Features
Overview: The NHT iC4
in-ceiling speaker features an all aluminum version of NHT's patented
3-tweeter array that produces a flat frequency response up to 60°
off-axis and creates a consistent sound-field. The iC4 is recommended for the
most critical fixed-installation and distributed sound applications in your
home, office or in commercial installations. It is suitable for the highest
performance home theaters, high end stereo system, dens, dining rooms, master
bedrooms, patios where high quality sound is desired.
2-Way Coaxial/3-Tweeter Array: The NHT iC4 in-ceiling speaker is a
very high quality 2-way system; employing an 8" long-throw, anodized
aluminum woofer and
coaxially mounted tweeter array, which consists of three 1" fluid-cooled
aluminum dome tweeters.
Crossover Network: The drivers are managed by a very high quality 2nd
order crossover network (1.6kHz, 18dB/oct HP, 6dB/oct LP).
Diffuser: A proprietary diffuser is also included for inside
the grille center, which provides a smooth response when a listener is located
directly under the speaker.
Moisture Resistant: The driver units are moisture resistant,
the frame is polypropylene, all the hardware is stainless steel, and the
mounting lip has a foam gasket. This allows the in-ceiling speaker to be
installed in moisture prone interior environments, such as bathrooms, indoor
swimming pools, and sauna rooms.
Note: Installation in outdoor locations is not recommended.
Spring Post Terminals: The in-ceiling speaker features
gold-plated, spring-post terminals which will maintain contact with the speaker
wire over the life of the installation.
Note: 16-AWG, 2-conductor in-ceiling speaker wire is
recommended for runs of 10 feet or less, with heavier gauge cable used for
longer runs.
Installation
Dog-Ear Clamping System: The NHT iC4 in-ceiling speaker has
a fail-proof, 4-point spring-loaded, dog ear clamping system that grabs the
ceiling's surface with integrity and simplicity, even when the mounting surface
is uneven. The spring-loaded clamps maintain the bezel's pressure and seal with
the ceiling surface and therefore eliminates the speaker from coming loose and
paint lines from cracking over the life of the installation. This feature is
important because typical sheetrock compresses when clamped; non-spring loaded,
rigid clamping systems will become loose over time and begin to vibrate and the
air seal can leak causing the speaker to lose bass and crack the paint line.
Note: NHT in-ceiling loudspeakers are designed for
in-ceiling installation between standard wood joists. The four
spring-loaded dog ear clamps can accommodate ceilings 0.25" to 1.5" thick.
Cut-Out Template: A convenient cardboard template for the
in-ceiling speaker's cutout is included to make installation location and
retrofit cutting easier.
Paintable: The iC4 is painted with a neutral white primer
and may be painted to match your ceiling decor with typical latex paints. A convenient
paint
shield is included to protect the drive units in the speaker frame. Take care
not to cover the grille's tiny perforated holes, which are essential to sound
performance.
Note: Do not attempt to paint the black baffle surface
(which houses the drivers). Its black finish prevents the speaker's black
drivers from being visible once the grille is attached.
New Construction Bracket (optional): For new construction,
NHT makes the ICB8 (228ICB8, sold separately); a new construction framing
bracket which lets you accurately place the iC4 in-ceiling speakers location
during the framing stages of construction much like a recessed lighting fixture.
The iCB8 provides a lip that the sheetrock or wall finishing crew uses to mount
the NHT iC4, once the ceiling is installed.
Note: The iCB8 is not required for retrofit
installations in existing ceilings.
