Our take on the Boom Mat 4"x6" Speaker Baffles

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Features

Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

I drive a 1993 Jeep wrangler, and purchased some 4x6 speakers to replace the factory speakers in the dash, which have been disconnected and rotting for as long as I can remember. I usually don't put the windows on, and even if I do, water will still get back behind the dash. So I picked these up to protect the new speakers.

I haven't installed them yet, but upon inspection, I believe that these will be perfect for my application. They will create a water tight seal. I also will not be cutting a hole in them, as I will have a high pass on these little speakers at about 500hz.
Pros:
Will make water tight seal. I won't see them after I get them installed.
Cons:
Merely made of foam, not some fancy rubber?
