Features

Overview: The Canon EF100mm f/2.8L IS USM lens is an L-series mid-telephoto macro lens for Canon EOS cameras. The lens features the new Hybrid Image Stabilizer (IS) and an Ultrasonic Motor (USM). The lens includes the LP1219 Lens Case and the ET-73 Lens Hood.

Normal and Close-up Photography: The lens can be used as a medium telephoto lens for normal photography such as portraits. Close-up photos up to 1x (life-size) magnification are possible. The minimum focusing distance from the subject to the focal plane is approximately 12". The working distance from the front of the lens to the subject is about 5.5"

Ultrasonic Motor (USM): The EF 100mm lens is equipped with an Ultrasonic Motor (USM) for silent, high-speed auto focusing.

Hybrid Image Stabilizer (IS): The lens is equipped with Canon's new Hybrid Image Stabilization technology. Hybrid IS effectively compensates for both angular and shift camera shake during close-up shooting. The Image Stabilizer provides the effect of having a shutter speed about 4 stops faster during normal shooting. You can turn the Image Stabilizer on or off using the switch on the barrel of the lens.

Focusing Ring: Regardless of whether you're in manual or auto focus mode, the focusing ring always works. This means you can auto focus on a subject, but manually change the focus by turning the focusing ring.

Focus Mode Switch: You can switch between Auto Focus and Manual Focus using the two-way AF/MF switch on the barrel of the lens.

Focus Range Switch: The range switch lets you set the focusing range to one of three settings: Full (1.0' to infinity), 1.0' to 1.6', or 1.6' to infinity, depending on shooting conditions. The setting can reduce the overall auto focusing time.

Lens Hood: The lens kit includes the ET-73 lens hood to keep unwanted light out of the lens, and protects the front of the lens. The hood can be reverse-mounted on the lens for storage. When installed, the hood adds approximately 3" to the overall length and 9/16" to the overall diameter of the lens.

Optional Tripod Mount: The optional tripod mount (Tripod Mount Ring D) allows you to quickly switch the camera between landscape and portrait positions while it is mounted on a tripod.

Optional Filters: The EF 100mm lens has a 67mm mounting thread on the front of lens for attaching screw-on type filters.
