Sound Ordnance

Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Our take on the Sound Ordnance™ B-12

by Dominic Devito

The Sound Ordnance B-12 loaded sub enclosure gives your sound system a decisive advantage in the battle for great sound. The 12" polypropylene woofer with its rubber surround offers big-time boom you can really feel, and the box comes fortified with rugged medium-density fiberboard construction for durability. Tough black carpeting keeps your car's interior free from abrasions, while the enclosure's recessed panels allow it to fit into more trunks and cargo spaces. Rounded inner corners on the slot vent minimize port noise, so you'll enjoy smooth, responsive bass.

The B-12 enclosure handles up to 250 watts RMS. Sound Ordnance backs the B-12 with a 3-year warranty so you can add it to your system with confidence. Match this enclosure with a suitable amplifier, secure it in your vehicle, and get ready for a bass barrage.

Highlights:

  • ported hatchback-style enclosure with one 12" subwoofer

    Great Starter Sub

Written By Lupo, DC on Monday, March 11, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great starter sub that comes in it's own well built enclosure and for the price I don't really think it can be beat. The reason I give it a 3/5 for audio quality are for two reasons...(1) The sub has problems hitting the very low notes (>45 hz). Don't get me wrong it can hit them and you are aware that they are there but not enough for my taste. (2) Since this sub is in a ported box it has a resonant frequencies which are very noticeable. On some notes in a song the bass is just right and then the next the whole car is flooded with bass. For some who like really boomy bass I guess this could be a pro, but for someone like me who prefers tight and clean bass it isn't ideal. Either way, for a starter sub this is a great buy. The build quality seems very good. I haven't opened anything up yet so I can't comment on the internals but Sound Ordnance seems like a very decent brand. I have been happy with this sub for over 2 years now but I think it's time for me to upgrade to a 15 inch in a sealed enclosure driven by ~500 watts RMS. For anybody starting out that wants a cheap sub that can definitely bump and hold its own get this sub. For the price it's a good deal either way.
    Pros:
good build quality, sturdy and durable- i don't see this breaking unless you do something crazy to it, hits most notes well, definitely adds to the overall experience, very cheap and comes with enclosure, decent power
    Cons:
has noticeable resonant frequencies which make some notes much more boomy than others, has problems hitting the really low notes that I enjoy the most (most people may not even know these notes exist in songs unless they have heard them on a good system though)

I have been impressed with this product. Matter of fact when I received this I immediately hooked it up to my home system and it blew me away! that was only 80 watts. I hooked it up to 200 watts rms amp and it thumps my jetta like crazy. Im thinking about a higher power amp, because the sub want more power

This box is a beast. I have a s/o m-1500 paired with it and it thumps hard. Installed this in my 04 ford ranger and I'm telling you this thing makes music sound even better. If I had the room in my truck I would have got 2 of them.

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango and my OEM deck recently died, so I had a budget of $300 to build a basic system to add to the already installed Infinity speakers. I bought a JVC HD deck and a JVC 400wt amp and this awesome Sub set up. I am extremely impressed!! It will thump your brains out for the price, the bass is clean! Buy this now, you will not regret it!!

WOW! first time sub user, big time impressed.

Written By MikeH., South Jersey on Friday, November 16, 2012

I've never owned, but always wanted a sub for my car. I finally picked up a decent used 4 channel amp to bridge and power a small sub. I don't normally listen to very loud music and I don't listen to modern music but was looking for something to make my Eric Clapton come to life.

It's like listening to music for the first time. I can't believe how much it adds to the music... Even songs I've heard a hundred times come to life with "the bottom" that's been missing. Turning the volume up a bit really adds the punch. I picked this sub up because the ratings were good and the price was right. I

I was not disappointed. I am considering getting another for my 2nd car. Can't go wrong.

This Sub is AWESOME! Sure it's my first sub but for this price I decided to give it a shot! I have it in my trunk hooked up to my M2100 Amp and WOW does this thing hit SO hard!!! My entire car shakes like crazy! I can't even focus on ANYTHING through any of my mirrors! I am extremely thrilled with my new sub! Definitely recommend this sub!
    Pros:
    Hits hard! Looks awesome!
    Cons:
Lots of rattling when it's hitting high, but that's because I have a Honda! haha

Wow what a sub!! I bought this sub to replace my 10" Comp VR that was stolen. I had hoped that it would be as good as my old one, boy was I suprised how good it is! This thing hits way harder than my old one ,at half the price and looks cool too. I'm all ready planning on installing one on my wife's new Chrysler.

    Good First Sub

Written By Grant, Fowlerville Mi on Saturday, July 14, 2012

Overall this sub is quite well, it thumps pretty good for only 250 RMS. Yes it does shake your mirrors, but no it is no amazingly loud that it hurts your ears. My friends love it although i'm looking to upgrade soon. Over all i would give it a 3.5 out of 5 not because it's not a good sub because it really is great. But because simply there is a lot better subwoofers out there. So its a great starting sub though!! Also it hits mids very well! Highs are decent and lows are okay too! Grant

    So far so good

Written By ADO, Miami, FL on Thursday, June 28, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub is hooked up to my M2100 and after a few weeks of breaking in, it is sounding (feeling) more like it should, but still not completely.

Don't expect your rear-view mirror to vibrate like crazy, I have this in my trunk and unfortunately it can't seem to penetrate the back seat very well which kind of upsetting to me (I do drive with the seat down occasionally but then I hear it more than I feel it). I have the low pass filter on to everything under 70, but standing outside of my car with the trunk closed, I hardly notice anything; it is almost like it isn't even there. For the price this is amazing and I would buy it again, but if you want your car to shake, I might recommend the B-24 or a sub rated atleast 500W+. For 250W (and only being powered at 200W) I would have to say that it performs well.

Honestly, for the price, this is one good sub.
    Pros:
Price! Plus it fits very nicely in my trunk in my honda civic 2010 sedan
    Cons:
Not as powerful as I would have hoped for, but it does give my music that small extra kick I was looking for. I feel like, even with the Low Pass filter on pretty low, it picks up more mids that it should. In other words, the bass it is pushing out seems like it is missing something.

i got this on sale with free shipping and it is paired with Sound ordnance 250W amp, and it rattle my trunk like crazy, i can feel the bass, trust me only one of this is enough, and if you have an SUV, then you will get a better sound, because in car, some of the bass is sucked by the back seat.
    Pros:
    none
    Cons:
super quality bass, not so big, but not so small (after all its 12 inch sub). Built quality is great and woofer quality is on par with bigger brand with cheap price tag.

I've never had a sub-woofer before so i can't really compare this to anything, but it was way bigger than i expected!! check your dimensions before you buy!!

either way combined this with an alpine mrp m500 off of Craigslist and a new head unit, and i can feel the bass in my chest, and my rear view mirror shakes like no other!! it's an amazing thing and extremely easy to set up, just push down, plug in, and you're good!!!

this was my first ever install, and everything went well so i highly recommend this sub-woofer! plus it looks really bad ass in the trunk!
    Pros:
hits hard, loud makes me smile
    Cons:
bit bigger than i expected, but that's my fault for not checking dimensions!!!

I had bought one of these originally with a poineer monoblock, it pounded. My buddy got 2 JL W3's and was bragging to everybody and my system couldnt compare. Well i did some research, figured out you could wire these in paralle and it would still work. So i made sure it wouldnt damage my sub/amp or anything and even talked to crutchfield about it. They said it would be great, so i ordered another one. I hooked up both B12's in paralle and thegy ran at 300rms 2ohms. Let me tell you something, i have them in a Gmc envoy and they pound harder thanm my buddys JL's! I spent a total of 300 dollars on my system and it pounds way harder than systems double that! I can hit 135-140 db's in an open suv! Dont miss on this buy and i suggest you do what i did. I PROMISE you wont be dissapointed!
    Pros:
No need for breakin in, Pounds the port, clean sound

I'm no audiophile or big money spender - in fact my entire "stealth iPod" system cost under $350 for amp, sub, 4 speakers, iPod mount, and all the cabling. I'm running the sub off bridged (rear/sub channel) signal out of the Sound Ordnance M4075 75W x 4 Car Amplifier.

All things considered, I suppose a dual voice coil sub would provide a "truer" sound profile, but come on...this thing is in my trunk anyway and it hits plenty hard for me. It fills out low volumes perfectly and comes on like a freakin' canon when you push it !!!
    Pros:
