The Metra amplifier turn-on interface lets you install a high-powered aftermarket receiver into select 2005-up Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles without bypassing the premium factory system. The interface provides an amplifier turn-on signal and a 12-volt accessory power interface for the factory amp. Warranty: 1 year.

Features

Overview: The CHTO-01 interface is designed to be used in select Chrysler vehicles that have factory amplifiers; including Alpine, Boston Acoustics, and Infinity systems. Please see "Outfit My Car" for compatible applications. The interface allows you to install an aftermarket receiver in a compatible vehicle without bypassing the factory amp or replacing the factory speakers.

Note: The aftermarket radio must have two pairs of preamp outputs in order to properly interface with the CHTO-01. If it doesn't you will need to connect the receiver to a line output converter.

Retained Accessory Power: If your vehicle has the Retained Accessory Power (R.A.P.) function, which supplies power to the radio after the ignition is shut off until one of the front doors is opened, this function is retained by the CHTO-01 harness.

I'm going to have agree with the other reviews regarding the slow start. If
you start your car right up there is a 50/50 chance of it working. When the
headunit does not start you will have to turn off your car and restart it.

I'm just glad I made my purchase with crutchfield. I simply called and ask a
return authorization.

BTW, this was installed on dodge charger with the BA 6 speaker system.

Works with clarification

This is a great device in concept, but it is not 100% in use. As noted by another review, I find that I often don't have sound unless I perform a 'slow' start or a start/stop/start of my '06 Dodge Ram 3500. Also, be aware of the potentiometer noted on page 4 of the docs. My potentiometer was not in the diagrammed location, but was key to getting the setup working. The level was so low that everything distorted when I turned up the stereo to a barely listenable volume. I found that I had to increase the potentiometer quite a bit for the audio to come through nicely. Some may need to reduce to minimize distortion. Long story short, play around with this before buttoning everything up to ensure you are getting optimal quality.

05' Jeep Grand Cherokee Install

This harness is recommended for use in the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the factory Boston Acoustics stereo / amp. This harness does enable you to get sound from the deck to the speakers, but as the factory amp receives part of the signal from a CANbus connection (digital) - from my experience with 2 of these harnesses - the signal drops out and will fade from front to back & left to right randomly.

To me, it seems as if the factory amp is not getting a correct signal through this harness (although I hooked up the factory system to check for any problems and it still works fine) - so after replacing 2 decks (thinking that they were the problem), I came to the conclusion that this connector does NOT work for this application.

The solution ? The only ones that I can find are to either bypass the factory amp or take it out and install a new, aftermarket amp altogether as this kit will not intergrate into the factory Jeep system as it is supposed to.

IMO, both of which are more involved than I would like to bother with installing but may be forced to out of necessity.

Does the job

I used this to connect my personal head unit to a company car with a built-in amp. It works but the instructions don't tell you to make a THREE-WAY connection with the accessory power wire for the Dodge Caliber. The 3rd wire is the one coming from your head unit with the same (blue-white) coloring as the other two. I remain a little disappointed in the sound quality (before, my same head unit went straight to a pair of good 3-way speakers, now it goes through the car amp to my speakers and a bunch more that came with the car). A lot more volume and deep bass now, but the *clarity* isn't what it used to be. Maybe I'll rewire things and send the full-range sound to the front doors (it goes to the rear doors as delivered, for some unknown reason). But other than being overpriced (what on earth could make this little circuit board worth that much?) it seems to work fine. I didn't have the problem the other reviewer mentioned with turning the car off and having to wait, or whatever.

Unfortunately I had to buy this to get my new receiver to work in my Dodge Durango. It is not worth the $ I had to pay on top of my stereo. After the easy install, I noticed I had to wait a few seconds before starting my car or it wouldnt turn on the speakers. I would then have to shut off the engine and restart it slowly. This is a bother when you are in a hurry.
