XM

Our take on the Terk XM6

by Matt Freeman

Terk's XM6 antenna gives you the strongest possible XM signal reception in your home, which helps maximize your enjoyment of all that great programming. Sometimes the indoor antennas that are included with dedicated home and plug-and-play satellite radios just don't get the job done — but with the XM6, you'll enjoy every second of the programming you paid for.

You can mount this stout, all-weather antenna on your roof or an exterior wall, with the help of the supplied universal mounting bracket and hardware. Just add a cable (see the "Accessories" tab), and your setup is complete.

Note: To receive the satellite radio signal, you must also have an XM radio and a subscription to XM.

    Features

Overview: The TERK XM6 is the perfect high-performance antenna for your XM home receiver or Plug & Play system. The XM6 outdoor satellite radio antenna is a low-profile, high-performance antenna designed specifically for XM Satellite Radio reception. The XM6 has a universal mounting bracket that can be installed to a wall, roof, or mast (including a satellite dish mast). The antenna itself has a threaded F-type coaxial connector designed for use with a standard RG-6 coax cable (not included). The included F-type to SMB adapter plugs into the XM tuner. Terk recommends not exceeding 100' cable length without a line amplifier.

System Requirements: In addition to this antenna, you must have an XM tuner and subscription to XM Satellite Radio to receive XM programming.

Compatibility Note: The XM6 is compatible with the XM Direct 2 Home Tuner, which is used with XM Ready home receivers. The XM6 plugs directly into the XM Direct 2 Home Tuner using the supplied F-to-SMB adapter.

    Just Want Good Music

Written By Peter K, Northeastern, NC on Wednesday, April 29, 2009
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Terk XM6 is a light weight, plastic antenna that makes one feel they are getting ripped off by having to pay $90.00 for such a small package. However, the XM6 provides excellent signal capture and minimizes losses and noise. It beats the antenna provided with my Delphi home kit by orders of magnitude and gathered enough signal to allow me to use it inside the attic near the roof peak. Also, the use of RG-6 cable is far better than the "microphone cable" provided with my Delphi kit. Very happy that the Terk XM6 antenna was brought to my attention as the solution to lack of XM signal.

    Terk XM6 XM antenna

Written By Ronald, Saugus, MA on Thursday, October 23, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was purchased along with a Delphi SA10116 XM repeater and a 25-foot length of Arista RG/6 cable. It works quite well looking through the South end of the house from a rafter in the attic. The repeater is mounted about two feet away. The only nit I can pick regarding the antenna is the limited range of adjustment of the antenna head. I was able to position the mount to take full advantage of the head's adjustment range. The antenna unit is a bit lightweight (okay; it _is_ mostly plastic), but it works exactly as it should, and better than I personally expected. It's an excellent product.

    Terk XM6 Satellite antenna

Written By Harlan, Sioux City, IA. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this product to improve my reception on my Jensen satellight radio. It works fine, the only problem that I would like to mention concerns the arm from the base to the receptor. It moves up and down but not sideways.
I subscribe to both Sirius and XM, and the Sirius antenna arm rotates at the base of the antenna making it much easier to work with. Maybe XM could do the same!
I own two Sirius and two XM antennas.

    Worked for me!

Written By davewczx9r, Centreville, Virginia on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Delphi XM2Go portable device. Unfortunately, the antenna that came with the XM2Go didn't work well. The reason for this? A lousy "look angle" led to a weak receive signal. Because of the layout of my apartment, I could only get a south-southeast view, instead of the recommended south view. I installed the Terk XM6, and now have three bars of signal strength.

Installing the Terk required drilling a hole through the window sash and the window, and cutting a hole in the screen. The included RF cable requires a 1/2 inch drill bit. Total time to install was 30 minutes.
