Great update

This is a excellent upgrade, i should have purchased it sooner. Amazon.com has it for the same price. However, i purchased the upgrade from Crutch Field because of Crutch Fields technical support. The installation of this software does take some fine tuning. as far as the my Pioneer systems perks, etc. and it was nice to have the Crutch Field Tech support people help with troubleshooting this matter...

This upgrade includes new maps a new base CE image and a fimware upgrade for the Bluetooth module.

If you already have the 3.0 firmware this update is nice to have but not necessary. There are some minor preformance improvments but nothing overly impresive like going from 2.0 to 3.0.

If you dont have the 3.0 this is very much worth it. The preformance improvments, lane indicator on the gps, the heads up 3D, and massive point of intrest database update is worth every penny. This box contains two sd cards A is the 3.0 firmware upgrade, Card B is the 4.0 upgrade and bluetooth update.

I studied this installation instructions thoroughly after reading reviews that mentioned issues with the instructions about the installation process being somewhat difficult. I even went so far as contacting Pioneer to review the procedure. They were helpful and installation went well.

not perfect, but worth the investment

Written By DuaneD, Apex, NC on Friday, March 11, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an F700bt. Before this update, the touchscreen was a pain and the NAV
screen was very hard to read (v1 and v2 firmwares)

This update with v3 (or maybe even v4?) firmware is MUCH better. The
touchscreen works like I'd expect and the NAV display has been updated with
larger, cleaner fonts and high-contrast backgrounds for the text boxes. It
literally is like a new unit.

Map updates are great. Roads seem to display in higher res, the new 2D
always-up view has finally been added, and now highway signs pop up before every
exit so you know which lane to be in.

The update did not come with instructions. I had to do some searching online to
find the process for my (older) unit. First, I downloaded the "testmode" hack
off the AVIC411 forum to back up my current firmware/maps to a blank SD card.
Then, I rebooted and ran the first SD card. You have to do a little trick to
get the device number (which I have now forgotten) but then after the update
it's available in the system info menu. On the first pass, I had a bit of a
weird screen as I think it was updating the WinCE OS. This errored several
times, I clicked "retry" and then it proceeded, eventually finishing. After a
reboot, it came up with the more familiar update screen and loaded everything
again. There was some glitchy operation the first few days, but after it
finished being moody it's been fine since.

Not worth the money

Written By Brandon, San Antonio, TX on Tuesday, February 08, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The firmware was supposed to add new features, however there is nothing I can see different. The maps do not show the changes of a major loop around San Antonio that was completed in late 2008. This was a real waste of money. Pioneer should not be charging soo much for updates when they are not even taking the time to update changes to a road from 2 years before.

Super Easy once I figured it out!

I have a Pioneer AVIC-F7010BT. I looked several places online for the exact instructions
for upgrading my model and then called pioneer support. Just in case, you put the A SD
card in, write down the Device number. Go online pioneerelectronics.com and activate
your upgrade - they give you a password that you have to input into the nav screen. With
B card in, input your password and proceed with upgrade. As far as I could tell, these
instructions were not spelled out in any manuals - believe me there are plenty. However,
it didn't take to long to figure this out. The upgrade happened faster than 40 minutes and
I could't be happier except I have to enter in all my info again (home, favorites, etc). So,
write those down before hand.

although the upgrade helped in speeding up some of the response time on commands it did verry litle els and now my unit freezes for up to 3-4 miniuts at a time and wont respond to my sd card or any buttons that i press go figure, this much for something pioneer should supply as a fix for the firmware problems free of charge, not worth the money

Pioneer CNSD-200FM

Written By Wheels, Minneapolis, MN on Monday, November 01, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The update card worked as it is supposed to on my AVIC-F900BT. Somewhat technical to get everything uploaded and setup, but if you can follow instructions step-by-step you'll be fine...takes around 45-50 minutes for everything.
