Features

Overview: The Bose SoundDock is a powered desktop speaker system with two 2.5" full range drivers, designed specifically for the Apple iPod digital music player. The iPod is docked directly to the unit, allowing you to easily play your music files.

iPod Adapters: The SoundDock features a slot in the front of the unit with the proprietary iPod dock connector. There are three iPod adapters from which to choose, allowing you to fit your particular iPod model into the docking slot. The SoundDock works with any iPod with a Dock connector, including the 10GB, 15GB, 20GB, 30GB, and 40GB "Touch Wheel" iPods, the 4th generation "Click Wheel" iPods, the 5th generation 30GB and 60GB "Click Wheel" iPods, the iPod Mini, the 30GB and 40GB iPod Photo models, iPod Nano models (1st, 2nd and 3rd generation), iPod classic, and iPod touch. An adapter for the 60GB iPod Photo is currently available from www.bose.com at no charge.

Note: The SoundDock is not iPhone certified.

Controls: The only controls on the speaker system are for volume, up and down. A wireless remote control is also included which offers basic iPod controls; volume up/down, skip forward/backward, search forward/backward within the song, play/pause, and off. The controls on the iPod also work while connected to he SoundDock. The SoundDock will return to the last volume setting used when turned on. Note: The SoundDock volume controls must be used because the iPod's volume control only affects the headphone output.

Input: The SoundDock has only the iPod dock connector, so it can't be used with any iPod without the dock connector or with any other brand portable player.

Power Supply: The unit is powered by the supplied AC adapter only. It does not operate on battery power. The SoundDock provides power to charge your iPod even if the speaker system is off.

Note: The SoundDock will not charge the iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPod nano (4th generation)

Headphones: The headphone output on the iPod is independent of the Dock connector so both the SoundDock and headphones can be used simultaneously, with independent volume control.

Non-Slip Feet: The bottom of the SoundDock features six surface-gripping rubber pads to provide a stable platform on most surfaces.

I felt this Bose product was too expensive despite its good performance. It was therefore a pleasant surprise to find out on your website that the price had gone down to a more reasonable amount. So now I own one and I'm enjoying the room filling sound that this amazing device can produce. I wish that its power transformer is smaller and easier to hide though.

I LOVE MY BOSE

I received my dock for a birthday present from my husband. The music from my ipod mini sounds wonderful on the dock and so does the music from my husband's ipod classic. It is small and attractive and looks good on any piece of furniture in any room. I don't really care for the huge cord attachment and wish it had a small handle to make it eaiser to carry from room to room. The clarity and sound on the dock is wonderful though and will fill an entire room and more. I also have the bose headphones which really sounds nice when hooked up to the dock.

Great sound!

I bought the sound dock for my kitchen and the sound is unbelievable. Everyone who walks in the kitchen can't believe how great it sounds. I bought a similar product from Sony which is now in my bathroom because the sound is terrible. My only complaint is the size of the cord and the transformer box that is attached to it. It's very hard to discreetly hide the transformer and cord on a kitchen counter top. Otherwise this is a good looking product with amazing sound..

Bose SoundDock = FANTASTIC!

I must admit, that with a few of the slightly negative reviews out there, I was a little hesitant in purchasing a SoundDock. But I have been a long time believer in Bose products. I do not have many, but most of my family has Bose home theater products, speakers, headphones, etc. They all sound great. So I put my faith in the Bose product and will say with 100% certainty, I made a great choice!

First off, a bit of a disclaimer. I was not looking for a music system to play music during parties or for entertaining. I only wanted a device to play music in my office, bedroom, or sunroom. I really got the SoundDock for use in my home office. It is PERFECT for this. If you are looking for something that plays loud, thumping music, you should probably get the Bose home theater speakers and coordinate with your CD/MP3 player.

The SoundDock is a very attractive system that is very compact and fits nicely on any bookshelf or desk. It has a GREAT sound and sounds great listening to everything from podcasts to hard rock to smooth jazz or R&B.

My only gripe with the SoundDock is the remote control. Specifically what you can and cannot control. It will only allow you to do basic functions such as volume up/down, next track, fast forward/rewind, and power off. In order to select playlists, podcasts, albums, etc., you have to do that on the iPod itself. The SoundDock would be even better if the remote would allow you to navigate the iPods menu functions.

I love the SoundDock so much, I plan on purchasing another one for our sunroom/bedroom, or I might even put it in my office at work.

this thing is just like all of the bose products. it sounds bad theres alot of distortion when your turn it up. there is alot of bass but it is of poor quality.

Good sound - for the average Joe

Well for sometime now I have been studying several ipod systems and was real undecided on which would best fit my taste. I like Bose products but have some postive and negative opinions about there stuff. Bottom line is that I want what sounds good no matter who makes it. I have a pair of Bose triport headphones and love them.
I heard the Bose SoundDock before I purchased one and I can say the best advice is to take your own ipod and listen to music that you know before making a decision on a dock. Once out of the box the SoundDock is nice looking and dose put out some room filling volume. As far as sound quality, Bose SoundDock, not so much.
The SoundDock is lacking upper treble (could easily be solved if Bose would use tweeters in more of their stuff) and this unit dose pack some decent midbass but no lower bass is evident (but hey look at its size). The midrange is in my opinion a little overbearing but I think this is were the unit gets its volume.
The price on this unit is a little excessive considering what you are getting as well. There are no input/output jacks and there is no way to adjust the bass or treble. I tried adjusting the eq on my ipod and immediatly noticed distortion. Another down fall is that this unit is in no way portable and the plug that came with this unit has a huge power pack.
I can honestly say that I would have kept the SoundDock if the sound quality, and some features were there but there not. I have been obsessed with sound quality for the last 10 years and several faimly members of mine are the same way. I know what sounds good and what dosent. For the same price of the Bose there is alot more out

I knew i was getting something decent since it was made by Bose and this didn't fail to please me. Great sound for our living room and dining room and the clarity and volume was surprising for such a small system though obviously it won't compare to a larger sound system. Where we have it, though, it fits right in.

The only cons I have are that it should have an extra audio input for other devices besides Ipods and that it is expensive. This high pricing by Bose will definitely keep me from purchasing one of their larger systems to compliment my big screen tv.

This unit is an absolute gem. The sound quality is amazing as you can hear the highs and lows with clarity. The volume will easily fill a large room. Sure, this unit is more expensive than the competition. However, in my opinion, the Bose sounds best.

Excellent sound with only one drawback

I agree with the other reviewers. Very nice sound. Only drawback that I see is the "brick" transformer in the power cord that is almost as heavy as the unit itself and makes the unit a little difficult to move from place to place; and it is an ugly feature of an otherwise sharp looking setup. I love the sound quality so I'm pleased to have the unit.

Sound is very important to me as I have always owned audiophile quality sound systems. To my ears there are better products out there for less money. When I listened to this unit I was very dissapointed. For $300 I expected better sound. If all you want is some background music then this is OK. If your serious about sound quality look elsewhere.

over rated and over priced

Pros:

Size. Fairly small and portable. Solid weight to it, won't get knocked off wherever you decide to put it.

Cons:

Sound. Ok at best, taking into account what you are buying. You know you are getting small speakers
arranged close together, so you shouldn't expect high quality, room filling sound. Works ok in small rooms, and that is about it. Does that sound like you are getting your $300 worth? For what it can be used for, this unit should be priced @ around $200 tops, and that is being generous.

Versatility. The unit was made specifically for the iPod, so that is all you can use it with. No outputs/inputs to use with a PC or home stereo system.

Neutral:

Build quality. It might be ok, but I wasn't sold on it. The weight of the unit would make it bow if not supported, such as when you are carrying it. One fall and it is probably toast.

Conclusion:

The ability to have a remote and being able to charge your iPod are standard features on just about every speaker system available for the iPod, hardly making this unit stand out.

If you just need something to put next to the bed on the nightstand and have money to blow, buy this. I believe this unit has a market out there for what it offers, unfortuantely it comes terribly over priced

not the cheapest, but best value

i've had my SoundDock for about 9 months now. it's excellent. i have a big apartment, but got it for the dining room. but it has replaced my stereo! the sound is so much bigger than the unit. very simple to operate, clean design, and clean sound. it's one of the things (like my iPod) that i have no regrets about having purchased.

details: my dining room is about 12'x16'. and the sound is so rich even with this size room. the shelf that the SoundDock is placed on is just below table height. i frequently must turn the volume down, and still the sound registers well, both treble and even base. i use my EQ on the iPod to adjust for type of music, and if i am using the Bose. 2) the remote control works from a distance of 30' away without any problem; 3) entertaining in the living room, i direct the SoundDock toward the room, and while it doesn't fill the room with rich sound, it works for background music.

if you can manage it's price (i don't think i've ever seen a sale or price reduction), i don't think you'll regret purchasing the Bose SoundDock.

I initially bought a Logic3 I-Station (which was probably better value for the money) but it just wasn't good enough. I also tried the DLO I-Boom (horrible) and the Altec Lansing (too hollow, would rate it worse than the Logic3) but the Bose blew all these away.

...in the upcoming Ipod station/speaker market, they (Bose) definitely have the best product right now.

The only reason I didn't give this product 5 stars is the excessive price. But, it's a Bose and Bose = expensive. Fortunately their rep for high quality audio equipment is earned in this great little external iPod speaker/s. I expected it to sound great. That's why I bit the bullet and coughed up the $300. I was NOT disappointed!! If you can justify spending the money, this product will only add to the joy that is the iPod!!!

I have used the Bose SoundDock throughout my house and even outside on my patio with excellent results. The sound quality is fantastic...Its easy to use, compact and would recommend the Bose to anyone who needs portable sound from their iPod. One thing, dont be fooled by its small size, it has plenty of volume and I was pleasantly surprised.

The best solution yet

The Bose SoundDock is a great sounding speaker system for the iPod. It puts out a very big sound- clean bass and treble with the midranges bunched up and a bit soupy- but to me, that's typical of Bose's sound.
Easy to use- just put the pod into the center-placed dock, program your music and enjoy.
The dock itself is a shallow tray with an indented lip that pops out to accomodate the photo iPod's deeper dimensions...other iPods use the original fitted tray. Other than that (it threw me the first time I used it) it's plug&play.
Two things sort of bother me- one is that the Bose design mirrors the fragility of the iPod. I pretty much have decided not to travel with it. The other is that it's a bit pricey- but in this case, you get your money's worth.
