Sony

Our take on the Sony XAR800C

by Ken Nail

No more inching back out of a shopping center parking space while you check for pedestrians. Put your car in reverse, and this XAR800C rear-view camera will display what's behind you on the screen of your Sony video receiver. The camera offers an extremely wide view of what's behind you and off to each side — a big plus when you're backing out of a driveway with a limited view. This camera is compatible with Sony video receivers with a rear-camera input.

    backup camera

Written By Travis, Baton Rouge, LA on Monday, April 29, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

camera functions correctly, image quality is good
    Pros:
    great image
    Cons:
Cable from the power supply to the camera is too short for bigger trucks and suvs. the power supply is designed to mount outside of the dash. On my long wheel base ford f-250 super cab I had to cut and add additional multi-conductor wire to even get it to an area under the back seat. I cut the wire and soldered all the connections and covered with heat shrink and it did work fine with no perceivable interference.

    Colonel Bob

Written By Colonel Bob, Palm Springs, CAW on Friday, February 25, 2011

Have the rear view camera connected to my Sony XNV-770BT A/V Receiver. Becoming accustomed the rear view camera takes some time. View is clear, day and night. Objects appear much farther away than they really are. Also, NOWHERE, be it in the Sony manual for the XNV-770BT or on- line Sony support, is there an explanation of the 3 horizontal lines on the viewing screen. Options allow colors of red, white, and blue, adjustment of the vertical positions of each of the lines as well as the length of each line. No explanation of what they're used for, much less how to do so. Mystery to me and my installer.
