Bose® Quiet Comfort®3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones

An inside look at Bose's patented Acoustic Noise Cancelling® technology.

You can't always control your surroundings, but great noise cancelling headphones can help you escape when background sounds get distracting. The Bose QuietComfort 3 headphones are powerful enough to neutralize the annoying hum of an aircraft while unleashing the sonic beauty of your music. These comfortable, lightweight headphones use Bose's patented Acoustic Noise Cancelling® technology to keep unwanted sounds at bay while delivering deep bass and rich detail. Slip away from your surroundings and into your favorite tunes.

Travel

Minimize external distractions so you can relax.

Acoustic Noise Cancelling technology

Bose's Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphone technology employs microphones in the earcups to monitor the difference between internal and external sound. A "correcting" signal is sent to each earcup to dramatically reduce unwanted background noise, keeping distractions at bay and allowing you to hear your music more clearly.

Control your iPhone® remotely

Own an iPhone? Keep it in your pocket without losing control. The QuietComfort 3 headphones come with two detachable cords, including one with an in-line three-button remote for use with your iPhone, iPod® or iPad®. Answer calls and control music playback — or adjust the volume for either — with the push of a button. Don't worry about dozing off and dropping your iPhone while listening on the plane. Keep it stowed away and let the remote take care of it.

Perfect for a long flight, noisy office or just relaxing at home, the QuietComfort 3 headphones feature cushioned, comfortable earcups, ensuring you can keep them on for hours. Even without music playing, the noise cancelling circuitry can be activated to block out the world so you can relax. The built-in battery provides up to 25 hours of listening or noise cancelling time and is easily rechargeable with the supplied wall charger. Take these headphones near and far by folding them up and stashing them in the zip-up carrying case for great sound on the go.

    Features

Acoustic Noise Canceling Headphone Technology: The patented Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphone technology in Bose QuietComfort headphones provides full-spectrum noise reduction for a better audio experience. Microphones in the ear-cups actively monitor what you hear, including unwanted outside sound. The difference between the unwanted sound and the desired sound is then electronically processed, creating a correction signal that acts to negate the unwanted noise. The speaker within each ear-cup is then fed the correction signal. This signal, combined with the passive noise reduction of the headset itself, dramatically reduces the outside distractions that reach your ears.

Comfortable Fit: The QuietComfort 3 headphone feature cushioned on-ear pads for a comfortable fit. The headband is padded for additional comfort, especially for long-time use. You can gain up to 3 inches in headband length, allowing comfortable settings for a wide variety of head sizes.

Detachable Cable:  The headphones use a single ear-cup 53" audio cable, which gives you far fewer problems with tangling than two-cable designs.  When you're ready to listen to audio, just plug the cord into the left ear-cup and into your audio source. If you plan to use the QuietComfort 3 headphones for noise reduction only, you can simply put the headset on and switch on the noise reduction circuitry. There is no need to connect the audio cord.

Control Talk Cable: The Bose QC3 headphones come with an additional 5.5' cable customized for select Apple products. A 3-button remote and in-line microphone let you take calls on your iPhone and manage music on other Apple devices. You can control volume, track selection, and voice applications; plus easily switch between calls and music.

    • Hands-Free Talking: When your iPhone rings, just push the integrated answer/end button on the headset's inline remote to pause your music and take the call from your iPhone. The omnidirectional mic on the back of the inline remote picks up your voice clearly, so there is no need to hold it to your mouth. The other party is heard through your compatible Bose headphones. You can end the call with one more touch of the button, and your music continues from where you left off. The built-in in mic also supports voice control from your compatible iPhone.
    • Music Control: The Control Talk cable offers volume, track selection, and voice application features for your compatible iPod/iPhone through the inline remote. You can adjust volume up/down, play/pause tracks, skip tracks (forward/backward), fast forward/rewind within a track, and change playlists.

Note: The remote and mic are supported by the iPod nano (4th/5th/6th gen), iPod classic (120/160GB), iPod touch (2nd/3rd/4th gen), iPhone (3GS/4/4S), and iPad (1/2); as well as MacBook and MacBook Pro (2009 model or later). The remote is also supported by the iPod shuffle (3rd/4th gen). Audio is supported by all iPod models. You can also purchase a mobile kit (018QC3CELL, sold separately) that lets the QC3 headphones work with other cell phones, too

Airline Adapter: A dual-plug adapter is included for use with most airline audio systems.

Battery: The QuietComfort 3 headphones are powered by a single rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which provides approximately 25 hours of reliable run time. A small wall-socket charger is included.

Carry Case: You can store the headphones and accessories in the supplied carry case. The ear-cups rotate and fold so they can be stored flat in the crushproof case. The length of the supplied strap can be adjusted for ease of use.

    AWFUL.

Written By AveryC, North Carolina on Monday, April 22, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to wear on frequent over seas trips that I take with my husband. I wore them for two days and they broke! The on and off switch just stopped working randomly and it would cut off the sound and the noise cancellation. I did not realize that actually sat on top of the ears and really didn't do a good job of controlling sound leakage or noise cancellation. Personally, I don't like the Bose that sit on top and don't go around just for the comfortable factor but I thought I would try these anyways. Every time I moved my head or neck, the ear pieces would slip off my ears and I would have to readjust them, which is very aggravating. The cord is too long on it and it gets tangled up on EVERYTHING, the same goes for the 15's but I can live with that since they are way more comfortable. For how much they cost, I returned them immediately and switched them with the 15's which I love.
    Pros:
The only pro of this situation was the customer service reps at Crutchfield. They asked no questions, just apologized and had the 15's out immediately to replace them. I will continue to be a Crutchfield customer for that reason alone.
    Cons:
Cheaply made, uncomfortable, horrible sound quality, not enough noise cancellation and leaked too much of what you are hearing, to others around you.

The newer compact size makes these headphones much easier for travel. They're pricey, no doubt about it, but short of industrial-strength ear plugs these are a great way to block out a significant amount of airplane noise, loud conversations around you, or even the neighborhood lawn mowers.

    I like them a lot!

Written By Jim, NJ on Monday, July 02, 2012

I have had these for a few years now. I love them for what they are. Cant you get better sounding headphones for the money? YES! However the noise canceling ability of these is why I own them! I have headphones that cost about 40% less, sound better (opinion) but these are definitely the best Noise Canceling headphones I have ever used. The $50-$100 models you see everywhere simply do not compare. I use them in the office when I need to be "in the zone" or when I fly. Really cuts out the background noise rather wll.

Want to TUNE OUT the World???

Written By K FITZ, Columbia, SC on Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I review all my items and not just the ones I just LOVE or just HATE. When I give these headphones 5 stars, they have earned a true "Highest Quality" rating. If you are like me and have to listen to your music in the best possible quality you already know BOSE. The main thing that got me excited about these headphones are the COMFORT and CONSTRUCTION! I can't even feel these things on my head and the new rechargeable battery couldn't be cooler. I bought an extra so I always have one fully charged on stand-by.

If you are like me and your daily grind involes an open office and 100 cubicals, these bad boys will put you in your own world and all of the sudden it's 5 o'clock haha. Not to mention, you won't have to put up with that god awful voice/laugh from that person every office has. I can't say enough about these things, except test em out with some quality Blues music and realize what kind of range these things have!!
    Pros:
Small compact, but built with quality and care. The exsesive padding to ensure comfort over long periods of use. SOUND!!
    Cons:
Absolutly nothing, but a Bluetooth feature would be awesome!

    Best headphones I've ever used

Written By bonkersdivasmom, Bloomington, IL on Tuesday, January 31, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these because I'm a home-based medical transcriptionist who works out of her apartment. I need to be able to understand what is being dictated, but apartment living can get rather noisy. I bought these headphones to hear the doctors more clearly and to block out the noise, and these headphones do both jobs extremely well. Once I get these things on my ears and turn on the noise-blocking function, it is so much easier to do my job! I'm planning a cruise to Alaska in June, and I'm going to take these along not just for the plane flight, but to help block out noise in my cabin on the cruise ship. One minor quibble...I wish the headphone cord was a few inches longer. I have Bose speakers on my computer, and the headphone plug-in port is on the right speaker, but on the left ear on the headphones. When transcribing, the cord sometimes gets in the way of my typing because of its short length. Still, that's a very minor issue, and overall I'm quite happy with this product!
    Pros:
Very comfortable on my ears, even for long periods. Blocks out noise well and makes medical transcription much clearer.
    Cons:
Headphone cord is slightly short and can be awkward to type around.

    Worth The Price

Written By GaryJohn, Sierra Vista, AZ on Monday, July 18, 2011

In the past I have spent a lot less money for noise cancelling head phones. I have a Sony model and it reduced some noise and it raised the volume too. That is nuts. I have seen the advertising for these headphones and to be honest I thought it was just over priced hype. I was wrong. I am really blown away with these headphones. I hear music from my itouch better than anything before! The noise cancelling is all I hoped for it to be. I have asked others in my travels how they liked their phones and all were pleased but no one offered to let me test them out. You can buy these used for a lot less money but is it worth the risk? Crutchfield has a liberal return policy so I felt more comfortable spending my money with them (as always). If you want to return them, Crutchfield works with you. But once you try them, you will NOT send them back. Amazing product! It even came with the battery!! Finally some defense against screaming babies in the plane.

    Bose® QuietComfort® 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones

Written By e, SF, CA on Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Great sounding headphones and perfect for plane travel. The rechargeable battery lasts a really long time. Since they're on-ear, I can only use them for 2-3 hours, but I think that's a function of the style and not Bose. My only real complaint is that the hard case eventually rips the faux-leather on the headphones, which I'm told is $60 to replace. I've had mine for 3 years so hopefully they've fixed that.

    Excellent quality phones

The Bose QuietComfort 3 is worth every penny. Whether you use it to cancel background noise or listen to music, it does the job. The fit is very comfortable and light weight. On a recent trans-Pacific flight, it was far superior to my previous phones. The battery life is excellent and lasts through 14 hour flights with power to spare. You will be pleased.

Best travel companion I ever had. On a long flight to Honolulu they saved me from going nuts due to the noise from the aircraft engines.

I also loved the long duration of the rechargeable battery. Well worth my investment on these headphones!

I just received my headphones. The sound is incredible, I feel like I in the studio as the music is being recorded. Sebastian Sidi and Nicholas Gunn are unbelievable.

The fit is what blew me away. These are the most comfortable headphones I have ever put on. I can not go back to cheaper headphones - there is no comparison.

    After 2 years

Written By Stefencar, Dallas texas...ok Afghanistan on Thursday, April 15, 2010

After having the Bose 3 for 2 years I can honestly say this is a WOW product. I recently flew on an old Russian helicopter, and my music was clear and the noise outside was greatly reduced (yeah i still hear the rumble but boy was it reduced).

Tell you what I did to measure the noise reduction. I turn off the music. The rumble was more noticeble but not uncomfortable. I turn the headphones off and there was noise like on a plane but not next to the engine. Then I took the headset off. OH the pains I had in my ears from the roaring noise!!!!!! ...lol Whew Thank you Mr Bose for the ear plugs that did not go into my ears.

Ok the downside of this product is the custom batteries. I've lost 1 of them and a charger. At 50.00 a replacement I was 1/3 of the way to buying an other set.

    So-So performance

Written By Bill, Northern VA on Sunday, February 21, 2010

I have had these QC-3 headphones for just over a year now. I fly almost every week. (176 flights last year) I can honestly say that these do not cancel all the background noise. At best they knock it down about 15 db.

They are not the most comfortable out there either. After about an hour my ears are sweating inside the earcups.

They sound just ok. These are not at all hi fidelity. They are about as good as an average pair of ear buds as far as sound quality. They have a very limited amount of dynamic range and the bass is typical Bose poorly defined. After a year the earpads start to shed little black flakes all over yourself. The vinyl flakes make a mess. Save your money and get a good pair of proper fitting earbuds. They block the same amount of background noise and will sound better.

    Fantastic!

Written By Mark, Greenville, SC on Tuesday, July 07, 2009

I purchased the Bose QC3 headphones in 2008 while on a business trip
and have never left home without them since. In fact, my wife has insisted
that we order her a pair for our next international trip. While the
headphones do not drown out every noise on a flight they do make a
significant difference and allow you to actually enjoy the flight (and your
music). I couldn't be happier with this product and look forward to ordering
a second pair for my wife.
