must be paired with KD-AHD75BT before hands-free & wireless operation. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled devices with the JVC head unit. You can keep two phones connected at all times (only one can be used during a call).

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC head unit. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

External Microphone: The JVC KD-AHD75BT includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 12' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.485" (depth).

Note: This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The front-panel controls of the KD-AHD75BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also features an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (front or all). During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

      • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker, the head unit's display will flash (Ring Color), and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the KD-AHD75BT's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call. You can adjust the head unit's ring color from the unit's 29 preset colors or 30,000 custom colors.
      • Dialing A Number: Using the KD-AHD75BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

        • Speed Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
        • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KD-AHD75BT. If you phonebook contains a lot of contact numbers, you fast search (+/-10, 100, or 1000) through the phonebook by using the unit's control dial. You can also do an A-Z search to scroll the downloaded phonebook. Up to 5,000 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long.
        • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
        • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the JVC head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check the message.

Note: You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KD-AHD75BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KD-AHD75BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, and Fast Forward/Rewind. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Song and Album title. The KD-AHD75BT also supports audio streaming of music apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Last.fm, Rhapsody, & Slacker) , but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

You can select Pandora stations from your station list; you can sort the station list by date or alphabetically (A-Z). You can also skip song tracks within a station. In addition, you can also give songs a thumbs up/down and bookmark songs/artists.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or smartphone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

Pandora App for iPhone: The JVC KD-AHD75BT lets you playback and control Pandora Internet Radio streamed to  your connected Apple iPhone, via the USB/iPod connector cable (included with your iPhone). To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS3 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora App from the Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

Pandora via Android or BlackBerry: The JVC KD-AHD75BT also lets you playback and control Pandora Internet Radio streamed from your Android or BlackBerry smartphone, via Bluetooth (no hard-wired connection required). Your Android or BlackBerry smartphone must have the latest version of the Pandora App from the Android Market or the BlackBerry App World. Your Android or BlackBerry smartphone must also be Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP/SPP certified and will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. In addition, you will need an active Pandora music service account.

      USB/Aux Inputs

Dual USB Ports: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT features a front-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (behind a sliding cover) and a rear-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (attached to a 45" pigtail) for connection of USB mass-storage class devices (such as a USB thumbdrive or digital audio player). The USB ports enable audio playback and control of MP3, WMA, & WAV audio files stored on portable USB mass-storage class devices. Both of the USB terminals can be connected to USB devices at the same time. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (5V/1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On. You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

Note: The rear-panel USB port comes with the KS-UBT1 Bluetooth adapter installed. The this Bluetooth adapter must remain installed for Bluetooth functionality. It can be removed to allow connection of a second USB (MSC) device.

Drive Change Mode (for BlackBerry and Android): JVC's Drive Change Mode lets you connect your Android or BlackBerry smartphone (that uses an external memory card) directly to the head unit, via USB. Drive Change Mode will let you switch between your Android or BlackBerry smartphone's internal and external memory (such as microSD Card), so you can listen to music stored on either memory. Auto Drive Router lets you record your traveled routes and store recorded data on your iPhone, using Google Maps. E-mails with map data can also be sent quickly and easily from your iPhone, letting others know where you are or where you want to meet.  You can start and stop when Auto Driver Router records your routes using the in-dash CD receiver's controls. You can also send an email template to your predetermined contacts directly from the receiver's controls. You can do all this while still listening to stored music or streamed music from your iPhone on the JVC KD-AHD75BT.

      • Drive Data: This function allows you to record routes and store them as data in your iPhone, enabling you to easily retrieve data just by selecting a route from the Saved Route List. When data is called up on your iPhone, the route being taken will be shown as a single line on the map in different colors to indicate how fast you were traveling. It is also possible to zoom in and out of maps on your iPhone, as well as see the speed and altitude of routes in a graph format on the iPhone's touchscreen. By connecting an iPhone with this app installed to the KD-AHD75BT, you can record routes via the control knobs and buttons of the in-dash head unit.
      • Here I AM: When you select the "Here I Am" function on the Auto Drive Router app, a flag showing "Here I Am?" will appear on the on-screen Google Map of your iPhone to indicate your current location. And by using a default template, an e-mail will also be created instantaneously for delivery of the map to multiple recipients. The flag can also be placed in different locations on the on-screen map of the iPhone with the "Here I Am" function being used to e-mail changes in meeting spots. When your iPhone is connected to the JVC CD receiver, your email templates can be selected and sent directly from the head unit.
Note: The JVC head unit must be set to External/App mode. All visual navigation will be displayed on your connected iPhone (not the JVC head unit). You can only control a specific number of functions from the JVC head unit. Not compatible with iPad or other iPod models.

iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad.

Note: If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

      Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-AHD75BT can play MP3/WMA files (5-320 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 255 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.

Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD, so you can easily access your music. The Track/Folder List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc.

Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KD-AHD75BT offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.

      • Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current track repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function)

      Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-AHD75BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-AHD75BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-AHD75BT are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-AHD75BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Pro EQ: The KD-AHD75BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

      Pro EQ
      Frequency Level Q
      Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
      Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
      Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed

Source Link EQ: This feature allows you to store Pro EQ bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, HD Radio, Aux, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora).

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

4.8V/6CH Preamp Output: The KD-AHD75BT is equipped with three pair of 4.8V preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front & rear preamp outputs offer balance/fade control and are designed to hookup to a full-range 4-channel amplifier. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and designed to hookup to a mono-block subwoofer amplifier.

High-Pass Crossover: The KD-AHD75BT features a High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 150 Hz, or Off. The 'Off' selection is a full-range setting.

Subwoofer Controls: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT offers the following subwoofer controls, when you have the unit's subwoofer preamp output activated.

      • Low Pass Crossover: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Crossover for subwoofer preamp output. You can select from 55 Hz, 85 Hz, 120 Hz, or off.
      • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (0-8) from the CD receiver.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

      Display Features

Detachable Face: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT CD receiver features a detachable face to deter theft. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. A hard plastic face case is provide to store the detachable face.

Note: An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit.

Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD75BT features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except the eject button (it remains red). You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

      JVC Arsenal

Written By David, Butte, MT on Monday, May 13, 2013
      Installed in a 2003 Ford F-350
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was relatively easy to install in my F350 with the install kit and wiring harness. In some respects it's relatively easy to setup and use but the buttons are small and if you're driving too easy to miss the intended button and press the wrong one. The sound quality is better than the the old OEM and with the Sirius add on components it's reduced the clutter in my truck. The Bluetooth connection was a little cumbersome to get going with my phone and I still haven't gotten the phone book to sync. People I've called, through the Bluetooth, say the sound quality is very good and they don't hear the diesel noise that I hear driving - so that's a big plus. Overall I like the unit, it's meeting my expectations and definitely modernizing my audio in my 10year old truck.
      Pros:
Easy install, good sound quality and very good Bluetooth phone quality.
      Cons:
Not the easiest to setup/use and small buttons.

      Questionable

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my 3rd JVC unit. Really like the remote because its small, easy to operate without looking at it, and can connect to a keychain. (Mine is on a lanyard) 1st one went bad making a very loud static noise. The bluetooth microphone went bad on the next. Bought this one since it has outputs specifically for a sub but it produced very little output even when maxing out all the settings. Turned the gain up to max on the sub amp but still very little output. Fortunately my 4 channel main amp has a built in splitter to allow the signal to be routed to a sub amp so I went back to using that and just not using the head unit's output. Not feeling real good about the JVC quality. Crutchfield is THE BEST, though.
      Pros:
Remote is awesome on the JVC units. Features are good. Nice to have built in HD.
      Cons:
pre-out for the sub does not provide ample (if any) signal to the sub amp. Useless.

In case you didn't know the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT is the newer and improved version of this unit. I didn't choose it because the lack of HD Radio. What an amazing Swiss Army knife of a radio. There's a ton of functions and options and this unit does everything it promises and then some...
      Pros:
HD Radio, great call quality, great iPhone/iPod integration. Very complete and well rounded package. Good bang for your buck.
      Cons:
Menus takes some getting used to. No multi-line display. The included Bluetooth adapter takes up 1 USB port, out of 2.

JVC's Arsenal series continues to rock

Written By Kent, Greendale, WI on Sunday, April 14, 2013
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit to replace a JVC KDAHD69 that I bought here about two and a half years ago. My main reason for the upgrade was to get all of the bluetooth functionality. BT was still a bit new in units in 2010.

Anyway, I was extremely pleased with my previous JVC unit, and that opinion hasn't changed here.

Sound Really great. Absolutely clear! HD radio continues to be excellent and is one of my favorite features.

Menus Having come from a similar unit, I'm happy to say JVC kept the controls consistent. There are a few reviews in here about the controls being hard to use-- I get that, the modern 1-DIN units just don't have as many buttons as the old 2-DIN factory unit that you are replacing. But, you get used to it. But... Where did my old EQ button go?

Display As in the previous unit, having the ability to customize the colors is really great- helps the new stereo perfectly blend in with the rest of your dashboard. New for this unit are a few rotating-color choices (kind of like demo mode, but without the dumb text). Not for me, but I can see a lot of people liking that their stereo constantly changes color.

USB Works great. The USB "rear" port (on a cable) is used for the bluetooth adapter, but the front USB port is still great for other misc recordings you may want to play.

BT Pandora!!! Love it! Really cool. Phone quality is great, voice dialing works fine, but took a bit of jigging with Ice Cream Sandwich on my android phone to get the voice dialing to activate via Bluetooth.
      Pros:
Bluetooth functionality is nice to finally have Pandora functionality works really well HD Radio sound Customizable colors USB functions
      Cons:
I'm a little disappointed the EQ button is no longer there as was with my old unit. I hate doing menus for that.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Stereo but hard to use. I'm old I guess and in my day the radio had a button for what it did, not a button that did 100 things. Press it once stand on your head and this happens, Press it twice, put your tongue out and this happens. This thing could run a small city with all its abilities. But I just want to turn it on and play music. I still can't get the flash drive to play all my music. All of it recorded the same yet some albums are not supported. When I have time I will call and ask for help.
      Pros:
      Easy to install
      Cons:
      very complicated

      JVC KD-AHD75BT

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice radio, my last radio had more features and gadgets (too many) but the JVC KD-AHD75BT did not forget its roots in practicality .... its far more fuctional in that its a multi function hi tech radio and IT HAS something they used to call buttons .... haha. Try driving down a snow covered, rutted highway in the middle of the night trying to joy stick function your way to another station or heaven forbid and activity more complex. This radio has Preset station select buttons and I like that. Keep the 250 function radio because if you ant use it while driving without excessive distraction it wont work for me.
      Pros:
Plenty of functions, very competative price and looks nice
      Cons:
Preset buttons could be a tad bigger for use folks with XL man hands

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio to replace oem in my Ford truck. I wanted to have it like the new Ford sync. This radio outperforms all of my expectations. The equalizer is a little tough to understand but once you play with it for a few times you understand it completely. The radio is easy to use. The Bluetooth options are great, the color settings and everything else is phenomenal. The only dislike I have with the radio is the HD to non-HD switch. While listening to an HD radio station that goes out it drops and raises the volume automatically. I have not found anyway online or in the manual on just turning HD feature off. Other than that I highly recommend this radio to anybody using it for phone, bluetooth, and the other options.
      Pros:
Great sound quality. Multiple phones on Bluetooth. Front USB port charges devices. Removable face. Great color options. Great sound for phone calls.
      Cons:
HD to non-HD stations Causes volume to automatically raise and lower. EQ settings are a little hard to get to and navigate through the menu. Getting to preset stations above seven could be a lot easier with a button on the front rather than pushing buttons and turning the dials but you do get used to it after a while

This unit is pretty good. The only this about it that bothers me is after selecting a song, artists or album while using a iPod it doesn't go back where you left off. It starts all over again from the beginning. If you have over 100 artist or 5000 songs that can be a pain..Great volume and sound..
      Pros:
The volume on this head unit is great. Tweaking the sound using the built in EQ is great as well. The Bluetooth works great as well.
      Cons:
Finding artists, album or songs on the iPod is a task.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have 2 of these units. One in a Jeep Cherokee and my newest one which I just installed in a 2002 Freightliner Century semi. The have been perfect since the install and sound great. I was looking for a do all receiver with Bluetooth. Both units paired with my Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Bluetooth even works well in the semi. That's a tall order considering the road noise. The menu is fairly easy to figure out and the custom colors blend with the respective dashes perfectly. The install kit for the jeep was seamless and I even got advice from Crutchfield on where to get a wiring harness for the semi. Crutchfield knows their stuff and carry quality products. Ive been dealing with them since 1981 and see no reason to go anywhere else.
      Pros:
Cool display, great sound, plenty of inputs.
      Cons:
      Manual is a little lacking.

I really like all of the features this radio has. It plays great from my ipad and my android phone via blue tooth. The LCD is difficult to see in sunlight. BUT I don't think there are many radios out there that aren't difficulty to read in direct sunlight.
      Pros:
      Connectivity
      Cons:
reflection off front panel make it difficult to see.

Over all I am very happy, it sounds very good, looks nice and was easy to install.
      Pros:
Great sounding unit with a lot of customizable options.
      Cons:
the face plate takes some practice to get on. The menus can be hard to navigate (learning curve). I wish there was a quick way to access EQ settings and "Loud" on/off.

Great system for a good price

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound quality is excellent. In fact, I removed a previously installed amp because this unit sounds better with its internal amps. One minor disappointment is that BlueTooth requires a USB fob, which is included, but obviously you lose one of the USB ports if you want to use BlueTooth. All things considered, it is a great system for under 200 bucks.
      Pros:
Great sound, many features, fairly easy to set up and program.
      Cons:
BlueTooth requires use of one USB port.

A little early to tell, but generally very positive

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Maybe I'm old, but the GUI was a little tough for me at first. That may be a necessary byproduct of an otherwise clean and not fussy faceplate design, but it was a little befuddling to operate at first, even with the assistance of the (barely literate) manual at hand. That said, leaving it set to cycle color changes appealed to the 17 yo daughter for whom it was intended,. Fully iPhoneplug and play -- putting iTunes, Pandora and phone calls through an HD radio with simple Bluetooth pairing procedure. There is PLENTY of power in this unit for the average non-enthusiast -- without the need for an amplifier or subwoofer. You can certainly go that route if you want, but we didn't think it necessary, and you can hear from outside the car with all windows up that it isn't. We paired new Kenwood speakers in the back deck with the unit, fading to the rear about 3 notches to put more sound back there, and that made even the OEM (1996 vintage) door and dash speakers sound better. Be sure the unit is OFF before you remove the faceplate -- popping it out when the unit is playing confuses things, and resulted in the loss of the Bluetooth pairing, which could only be reinstated by clearing it and starting over. Lesson learned, only a minor design issue. Is it technologically that sophisticated to have the music sound muted when a phone call comes in? Probably not, but having that kind of functionality in a 1996 vintage beater car is, as they say, "pretty darned good."
      Pros:
Terrific sound; multi-function Bluetooth solution makes hands free Pandora and iPhone 4S usage a blast; included microphone renders better voice quality than the iPhone itself; perfect fit (with a separately purchased dash pocket) on a 1996 Volvo 960
      Cons:
User interface/menu system takes some getting used to; built in ring tones are pretty lame -- phone ring tones are played through the radio (and only those from the radio) for incoming calls on a paired phone.

Great system but I wish you were told how to install the mic

Installed in a 2005 Honda Accord LX
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit is expensive but it is really quite nice. It has 2 USB ports, though one dedicated for the Bluetooth (BT) receiver. It plays WAV files from my USB portable hard drive perfectly which is the main reason why I bought this unit but the BT is quite nice as well. It has an app which you can download and it's fairly good.

The radio is fantastic. HD radio is so much better than regular and it's free which is always nice. I don't know why they make a HU which doesn't have an HD tuner in it.

The sound is nice. I don't have an amp but I replaced my stock speakers and this unit uses them quite well. Again, way better than stock.

Ease of use is a bit tricky. It's a 1 DIN unit. WAV files don't have tagging information so it doesn't display things like Title on the cell phone app. Also folder names do not scroll which I think is a problem but this is a "works as intended" feature. There are too many buttons and it does so much that I don't know of a better way to design the interface but this is a complicated device to use, particularly the hands free.

The color displays are wonderful and this unit seems to be very well constructed.

Running the wire was sort of tricky for the microphone. I have a Honda accord 2005 and I put the mic above the rear view mirror. The wire was so thin than I just shoved it under the ceiling and behind the A panel and down along the windshield. My car has a pop out which allows a wire to be run down the top of the dash which was convenient.
      Pros:
Great system over all. The BT is quite nice and the install was a breeze. Great sound quality even without an amp.
      Cons:
The UI is not very good (I avoid terrible as it technically works) but I suppose we can't expect much from a single din unit. There are so many buttons which perform multiple functions that it is hard to keep them all straight. Basically, read the manual and keep it in the car.

Overall excellent unit, simple 1-1/2 hour install. Positives include amazing variation of color and dimming settings, bluetooth capability, and phone capability. Primary negative is the very low quality of the mic used for the handsfree phone setup. Despite adjusting location and sensitivity, is quite fuzzy. Just barely usable. However, overall I am very pleased with the quality and performance of this unit.

Overall a good performing unit, with a lot of features and great sound.
      Pros:
Great sound with good bass and good radio reception. Bluetooth call clarity is very good, setting up sound options and other features is fairly straightforward.
      Cons:
Muting feature on dial is very sensitive, bluetooth audio streaming has moments where it cuts/hesitates (my phone is a 2009 hero, so it may be at fault)

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was really glad to see a head unit that doesn't follow the trend of hideous chrome and silver trim and bright blue lights. It looks perfect in the black dashboard of my 1993 BMW 325i. I have the display set to perfectly match the aircraft inspired red/orange night lighting of the dashboard with the headlights on. With the headlights off, I set the display to bright white, and I have no problem looking at the display in the sunlight.

The sound quality of the bluetooth connection has been great, I have plugged my phone into the AUX jack, and the sound quality is just as good. I can't remember the last time I have heard a music dropout while listening to bluetooth. Handsfree calls have been very good. When the kids plug their iPod Touch into the USB, sound quality, iPod control, and Pandora app integration are all great.

I bought one of these, and liked it so much I bought two more. The quality has been consistent across all three of them. Haven't had a problem yet. I recommend this head unit to anybody who comes to me for a recommendation. I can't find a better single din head unit even if price is no object...the price of this unit provides extraordinary value for the money.
      Pros:
Classy design, color matching display, can configure separate color schemes for day and night, great sound quality, up/down control scrolls through radio presets 1-18, I haven't run into any skipping while playing mp3 cd's, bluetooth connection is rock solid, I rarely have an audio streaming glitch, no complaints when talking to my mother over the bluetooth handsfree, multipoint connects to my personal (Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.0) and work (HTC Tilt 2 Windows 6.5) cell phones simultaneously
      Cons:
No RDS on Analog stations, Bluetooth takes about a minute to connect, presets 7-18 can't be accessed by the 1-6 preset buttons. Anymore, radios might as well leave the 6 preset buttons off and use the space for bigger displays.
