About the Samsung DVD-HD850
DVD movies have a crisp, colorful picture people love. Hook up Samsung's DVD-HD850 to a high-definition TV, and they can look even better. This slim, sleek player upgrades standard DVD video into gorgeous, near-HD images. You'll see the improvement with every DVD finer detail, and an overall more realistic picture.
The 'HD850 sends "upconverted" DVD signals to a compatible TV through its HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) output. With this type of connection, the DVD signal stays digital until it's displayed on the screen, for the cleanest possible picture quality. Plus, an HDMI cable is included, so you can set up this player right out of the box.
For TVs that aren't HDMI-compatible, this player has an array of more conventional video connections, so you can still enjoy a great DVD picture. Digital audio outputs let you connect it to a home theater system for thrilling surround sound. With video upconversion and flexible connection options, the 'HD850 lets you take advantage of your HDTV's capabilities and enjoy DVD movies like never before.

Inputs and Outputs Notes
HD Upconversion: The DVD-HD850 has the ability to upconvert a standard DVD signal to HD-compatible 480p, 720p, 768p, or 1080i and pass it through the HDMI output; upconverted signals are not passed by the component video output.
Video D/A Converter: This player uses a 54MHz/10-bit video digital-to-analog converter. This high-bit, high sampling D/A converter helps to reduce digital artifacts to give you a better picture.
Audio D/A Converter: This player features a 192kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converter.
PCM Down Sampling: You can select a PCM Down Sampling setting of On or Off. When On is selected and you are playing a DVD recorded in 96kHz, the signal is down converted to 48kHz/16-bit before it is passed through the digital outputs. When No is selected and the unit is playing a non-copy-protected DVD recorded in 96kHz, a 96kHz/24-bit signal passes through the digital outputs. If the DVD is copy-protected, the digital signal is automatically down converted.
Progressive Scan Output: Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. The component outputs on this unit can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.
MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3/WMA files recorded onto CD-R discs using the ISO 9660 and Joliet formats. MP3 files with a compression rate from 128-192 kbps and WMA files with a compression rate from 64-192 kbps are supported. This unit can play up to a maximum of 3000 files and 300 folders.
JPEG Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto CD-R discs using the ISO 9660 and Joliet formats. All JPEG files on a disc can be played back in a slide show. The slide show has a selectable interval that can be set to 6 seconds, 12 seconds, or 18 seconds. You can zoom in on any selected image (2x or 4x) or rotate an image 90-degrees clockwise. Each disc can have a maximum of 3000 files and 300 folders.
Zoom: The Zoom function allows magnification (2x or 4x) of selected screen areas, without distortion, even as the movie is playing. You can move the zoomed image around the screen.
EZ View: The EZ View feature allows you to adjust the aspect ration in the following ways:
- Using a 16:9 TV
- For 16:9 Aspect Ratio
Discs:
- Wide Screen: displays the content of the DVD title in 16:9 aspect ratio
- Screen Fit: the top and bottom of the screen are cut off. When playing a 2.35:1 aspect ratio disc, the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen will disappear. The picture will look vertically stretched.
- Zoom Fit: the top, bottom, left and right of the screen are cut off and the central portion of the screen is enlarged
- For 4:3 Aspect Ratio
