Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the Pioneer AppRadio™

by Zak Billmeier

May 2012: You can download the latest firmware for this receiver on Pioneer's site.

If you've got an iPhone® 4, you know how great apps are — they're fun, handy, and easy to use. Wouldn't it be great if you could transfer that experience to your dash? Thanks to Pioneer's AppRadio, you can.

Control apps from the 6.1" screen
AppRadio works a lot like your iPhone 4. Once you've connected your phone, compatible apps fill AppRadio's screen, giving you convenient touchscreen control. Pioneer's free AppRadio app gives you a sleek app interface, and the apps look great on the bigger screen — best of all, you won't have to fumble around with your iPhone while you're running an app.

More and more apps on the way
AppRadio already works with some of the most popular apps available, such as MotionX GPS Drive, INRIX traffic, Rdio, and PANDORA®. New additions, like StreamS HiFi™ and AUPEO! Personal Radio internet radio apps are available for download. So right out of the box, you can get turn-by-turn directions, traffic updates, and tap into Internet radio. In the future, you can expect many, many more apps to become compatible with AppRadio.

Access your iPhone
AppRadio gives you access to some of your iPhone's key features, such as your calendar, contacts, and your music library. Built-in Bluetooth® lets you talk hands-free.

Important note: AppRadio requires input from your iPhone from time to time — most notably when running the MotionX GPS Drive app. It's a good idea to mount your iPhone where it's easy to reach. Check out our selection of Pro.Fit mounts.

      System Overview

The Pioneer AppRadio: The Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA01) is an innovative car audio system with a 6.1" capacitive touchscreen display that when used along with the unit's Advanced App Mode, facilitates the use of your connected iPhone 4/4S's applications from Pioneer and other providers in the vehicle. In addition to the basic functions, such as AM/FM radio and Bluetooth hands-free phoning, when an iPhone 4/4S is connected you'll have full access to your music, photos, videos, calendars, Google maps, and select iTunes apps.

Apple iPhone 4/4S Compatible: The Pioneer AppRadio is designed specifically for the Apple iPhone 4 (iOS 4.2 or later) / 4S (iOS 5.0 or later) & offers audio playback functions for other select iPod/iPhone models. You cannot connect other USB devices, digital audio players, or smartphones. This unit does not contain a CD player, nor does it have CD-changer port.

AppRadio App (Ver. 1.2.1): The Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA01) requires that you download the latest AppRadio app (version 1.2.1) from the itunes app store onto your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4.

      Display Features

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA01) has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double DIN" or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets.

Note: As always, please consult the Crutchfield Car Selector to verify fit with your vehicle.

6.1" Capacitive Touchscreen Display: The front of the unit features a clean & simple aesthetic look with only three physical buttons (a home button, a volume up button and a volume down button) combined with a high-resolution WVGA (800 x 480) 6.1" capacitive touchscreen display. This capacitive touchscreen requires less pressure, responds faster, and can recognize multiple touch points simultaneously; all advantages when compared to traditional resistive touchscreen displays. Touchscreen control is used for all functions including the app interface, iPod control/playback, AM/FM radio, and Bluetooth hands-free calling features.

Note: All of the AppRadio's controls have been designed specifically for in-vehicle operation to promote a safe driving experience.

Multi-Language Text: The Pioneer AppRadio offers 20 display languages - including English, French, and Spanish.

Display Adjustments: You can adjust the touchscreen display's Dimmer (on/off), Brightness (1-5), and Black Level (1-5).

Demonstration Images: If you do not operate the unit for 30 seconds, demonstration images are displayed. You can turn this function Off.

Screen Off: You can set the time (Off, 10 sec, or 20 sec.) when the screen is blacked out.

Quick Start Mode: The AppRadio features a Quick Start Mode that puts the AppRadio into a reduced power mode for five minutes when the vehicle ignition is switched to Off. While in Quick Start Mode, if you turn the ignition switch On, the AppRadio will immediately start up. If the unit is in Quick Start Mode and the ignition is not switched to On within five minutes, the AppRadio automatically turns itself off.

Note: The unit has a boot-up time of approximately 30 seconds when the unit is powered up (from the Off position). Once the unit is booted-up, you must then launch your iPhone 4/4S's AppRadio app (which takes approximately another 10 seconds).

Parking Brake Interlock: This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be parked with the parking brake engaged.

Rear View Camera: The Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA01) is equipped with a composite video Rear View Camera input. The unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image (Rear View Camera In jack) when an optional rear camera (130NDBC4, sold separately) is installed on your vehicle. When your vehicle's shift lever is in the reverse position, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera (the pink wire in the supplied harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). You can switch between a Normal or Mirror image.

Installation Angle: For optimum playback performance, the unit should be installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

      App Control

Advanced App Mode: When connected to an iPhone 4/4S (using the supplied iPod AV cable) with the Pioneer AppRadio application and compatible third-party apps, the full potential of the AppRadio can be experienced. The Pioneer AppRadio application (version 1.2.1) enables access to the data and connectivity of the iPhone 4/4S. AppRadio allows you to access your iPhone 4's compatible apps, Google Maps, Calendar, and Contacts directly from the Pioneer AppRadio's 6.1" touchscreen. Compatible iPhone 4/4S apps are optimized for use on the AppRadio's 6.1" capacitive touchscreen and all touch, swipe, pinch, and zoom gestures are recognized as if you were directly interacting with your iPhone 4/4S.

Note: To access compatible apps you must have an Apple iPhone 4 (iOS 4.2 or later) / 4S (iOS 5.0 or later) with the latest version of the AppRadio application (ver.1.2.1) from the Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi.

Google Maps: The Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA01) gives you the ability to access Google Maps from your connected iPhone 4/4S. Google Maps appear on the AppRadio screen with the same mapping information and features that you see on your iPhone 4/4S. The system enables you to search, route to locations, view route directions, and create bookmarks with the ability to drop pins directly on the map.

Note: The AppRadio comes supplied with a GPS antenna that features a magnetic base and an attached 12' cable. The antenna screws into the SMB connector on back of the radio and can be mounted on your dash with the included double-sided tape.

Compatible Apps: Pioneer has initially partnered with several app providers to integrate AppRadio compatibility into a few of today's most popular apps, formatted specifically for safe use and access in the vehicle. AppRadio compatible apps are now available, including the following - AUPEO!, DashCommand, INRIX, MotionX-GPS Drive, Rdio, StreamS HiFi, and Pandora Radio (as of June 2011).

Note: You can initially select the app you want from the AppRadio screen, or you can launch the AppRadio app successfully by pressing the HOME hardkey while on a 3rd party app (AppRadio app ver. 1.2.1 only). Once you have selected an app, you will continue control of the selected app via the AppRadio's touchscreen controls or the iPhone 4/4S touchscreen (based on app protocol).

Using the AppRadio, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

      • Entering a Phone Number: You can make a call by entering the phone number using the unit's on-screen keypad (0-9, *, #, +).
      • Phone Book: Your iPhone 4/4S's phone book can be synched to the AppRadio. Up to 1,000 contacts and 4,000 phone numbers can be transferred. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book, you can select the entry and make the call. Phone numbers are listed alphabetically by Contact Name.
      • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory (up to 100 for each call log). You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.

External Microphone: During your wireless phone call, you can talk into the unit's included microphone, and listen to the other party through the vehicle's speaker system. The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than an integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many other in-dash headunits. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip.

Note: This unit is not equipped with an integrated front-panel mic.

      Audio Section

MOSFET50 Internal Amplifier: The AppRadio is equipped with a 50 watts x 4 (peak) MOSFET amplifier for low distortion, high power output. The amplifier is strong enough to power small subwoofers to moderate volume levels in compact cars and pickups. For higher volume levels from subwoofers, an optional amplifier may be connected to the preamp outputs.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the Pioneer AppRadio are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

EEQ (Easy EQ): There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2.

3-Band Parametric EQ: The Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA01) employs a 3-Band Parametric EQ to customize the sound.

      Band Frequency Q-factor Gain
      Bass 60, 80, 100, or 200 Hz 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, or 2.0 -15 to +15 dB
      Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, or 2.5 kHz 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, or 1.25 -15 to +15 dB
      Treble 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5 kHz Fixed -15 to +15 dB

2.0-Volt Preamp Output: The Pioneer AppRadio features one pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs. The unit's preamp output can be configured as a fading rear-channel output or a non-fading subwoofer output with a low-pass filter and output level control.

Subwoofer Control: When configured as the subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the 18dB/octave low pass filter (80, 120, or 160 Hz) and the subwoofer gain (+/-12dB).

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source (iPhone, Hands-Free, Radio) to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Each source can be independently adjusted from -6 dB to +6 dB.

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

      Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA01) features a built-in AM/FM tuner with RDS text information display.

RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): BSM lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under presets 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The AM/FM tuner has 3 FM banks and 2 AM banks. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 12 AM presets.

Direct Tuning: You can enter an AM/FM frequency directly, using the unit's on-screen keypad (0-9).

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception.

      Steering Wheel Remote Control

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit to allow you to keep your vehicle's radio steering wheel remote controls when used with the optional PAC SWI-PS Steering Wheel Control Interface Adapter (127SWIPS, sold separately); or the optional Metra ASWC Steering Wheel Control Interface Adapter (120ASWC, sold separately). This unit allows you to assign functions to your vehicle's steering wheel controls.

      Awful Product

Written By Justin, New York, NY on Thursday, December 20, 2012

Awful Product. Pioneer has completely disappointed with this product. I had the product installed and 6 months later after a "software update" it no longer worked. Then after shipping back to pioneer under warranty they claimed to fix the problem. Low and behold i get the product back and it still does not work. This is a car stereo that requires labor to install and uninstall yet they would not cover the cost of installation. I will not buy another pioneer product after this experience.
      Pros:
it looks cool and for the short period it worked it was handy
      Cons:
everything since they started software updating. and it doesn't work with the new iphone

Outstanding concept ! I would purchase this again if I had not already tried it. Turns out it is a great idea and terrible implementation. The cable that plugs into phone is huge and awkward. The touch screen works ok, but the interface is not even close to that of the iPhone. Not pleased
      Pros:
Great idea. Who needs a cd or dvd player?
      Cons:
It just don't work. Maybe the next generation.

great unit with one HUGE flaw..beware

Written By excelon72, lafayette , nj on Saturday, March 24, 2012

YOu can see i think highly of the unit, but i gave it away as it has one MASSIVE flaw . Pionner must have assumed we all have actual unlimited contracts with flawless reception to not allow us to use Sirius or XM, that is a HUGE flaw in my opinion. i have an unlimited contract and sirius on the phone take up soooo much bandwidth that i ended up getting knocked down big time in speed. No satellite radio is a HUGE flaw it is a really big ball dropping for pioneer. and i had preordered the app radio 2 and im going to cancel that as it seems not to have it either. Seriously how much does it cost to include the ability to have sirius/xm i can get sirius with a 99.00 headunit why not with a 400-600.00 unit . so yes it is such a major flaw that it really should be one star. BAD PIONEER!!!
      Pros:
Beautiful, functional, amazing capabilities. sounds great

      NO SATELLITE RADIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great radio! Easy to use interface. Best car touchscreen I've seen. I don't need a lot of whiz bangs, so this is perfect for me!
      Pros:
      Easy UI. Touch screen responsiveness.
      Cons:
Startup a pain with the warnings etc you have to go through. iPod function should have smooth scrolling like the apps function does. Have to scroll through playlists/songs/artists using up/down arrow instead of just touching/sliding like you are able to do in some of the apps. Should get fixed in an update.

      Garbage Car Receiver from Pioneer

Written By RubenL, Gurabo, PR on Sunday, February 19, 2012

I buy this radio for my Toyota RAV4 2011 that have the space for a double din radio. I am very upset that this radio have problem with boot, it's take about more that a minute to you begin listen music. It do not support using other kind of iPod like classic ones, it only can be used with iPhone and iPod Touch. A Car Receiver the first purpose is to listen to music, other extras are become, but I do not know what happen to pioneer with this radio that do not think about it. Remember iPhone and iPod Touch have limited storage, I have a iPod Classic of 160GB with 18756 songs. I can not believe that with this radio I can not connect my iPod Classic and have my collection excitided me when on the road. Also it do not have a CD player and have so much bugs, for example sometimes you have to go back to main menu and select again iPod to get the title, front cover and time elapsed to appear (sometimes to have to do this two to three times). I am so angry with this radio that prever to buy a JVC KD-R520 (single din) that Cruchfield have on sale including the bluethoot adapter. Take off this peace of garbage and through to the basket. I still wating for my $50.00 refund that is taken very much time, I am believing that Pioneer will not sent it (I do not why, there pass a lot of time since I buy this radio) For all these reason I do not recommend it to nothing, go to others receivers do not buy this one.
      Pros:
My review as you read do not find any pros with this receiver.
      Cons:
Read the review and see all cons that this radio have. Is a garbage, do not waste your money with it, look for other. Do not, do not, do not buy this garbage.

      Returned

Written By Chris, Illinois on Sunday, February 19, 2012
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this unit just about the full 60 days of the Crutchfield eval period, finally returned it. Simply put its a pain in the butt to use, buggy operating system, firmware updates reset everything, boot up takes 30 sec or so if it boots, hooking up your iPhone must be done in the right sequence. The latest firmware update is horrible, the bluetooth sound quality is bad, app selection is minimal. Pioneer makes some good units, just not this one, look at their AVH series which is app friendly and user friendly.
      Pros:
      None
      Cons:
Operating system Minimal apps Difficult to use Too many warning screens

      Works for me

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The App Radio went into my 2010 Challenger with only the normal issues. Had to cut off some tabs inside the dash that kept the double din from fitting. The GPS module is under the dash in the middle optional speaker location. The Mic cord is off the visor. I wired the parking brake to simple switch on the dash and it works great, it just needs to be grounded, when the unit prompts. Reverse camera works as designed. The App Radio is the source for a 600w amp and JL Stealthbox. Turn-by-T Navigation works with Pandora. About $2000 for everything.
      Pros:
Pandora sounds great, drives my stock speakers well, clear display.
      Cons:
No iphone rest, the Iphone cable is big but it tucks in my console. (i'm not using an extender)

      AppRadio, Quirky but good value

Written By TWC, Boston,MA on Thursday, February 02, 2012
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very "first generation", but does most everything I wanted it to do,GPS, Bluetooth phone, good sound.
      Pros:
Charges the iPhone, great GPS apps available for minimal cost, great for Pandora listeners.
      Cons:
The phone is quirky, by the time you hear people talking on the other end, they have already said hello, for some reason there seems to be a delay when you start a call. I could be doing something wrong? Also when you turn the vehicle off you loose your call.

I had the unit installed by a professional. I like the unit, and everything pretty much works as advertised. Sound quality for the music apps is good. Personally the only problem I've encountered is that the (regular), radio reception is not good, unless I'm in Manhattan.
      Pros:
Cool factor, clean and neat. nice touch screen.
      Cons:
I think it could be a little cheaper being that over 50% of its functions are brought to it by the user.

Does just what it says, which is a lot.

Installed in a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The last head unit I bought for my car was rife with features I never used -- AUX IN on the front panel, removable faceplate, adjustable subwoofer volume, you name it. It was also a beast to use with only two knobs and a handful of buttons. It's hard to believe that I kept the thing as long as I did.

When I decided to get the Pioneer App Radio, I was inside an inquiry for my life in general that I call "Less Is More." I tried to examine what I really thought I was important and get rid of everything else. So I was betting on not missing the above features or the CD player. But to be honest, I thought if it wasn't quite what it was cracked up to be that I could live with that.

I have to say that this deck really exceeded my expectations. It does have the occasional quirk, and it takes quite a while to start up, but the UI is easy to navigate and the iPhone integration is very well done. Everyone comments on how fetching it looks, and I use the GPS integration constantly. The mic for the bluetooth connection is a bit on the quiet side, but that's my only real complaint.

I would highly recommend this deck to iPhone enthusiasts; you won't be sorry you purchased this.
      Pros:
      * large, bright screen * decent app integration (Motion-X GPS especially) * video out (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) to the screen * highly configurable EQ * easy-to-use UI
      Cons:
      * long startup time * quiet bluetooth microphone (mine is located on my visor) * occasional startup glitches (need to kill the engine and restart to reboot)

If your iPhone is your world you will love it

Written By Scott, Wisconsin on Thursday, December 29, 2011

OK, you have to know what you are getting into with this one. If you use your iPhone for everything this is the unit for you, it acts as an extension of your phone. If you want to play cd's (what are those?) or plug in other devices this is not for you. Its not meant to add a bunch of amps there's only one set of pre outs for a sub. But for what I was looking for, a way to hook up my phone and play music, nav, pandora, etc, all while charging and Bluetooth for making calls, it's perfect. Hooked it up to a rear view camera and works with no problems. Mounted the phone via a proclip next to the head unit and it makes a perfect set up. It will only get better as the software continually gets updated. To top it off it makes my stock speakers sound better!
      Pros:
Great display, features, charges my iPhone, excellent nav for a whopping $0.99, Pandora, works great with my backup camera. Straight forward installation.
      Cons:
Bluetooth phone connectivity is sketchy. Switching between apps takes getting used to, parking brake activation to use certain features is a pain.

      Do not buy

Written By Garet, Atkinson, NH on Thursday, December 01, 2011
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Loved the concept. After finally determining something was wrong with the unit (this is after being transferred back and forth between the Pioneer's warrant and support departments several times) and being told to use the reset button to solve all the problems with the unit, I was then informed just to ship it back - no RMA number, no support number, no reference number - the only tracking method is the shipping companies tracking number. Pioneer's support / warranty departments encounters were unhelpful, had poor attitudes and at times seemed to be anti-customer. It would seem to me that a firmware upgrade that was available for a couple of months would have been easy to communicate to a customer but instead I left with my encounter with Pioneer wondering exactly what they were doing in trying to win customers over.

After having to research the issue myself I found out that Pioneer provided a firmware upgrade from it's website. I downloaded the firmware and followed the instructions and upgraded the AppRadio. The problems with the AppRadio - lockups, issues with the clock running ahead by at least 6 - 10 minutes a month and some other bugs were fixed. In addition sound quality improved and a couple features were added as well.

For the upgrade you'll need a micro HD drive (the ones you use for cameras to expand the number of pictures you take and not the USB drives you can use on computers). Note to Pioneer - recommend design change on this; I believe if you contact Pioneer they may provide the upgrade on the micro-HD drive - but I'm not sure on this and I hope you encounter a better experience than I did. Also, the firmware that you download is compressed, you'll need to uncompress it and then copy it to the micro-HD drive. The intructions that Pioneer provides are fairly good. There's one fuzzy part that for a novice and non-computer literate person may confuse and may challenge but the firmware upgrade solved all my ills.

As another note for Pioneer this is a big plus for AppRadio, you really should plug this as a big feature as well.
      Pros:
      Great idea, poor engineering
      Cons:
At 20 degrees large cable doesn't bend easily, shouting at the mic isn't a lot a fun, constant locking up at inappropriate times, clock ran fast every month 6-8 minutes/month, lousy support from Pioneer with bad attitudes

great radio to get if you don't use CDs or DVDs anymore. Stream video and music straight from your iPhone.
      Pros:
Seamless integration with my iPhone4. great app integration
      Cons:
Must have bypass to enjoy it. If you don't get the bypass, it will drive you insane!! Microphone on the phone system is not great. No way to get out of Pandora and a couple of other apps unless you shut down on phone.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great radio and does exactly what Crutchfield and Pioneer says it does.

Positive: The equalizer works well with dialing in the precise sound you are looking for in your vehicle, and the selectable RCA outputs are very handy if you have a factory sound system or subwoofer system . I see other reviews that talk about the trouble with the bluetooth feature, but i placed the mic on the side of my steering column of my truck, and everyone says they can hear me fine. All of the apps on the radio work very well with the iPhone. The GPS extender seems to work well with the iPhone maps and MotionX.

Negitive: Like everyone else, i feel that the cord that connects to the iPhone is unnecessarily bulky. This can be solved with a cord extension. Overall, this radio has great potential if Pioneer will hold true to their word and produce more apps (such as Rapsody) and updates. And for those of you wanting to know, it WILL play Rapsody. Hope this is helpful!

Crutchfield support has been great! I had to have the unit replaced and they sent it the next day without a hitch.

      Appradio

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I took my time and did the instalation in my 2007 Ford Ranger in 3 hours. It fits fine and looks great with the large screen filling the dash. I was a little disappointed with the interface between the appradio and my IPhone 4 you have to switch back and forth between the radio and the phone to change apps and keep re-launching the appradio app. If you look at the radio as a screen to view some of your IPhone apps and most video then you wont be dissapointed, once you have the apps running on the radio they work well. Some of the screens looks could be improved with a software update and the interface cord could be less bulky. It is a great concept, I hope they iron out the proplems. Maybe I am just spoiled by how easy the Apple products are to use and its frustrating when it is not so intuitive. Apple should make their own media center for auto use!, I would buy one even if it cost twice as much.
