Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.

Polk's db651s shallow-mount speakers feature 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that stand up to heat and moisture. Liquid-cooled 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction. With a 2" mounting depth, these speakers can fit into some tight places.     I ordered the slims because i thought i was going to have an issue with depth. turns out i didn't. I ended up sending them back only due to the fact that they just didn't have the full bass lows and full rich highs as other 6.5 inch speakers I have had in the past. Ended up getting the regular DB651's and I'm really happy with them, much better sound all around. I figured since I didn't have a depth issue I might as well get the most power possible.
    Pros:
    Slim fit for tight spaces when needed.
    Cons:
    Not as full and rich as the regular DB651 speakers.

    Sound good and clean. Have a Kenwood HU w/22 watts/chan but gets distorted before reaching high levels. Bass is OK if you turn it up on the HU. Have a sub and that's definitely needed with these (at least without a amp) Can't wait to get an amp to get them louder

    These have a very smooth sound but when replacing the factory 6 x 9 front door speakers in my Toyota Avalon I lost a lot of bass.
    Pros:
    Vocals and high frequencies are clearer than the factory speakers.
    Cons:
    These need more power and produce less bass than the factory speakers. Overall I was a bit disappointed because I was looking for a low cost upgrade for my daily driver but had to order more components.

    I purchased these for my wife's '95 Honda Accord- the original factory rear deck speakers were simply toast. After installation, I fired them up and it was like turning on a light. There was no comparison between these and the factory units- the music sounded great ! I tried different genres of music through them and they sounded perfect. For listeners of R&B and jazz, these will fit the bill.

    Not blown away - just blown

    I am a long time Polk Audio enthusiast. I use Polk speakers in my home audio system and have purchased Polk for my car in the past with good results.

    The speakers were a good improvement to my stock 2010 Accord system, even using just the non-amped stock HU. The sound matured even more after being broken in for a few months. Music sounded overall richer, even though the low-end didn't have much punch.

    However, within six months one of the rear speakers gave out and started to rattle. As it was within the 1 year warranty period Polk replaced the speaker at no charge, no questions asked. Now it is 2 years later and both rear speakers are blown (including the one I had replaced)! Remember, I am using the OEM HU only so am maybe pushing 15W RMS to the speakers.

    So overall the sound is a good improvement over stock, but I can only give 3 stars based on the fragility and poor lifespan of the product.
    Pros:
    Good improvement over stock speakers. Fits well into 2010 Accord with adapter.
    Cons:
    Short lifespan. 3 speakers blown within 3 years using just the factory HU.

    Save your money, it was pretty sad that the stock speakers had more bass.. Mids and highs were better, but the rest was bad... These are not pro speakers and you will not win any comps with them, but they should still be a good all round speaker. Epic fail... Got them today and aleady I have a RMA for return...

    Not bad, but nothing special

    I bought a pair of these about two years ago to replace the horrible Sony speakers that were in the rear deck of my Prelude. I had to run a shallow speaker like this due to clearance issues with the trunk springs. On headunit power (Pioneer DEH-510UB), they sounded okay. They picked up on the midrange quite well, but lacked seriously when it came to the higher end of the vocal spectrum. The tweeters were a bit bland, even for a textile dome. I can't comment on bass output, because I had them highpassed at 100hz.

    I added a four channel amp, putting out 50w per channel at 4 ohms, and that's when the speakers finally started to come to life. They sounded much better overall, but the tweeters still lacked in definition. Eventually, the amp went bad on one channel, so I upgraded to a bigger amp so I could have headroom to work with in future upgrades. Shortly after upgrading, one of the Polk tweeters bit the dust. I can't say I was surprised, being that the amp puts out 100w per channel at 12v. About a week later, the other tweeter ate it. The Infinity speakers up front are still holding strong, though.

    Overall, I can say that the speakers were decent considering their low price. The tweeters are their weakest point, obviously, as the mids are still playing to this day.

    -Low price -Upgrade from stock -Work fairly well on low power
    Cons:
    -Tweeters lack definition -Tweeters can't handle power like the woofers can -Female vocals quite weak.

    Bought 4 of these for my 2008 Chevy trailblazer because the stock speakers on the driver side went out. Never tried polk before but heard good things so I gave them a shot. Overall I would say they are decent. I'm not super impressed with them but they aren't terrible either. Highs are decent, lots of mid range, low end bass lacking but that's to be expected. A lot of reviewers say no bass but that's not true, there is a lot of mid range bass and they produce a decent thump but obviously won't carry any low end bass, that's what subs are for. Also they pick up a lot of mid range vocals from males, such as talk radio or during commercials, almost annoying at times. Mine are powered by a Sony double din CD player, I've tried several different settings and they sound ok but I still need to do some tweaking to get the sound where I like it. Also they came with mounting brackets that did not fit so be prepared to custom mount them if you have a trailblazer without the Bose system, I would assume its different if you do have the Bose unit, but if you do I would keep that unless your speakers went out. I've tried several speakers over the years, kicker, pioneer, Sony, and now polk. I personally would not recommend these because I am not totally impressed with them. I would recommend kicker over these, the last speakers I purchased were kicker and they sounded much better in my opinion. Obviously better than my stock system but not the great sound I was hoping for.

    I purchased these based on reviews and the fact that I have always been a Polk Audio fan. I am not doing anything crazy to my car, just some simple upgrades. These speakers bring a clarity to the sound that I did not have before. I would recommend these to anybody looking for an inexpensive upgrade. Next step....subwoofer. Gotta have some more base!

    First off, these speakers sound incredible. I can't believe how much better my sound system sounds now that i have these speakers installed. The mids and highs are perfect, and very loud. I recommend turning the mids and highs down a few cranks from the original setting. Paired with my Polk Dxi112 sub, my car sounds heavenly. I could not be more impressed by these speakers. I have these speakers hooked up to my aftermarket stereo, and they still sound great. There's definitely no need for an amp. However, these speakers offer little to no bass. If you don't have a subwoofer in your car to add to these speakers and are looking for some bass, you will be disappointed.

    With that being said, the installation was a pain in the butt. A HUGE ONE. The brackets did not fit in the front doors, or the back panel. It took me about 4 hours to rig the front speakers so that they'd fit in my 99 Saturn Sc2. It took an additional hour to install and rig the back speakers. However, the pain and suffering of installing these speakers were worth it.

    Amazing sound. Perfect Clarity. No distortion. Best speakers I've ever heard. Polk for Life.
    Cons:
    Brackets didn't fit (might just be my car) , little to no bass (which is understandable)

    They work

    I bought these to replace my front low range speakers in my BMW E46 because one of them blew. They work, but I think the OEM sounded better. I didn't see anything that mentioned the speaker-type connections, so I had to get some after they arrived. I don't have the packages anymore, but I think they were .110" & .187" quick slide connectors. I didn't want to solder the connections because I wanted to be able to remove the door panel in the future. I had to cut-off the BMW speaker connector that was on there. I didn't see any of this in the "instructions" on the MasterSheet. I also don't like the mounting bracket that holds them into place. The speakers themselves aren't screwed onto the door panel. Rather, a plastic bracket is used to compress the speaker into the slot so it doesn't move around. In the end though, they work.

    These speakers were a perfect replacement for my 2001 Honda Insight. With the included wiring harness(thanks Crutchfield), I was able to replace the oem front factory speakers of my Insight easily and quickly. What a big difference these new speakers provide!
