This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Installed head unit using this harness in a 1990 Plymouth Laser, this will work with any first gen DSM Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser, or Eagle Talon. Not sure but it may even work with old 3000GT/Stealths. A little funky to wire as some of the + and - wires are on different connectors for the same speaker, just be sure to pay attention. The right rear or one of the rear speakers was a different color than what the manual said and was different color from the head unit's harness but it was the only one that had me confused. All in all a pretty standard easy install. If you use the factory radio retaining bracket from your Eclipse stock radio it will likely ground the radio out, if not just screw that ground wire into one of the mounting screws on the front of the mounting bracket from the stock radio. Should work fine.

Pros:

Perfect fit to factory harness and all speakers work fine. This harness is hard or impossible to find in stock at stores, lucky for us we have Crutchfield. Prepare DSM owners to discard your cassette adapters and FM transmitters.

Cons:

Diagram and color mix ups could confuse a novice installer. Recommend installing power supply to harness first, insulating power supply wires and ground and then individually connect one speaker at a time ( both + and - for that particular speaker ) to be sure you've got it all figured out before jamming it in the dash.

The wiring harness was just fine. But, the instructions for wiring the orange wires seems to be backwards. When I wired the solid orange wire to the white striped orange wire the radio lights would go out when I turned on the cars headlights. I called the service dept. and the tech looked at the diagram and told me to make sure it was wired that way and it should work. I checked and it was wired as instructed and did not work. So, I wired it with the two orange w/white stripe wires together and everything is now working fine.
