About the Sony Xplod CDXGT650UI

Some people like things perfect. Sony's CDX-GT650UI CD receiver lets you set things up just right with an outstanding combination of sound controls and customizable display features.

Shape the sound
Sony really put a strong emphasis on sound quality in this receiver. An updated amplifier and redesigned power supply deliver cleaner sound with more low-frequency punch, while its high-quality digital-to-analog converter gives you outstanding CD playback.

Sony's Advanced Sound Engine gives you some powerful sonic tools. The EQ7 equalizer offers seven adjustable frequency bands, with eight easy-to-use presets, so you can compensate for your car's acoustics. Listening Position uses signal processing to set up a perfect stereo sweet spot wherever you want it in the car. And DM+ Advanced circuitry restores the details lost when music files are compressed, so you enjoy the best possible sound from your iPod® or thumb drive.

Shape the look
Sony's Dynamic Color Illuminator offers 12 preset colors or over 15,000 customizable color choices, so you can set the receiver's screen and button illumination to match your vehicle's lighting scheme — or your own personal style. You can even choose colors for day and night display, or colors that synchronize to your music.

Plays your media
Your media library is covered with the '650. It plays MP3, WMA, and AAC files on disc, and features convenient front panel USB and auxiliary inputs for your portables. Plus, you can connect and control your iPod® without having to buy an optional adapter. Sony includes special SensMe software that lets your organize your music into playlists that match your mood, scene, or location.

Ready for system building
You'll find three sets of preamp outputs for adding external amplifiers or a powered subwoofer. Got a powered sub? You can use the built-in filters to remove low bass from your speakers, so the receiver's built-in amp can do a better job of keeping up with your sub.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Sony stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Sony, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

CEA2006 Compliant Amplifier: The power specifications for the Sony Xplod CDX-GT650UI are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the CDX-GT650UI are as follows:

    • Continuous Power Output: 17 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Peak Power Output: 52 watts x 4-channels (208 total watts)

Three Pairs Of 2V Preamp Outputs: The CDX-GT650UI contains three pairs of 2-volt RCA preamp outputs - a front channel pair, rear channel pair, and subwoofer channel pair. The front and rear channel preamp outputs can be faded. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the high-pass crossover. You can adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments. In addition, you can select the phase of the subwoofer output from Normal or Reverse.

High-Pass Filter: The front and rear speaker outputs offer a selectable high-pass crossover frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the high-pass crossover.

    • EQ7: You can select an equalizer curve from eight music types - Xplod, Vocal, Edge, Cruise, Space, Gravity, Custom, or Off (Flat). The Custom EQ7 mode allows  you to make  your own equalizer settings. You can adjust the level (+/-6dB) of seven different frequency bands - Band1 (63Hz), Band2 (160Hz), Band3 (400Hz), Band4 (1kHz), Band5 (2.5khz), Band6 (6.3khz), and Band7 (16.0kHz).
    • Listening Position: This unit can change the localization of sound by delaying the sound output from each speaker to suit your position, and simulate a natural sound field with the feeling of being in the center of it wherever you sit in the car. You can choose from Front Right, Front Left, Front Center, or Off. You can also set the subwoofer distance of the subwoofer to Near, Normal, or Far. In addition, you can fine-tune the listening position setting by +/-3.
    • RBE (Rear Bass Enhancer): RBE enhances the bass sound by applying the low-pass filter setting to the rear speakers. This function allows the rear speakers to work as a subwoofer even if there is no subwoofer connected.
    • Dynamic Loudness: Dynamic Loudness refers to compensating for volume level and signal gain.
    • DM+ Advanced: DM+ Advanced improves digitally compressed sound by restoring high frequencies lost in the compression process (works only for USB).
