Features
Overview: The iW1 is NHT's most affordable high performance in-wall
speaker. The NHT iW1 is useful in almost any distributed sound application, from home music, home theater,
office, or commercial installations. It is suitable for use in the wall for your
bedroom, hallway, entry way, waiting room, and other secondary rooms where high
quality sound is desired.
Note: The iW1 in-wall speaker has similar dispersion to a typical
bookshelf design, so therefore works best when placed in rooms where the
listeners are centrally positioned or aimed into the center of the room.
2-Way Coaxial Design: The NHT iW1 is a very high quality 2-way system,
employing a 6.5" long-thow polypropylene woofer with rubber surround and a coaxially mounted 1" silk soft-dome tweeter, managed by a very high quality 2nd order crossover network (2.4kHz,
18dB/oct high-pass, 12dB/oct low-pass).
Moisture Resistant: The driver units are moisture resistant
and all the hardware is stainless steel. The frame is polypropylene, and the
mounting lip and baffle utilize a foam gasket. This allows the speaker to be
used in your bathroom.
Note: Installation in outdoor locations or moisture-prone interior
environments, such as indoor swimming pools or saunas is not recommended.
Non-Resonance Baffle: The baffle features a gasket around the edge and
rests on six butyl rubber pads to help isolate it from the wall and frame, in
order to prevent resonance.
Spring Clip Terminals: The in-wall speaker features
gold-plated, spring-clip terminals which will maintain contact with the
speaker wire over the life of the installation.
Note: 16-AWG, 2-conductor in-wall speaker wire is recommended for
runs of 10 feet or less, with heavier gauge cable used for longer runs.
Installation
3-Piece Modular Design: The NHT iW1 features a 3-piece, modular design
that includes a separate bezel (frame), baffle (speaker plate), and grille. In
fact, NHT has designed the iW1, 2, and 3 in-wall speakers so you can easily
upgrade or replace each model without ever removing the frame from the wall.
Dog-Ear Clamping System: The NHT iW1 in-wall
speaker has a fail-proof, 6-point spring-loaded, dog ear clamping system that
grabs the wall's surface with integrity and simplicity, even when the mounting
surface is uneven. The spring-loaded clamps maintain the bezel's pressure and
seal with the wall surface and therefore eliminates the speaker from coming
loose and paint lines from cracking over the life of the installation. This
feature is important because typical sheetrock compresses when clamped;
non-spring loaded, rigid clamping systems will become loose over time and begin
to vibrate and the air seal can leak causing the speaker to lose bass and crack
the paint line.
Note: NHT in-wall loudspeakers are designed for in-wall
installation between standard 2" x 4" wood studs. The six spring-loaded dog ear clamps can accommodate walls
0.25" to 1.5" thick.
Horizontal/Vertical Mounting: Because of its coaxial layout, the iW1 in-wall speaker can be mounted in the
wall either horizontally or vertically.
Cut-Out Template: A convenient
cardboard template for the in-wall speaker's cutout is included to make
installation location and retrofit cutting easier.
Paintable: The iW1 is painted with a neutral white primer and may be
painted to match your wall decor with typical latex paints. When painting, the grille
and speaker frame is painted separately. A convenient paint shield is
included to protect the drive units in the speaker frame.
Note: Do not attempt to paint the black baffle surface (which
houses the drivers). Its black finish prevents the speaker's black drivers
from being visible once the grille is attached.
New Construction Bracket (optional): For new construction,
NHT makes the IWB (228IWB, sold separately); a new construction framing bracket
which lets you accurately place the iW1 in-wall speakers location during the framing
stages of construction. The iWB provides a
lip that the sheetrock or wall finishing crew uses to mount the NHT iW1, once
the wall is up.
Note: The iWB is not required for retrofit installations in
existing walls.
